Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Dave - 10-19-2009 at 06:51 PM

so I have it narrowed down to two.....

do i get the.......

BlackBerry - Tour (which i can get now)

or
The I-Phone (which i would have to wait until Nov4th or something for the release of it on Telus)

any input would be great!

jonnynewbreed - 10-19-2009 at 07:21 PM

I love my blackberry but I use it for business. I am a die hard mac guy and think the iphone is more fun.

You have to ask yourself are you business or fun and then make your decision.

Dave - 10-19-2009 at 07:36 PM

yeah, i dont want a phone for playing games or anything, and i already have an 80 gig ipod......

emails, texts, msgs etc. and once in a while talking on the phone....
maybe ill just get the tour, like i had planned on.

XHonusWagnerX - 10-19-2009 at 07:40 PM

if the costs are similar I would go iPhone. I dont know anyone that has an iPhone and is unhappy with it. I also know some people with Blackberrys that got them because they were a little cheaper than an iPhone and even though they like their phones they all say that the iPhone is the best.

Dave - 10-19-2009 at 08:01 PM

yeah i think that they are about the same cost

Spoiler - 10-19-2009 at 08:22 PM

I loved my Blackberry Pearl, but since I switched to the iPhone ,I've never looked back. Get the 3Gs...you want regret it.

Spoiler - 10-19-2009 at 08:24 PM

Hey Honus, have you seen the Record collector app they have now ? It give's pressing info and such. Pretty cool. I think it's just called "Record" or something like that if you want to search it.

Vanilla Gorilla - 10-19-2009 at 08:47 PM

My friend has been through 3 iPhones so far various problems i would stay away.

BDx13 - 10-19-2009 at 08:57 PM

what do you have at home?
from what i understand, the ipod works better w/ the pc than the blackberry works w/ the mac.

also, if you're just talking email and text, go iphone.
if you need excel, go blackberry.

clevohardcore - 10-19-2009 at 09:01 PM

iphone if cost is not a issue.

Dave - 10-19-2009 at 09:08 PM

I have a PC at home, i dont need excel or anything, mostly emails, messenging etc. with the odd google search or something.
I think that they will cost about the same. so that isnt really a concern.

see now i posted this on another board, and i get the same responses, either get the iphone its great, or dont get the iphone, its shit.....

since i have had the BB, to use this past week, im kinda getting used to it. and like the way it works.

but im not sure about having the full touch screen for everything.

moforn - 10-19-2009 at 09:20 PM

I picked up an iphone a few weeks ago and love it- though I've never used a blackberry so can't really compare. User friendly interface, syncs with itunes and lots of apps that I've found more useful than I expected... starting to wonder how I ever managed without the mobile gps.

XHonusWagnerX - 10-19-2009 at 09:41 PM

I <3 my iPhone

I dont know about the record collector app, but I'm gonna look.

Dave - 10-19-2009 at 09:49 PM

if i needed an music player, it wouldnt be a decision at all.
but with a 80gig ipod i would never use a phone as a music player.

im kinda leaning towards the BB...
but if i want i can have the BB demo loaner i have until the iphone is released, then i can decide......

BB has GPS as well.

BDx13 - 10-19-2009 at 09:58 PM

so does iphone.

whichever you choose, take your time and pick the one that's right for you.
don't rush for the bb cause it's avail now.
nov is like two weeks away.

Spoiler - 10-19-2009 at 10:04 PM

The only thing that I don't like about my iPhone is that the ear piece volume has never been loud enough for me.Sometimes I have trouble hearing the other caller well. I have the 1st generation iPhone ,so I doubt the newer ones will have this problem though.

Honus,check your u2u

tireironsaint - 10-19-2009 at 10:09 PM

I have the Tour and love it. The last phone I had was one of many that Verizon was touting as competition for the iphone which I think was just what they said because it had a touch screen. The touch screen on that thing was a pain in the ass and is the reason I eventually cashed in my upgrade and got a Blackberry. This is my first Blackberry and the one and only complaint I've had is that they couldn't switch my contact list over from the old phone for some reason, even though I had their deal with that phone that allowed me to save my contacts online. I've heard very good things about the iphone and think it would be a tough decision for me too if I had the option, but we don't have a carrier for it here. In fact, a friend of mine has been using a friend's address in a part of the state which is covered by AT&T just so he could get an iphone, but they recently busted him on it and now he may lose his service altogether and have a very expensive paperweight.

This ramble probably didn't help at all, sorry.

Spoiler - 10-19-2009 at 10:26 PM

when I had my Blackberry,I had to pay for an additional data plan that was $29.99 on top of my regular cell bill. I only pay like $69.99 for everything with my iPhone.

Discipline - 10-19-2009 at 11:07 PM

Cell phomes are evil. Never had one, never want to have one.

JUICE MAYNE MSHC - 10-19-2009 at 11:13 PM

I carry both a Blackberry Bold and an iPhone. I would say if messaging and email is your main priority then go Blackberry. If you want to have fun then go with the iPhone. Both have features and applications that overlap so you can pretty much do anything with either but the iPhone will be a more fun and fluid experience, the Blackberry is mainly a utility, though the fun part is getting better over time.

XHonusWagnerX - 10-20-2009 at 06:27 AM

I never use my iPhone for music (I have a 120 gig iPod) but I still love the phone.

I think unless you want the phone for 100% buisness use the iPhone is the way to go.

The volume issue is better with the new ones, I had the OG one and it was quiet, but now I have the 3GS and its better.

I dont think theres anything that my iPhone doesnt do that I would want it to do. With the video and the picture/video messaging now its pretty much pefrect.

*edit: a flash on the camera would be nice, but the pictures do come out pretty damn good for a phone.

XHonusWagnerX - 10-20-2009 at 06:28 AM

Also, I dont know which one it is, but Howard Stern has a Blackberry that he loved for the first few weeks and now hes swapping it for a different phone because he has so much trouble with it.

He used to use a Treo (sp?) but switched to the Blackberry earlier this year.

Vanilla Gorilla - 10-20-2009 at 07:52 AM

You may want to check out the HTC Hero. Mybuddy just got one and says he likes it better than the Iphone or Blackberry, this guy loves phones too, buys a new seems like every few months.

Dave - 10-20-2009 at 08:48 AM

the main thing about the iphone (and the likes) is the full touch screen, i'm not sure how into i would be typing on a touch keyboard.....

BDx13 - 10-20-2009 at 08:56 AM

touch keypad takes a day, tops, to get used to.

I'll admit,It took a little getting used too.But the iPhone has a landscape size keyboard that the Blackberry don't have, which makes it pretty easy. It auto corrects misspelled words and shows word suggestions as you type.
The iPhone learns words that you type.If you type THORP a lot,it will recognize it when you start to type it.So when you type TH,it knows that the next letter should be O,so the area around the letter O gets bigger so that you don't accidently hit the other keys next to it. The more you use it,the easier it gets.

But like BD said, just wait a couple of weeks and try them both out yourself. Its all about personal preference. You may hate the iphone once you use it....who knows.

Dave - 10-20-2009 at 10:13 AM

yeah ill keep an open mind about it, and once i see the plans etc. it might make my decision easier

lifeisabitch - 10-20-2009 at 11:55 PM

I have had a blackberry storm, (touch screen like I-phone) and now I have the bold...
the Bold blows the Storm away as far as the keyboard...
I had the I-phone as an option but I do too much business with the phone to have an I-phone

best bet is to play with friends phones to see which you like, everyone seems to have one or the other these days
