Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

I'm going to see Metallica tonight

Spoiler - 10-18-2009 at 10:52 AM

I've decided to go see them one last time. This is the band that got me into thrash metal when I first heard them around 1985.
So I think it will be worth it just to see them play songs like Trapped Under Ice,Creeping death,Fade to Black or Damage Inc.
I've been looking at www.setlist.fm , and they've been playing a lot of the older stuff...from the Black album back and a few of the new songs. They have been changing the setlist every show as far as the old songs go.
I have pretty good seats,Row A on the second level, so nobody will be in front of me headbanging.
It should be worth the price of admission alone just to watch the old 80's hair metal dudes and chicks rockin out with their mullets and leather jackets.

I'm expecting to get a lot of negative comments from most of yous....so go ahead...let me have it.The line starts to the left.

The stage set up looks badass.

DaveMoral - 10-18-2009 at 11:31 AM

Hope you have a good time.

necrobutcher - 10-18-2009 at 12:50 PM

As much as I hate Metallica, I hope you enjoy yourself.

clevohardcore - 10-18-2009 at 01:01 PM

those lights look corny as fuck. However I would like to see em live. Way to expensive for my wallet.

Mark Lind - 10-18-2009 at 02:11 PM

I saw them on this tour about a year ago. Lars is the shittiest drummer I've seen since we were doing the VFW circuit. Some of his bungles are really embarrassing.

But otherwise you're gonna have a great time.

I still like metallica. Hope it's a good show.

Last time I saw them was on the "where ever I may roam" tour. I loved Jason singing Whiplash.

I saw Lamb of God open for Slayer a few years ago on that big tour Slayer was leading.... it also had Mastodon and Children of Bodom on the show.

Anyway, Lamb of God were intense and I'd go so far as to say that they may have blown Slayer off the stage. It was a small arena called The Tsongas Arena up here. It probably holds 8000 people so it's not like the Boston Garden or anything. It was really a sight to see. The place went berserk. But I can't really take L.O.G. all that serious. They were very much like a modern and less talented version of Pantera and I just couldn't look beyond that.

The point I'm getting at.... a Slayer show.... even a big Slayer show is still relatively underground. People in the know come out. Metallica brings out average Joes. There's just no way these people will like Lamb of God. It's just gonna sound like noise to them. Average people want to hear songs, not a band like L.O.G. or Hatebreed that have crowd reaction parts. I think it's nice that Metallica is taking smaller metal bands out on the road and giving them a shot but it's a waste of time and effort. Of the 20,000 people there to see Metallica last year in Boston, I can't imagine more than 50 people thinking Machine Head was even listenable. No disrespect to those bands but they ain't radio rock.

Metallica should be taking out bands like Godsmack, Alice in Chains, AFI..... people will like these bands.

DaveMoral - 10-19-2009 at 01:49 AM

Wait... Metallica is touring with Lamb of God?

I'd say Shadows Fall would be more appropriate for Metallica... I think they're likely to catch the ears of the average joe more so.

panzerkreuzer - 10-19-2009 at 06:22 AM

i saw metallica earlier this year. they were great and even covered 3/4 of a slayer song. i would go see them again.
here machine head were opener, was a cool line up.

JawnDiablo - 10-19-2009 at 07:57 AM

I really dislike LOG.
the kid who used to work with me used to play them every day.
they just sounded like a bunch of gay teenagers tryin to scare old ladies.
I did not find one thing about them all that likeable, and I still dig some metal.
I also saw them with Slayer, and couldn't wait for them to be over so the bartendetrs could hear me when i wanted another overpriced $7 beer.

JawnDiablo - 10-19-2009 at 09:05 AM

so is Kerry King on the juice or is he just fat?
cause he looks like he dismembered and ate the old Kerry King from the back cover of Show no Mercy....

I was thinking this recently about Jeff Hanneman. To me, Kerry King looks like he plays football or something. Jeff Hanneman looks like he ingested old Jeff Hanneman. I think it's time they take the 30-rack of Bud off their concert rider. Hanneman was supposed to be the skinny guy in the band.

Ok scratch that.... they both let themselves go. Is it ok to do that in metal?

JawnDiablo - 10-19-2009 at 09:16 AM

Tom Araya....good god...his face looks like a scrotum

Spoiler - 10-19-2009 at 01:13 PM

The show was good,I really enjoyed it. They sounded alot better then I expected.
Here is the setlist:
That Was Just Your Life
The End Of The Line
For Whom The Bell Tolls
The Four Horsemen
One
Broken, Beat And Scarred
Cyanide
Sad But True
Turn The Page [Bob Seger]
The Judas Kiss
The Day That Never Comes
Master Of Puppets
Fight Fire With Fire
Nothing Else Matters
Enter Sandman

Too Late, Too Late [Motörhead]
Phantom Lord
Seek & Destroy

I was kinda disappointed that they did not play Fade to Black, but they did play a few of songs that I wasn't expecting....Phantom Lord,The Four Hoursemen & Fight Fire With Fire. During one song they dropped about a thousand black Metallica beach balls from the ceiling.

I agree 100% with what mark said about Lamb of God,they were good, but the crowd just couldn't get into them.I've seen them a few times in smaller spaces and they were way better. They are just not an arena band.
There was a 3rd band who played first, but I have no clue who they were nor do I care...horrible.

Ha Ha, I haven't been on the board in a while. This was fun reading through again.
