Motherfuckin' POGUES!

tireironsaint - 10-22-2009 at 10:03 PM

Finally getting the chance to see The Pogues tomorrow. They're playing Denver with The Detroit Cobras opening up and I'm headed up first thing in the morning. Cannot fucking wait. I got to see Shane with The Popes almost ten years ago and that was fucking amazing and I thought it would be the closest I'd ever get to seeing the full band. Of course, they've brought Shane back and been playing shows for quite some time now, but never in a place or at a time when I could get to see them. Now that it's here I can hardly contain myself. Call me a dork or whatever, but I feel like a kid going to Disney World for the first time. I really oughta get off of here and get packing, we're making it a weekend trip up there and I think we'll see Youth Brigade with Frontside Five on Saturday too. Should be fan-fucking-tastic!

By the way, any of you that dig the skate punk/thrashy type stuff should check out Frontside Five, great band.

I had an amazing time, some of the Pogues look pretty fuckin' frail, but they laid it down! The only song they didn't play that I really would have loved to see was Fairytale Of New York, but not having a female in the band at this point makes that one a bit difficult. I mean, in all honesty, I would have loved to see them play their entire back catalog, but that would take days, so I'll take what I got and be ridiculously happy about that.

I very nearly had an issue with a very large "Irish for a day" douchebag, but someone finally got rid of him for me. Even aside from the 10 cent fake accent and shit, this was one of those idiots who thinks that it somehow enhances the show to scream "WOOOO" every thirty seconds or so at the top of his lungs and try to hug everyone around him. He wouldn't even stop that shit between bands, he couldn't understand why I told him to shut the fuck up and quit jumping on my back when there was nobody on stage except guitar techs. I'll never understand that mentality....

How were the Detroit Cobras? they're pretty high on my "must see" list.

This was my second time seeing them and while I highly recommend 'em, they weren't at the top of their game this time. Still really good, but they were being rushed through a fairly short set in front of a crowd that could mostly care less, so it's understandable. Personally, I think they're an amazing band and was very glad they were opening this show so I could see 'em again.

glad you got to see them....
they are the cat's meow for sure

So worth the ticket price. One friend who came up with us had to get a ticket from a scalper and paid 110 bucks and said he felt like it was worth plenty more. I don't know how much longer they will be able to do this, it looks like some of those guys might kick off even before Shane does. At this point I wouldn't be shocked if he outlived the rest of the band. I wouldn't be too shocked if he died next week either, but I think he just might outlast at least a few of 'em.
