First thought was Resolute NWT, then thought of some far north Siberian Russian town. The whole 50,000+ people screwed up that train of thought though.

my first guess was exactly that region. i flew over the himalaya there in august and it was one of the craziest sights i've ever seen. as far as the eye could see (from a plane!) all there was was brown, dusty mountain ridges with maybe a small stream or a patch of snow here and there. it just went on and on. then 20 minutes later i looked out the window again and it was still the same exact sight.
