Vegan Reich Reactivating

According to their MySpace, the controversial hardline group Vegan Reich are writing and rehearsing for a new record. Led by Sean Muttaqi and often credited as being the originators of the vegan straight edge movement, the group's latest offering was an EP, Jihad, released in 1999 by Uprising Records. Along with their hardline beliefs, the band gained some notoriety for the drummer on that EP, Andy Hurley of Racetraitor who went on to join Fall Out Boy.

As of yet, no release date has been given for the new record.

I was in a band called RAID in about 1987.

We were RAID because BLACK FLAG was a bug spray and they were pretty cool so we used the other bug spray name.

JawnDiablo - 11-4-2009 at 04:47 PM

in their honor, I shall have beef for dinner tonight.

DaveMoral - 11-4-2009 at 04:56 PM

I already knew about it. Sean's a close friend of mine and my kung fu teacher.

REV.PAULIE - 11-5-2009 at 06:13 AM

Fucking HORRIBLE heavy metal...I could'nt care less what they stand for..."hardline"?????????

I hope you choke to death on the next cock you smoke.

Call me names,you faggot's bitch...fuck them,and all that follow..."iron Maiden"????

FUCK YOU WHERE YOU BREATHE.

DaveMoral - 11-5-2009 at 11:38 AM

Jeez louise you guys are reactionary.

I'm not giving you shit, Paulie, because you clowned vegans on "Drop Dead And Go To Hell." Vegan straight edgers don't throw a shitfit when every band that sings songs about "drinkin' with the boys" do reunions or whatever.

It's just music, and the dudes ain't hurtin' you. Chill the fuck out.

vince - 11-5-2009 at 12:01 PM

Honus, do you remember the Limit? My band played with them once in TN, I think it was 1990.

gavin - 11-5-2009 at 12:09 PM

They were also the first rock band to combine militant animal rights leanings, an extreme straight edge conservative stance against drugs, sex and abortion, a desire for anarchy to be preceded by a so-called “vegan dictatorship,” a harsh stance against racism and sexism

it seems kind of sexist to me to have some dopes in a band(all dudes) decide that abortion is wrong for females.
thinnly veiled right wing politics

I've nothing against vegans,whatsoever...you can go and eat all the blandest shit in the world, and I will fight for your right to do so..! Same goes for straight edge...GOOD FOR YOU! YOU'RE SOBER 24/7!! So....WHY ARE YOU SO ANGRY??(not you,Dave...)

It's these bullshit faggot "revolutionary" types that I have a problem with...there's this bitch merch guy that I saw selling shirts saying crap along the lines of "I hope you overdose",et al...if that's "hardline",I'd like to strangle this bitch with his fucking shitbraids...("shitbraids" are whitefolk "dreads").

I love animals! I don't eat all of them, nor would I want to...It's not my fault that pigs are made of delicious cuts of meat...If I were to befriend a pig, perhaps I would think otherwise...but,living in Bushwick pretty much fucks my chances of that ever happening.

I will never,NEVER,eat a monkey.

Which goes perfectly with your "befriending" statement... Monkey's are WAY to easy to befriend.

Personally, I love food with a face. But I bet Moneky's taste horrible.

REV.PAULIE - 11-5-2009 at 01:12 PM

I'm sure there are a hell of a lot of really cool pigs/cows out there...I've just yet to meet/hang with them...

I'd like to think that all the pigs/cows that I've consumed were Nazi's,and I'm just doing my part as a True American.

No, the cows create methane that ruins the ozone so you are doing your part to "consume" the problem and save our ozone.

Vegans are part of the problem in this case.

newbreedbrian - 11-5-2009 at 05:00 PM

Politics aside, and believe me that's a whole discussion in itself I listened to the songs on the myspace page. First one was pretty metal, not anything special but really not that terrible. Miles better than most of the new so called hardcore (again a whole seperate discussion itself). I did, however, dig the second song "The way it is". Damn, wasn't expecting that at all. REALLY big Articles of Faith feel to that one which is totally up my alley. Hmm, I remember these guys being around when I was younger but first I've heard 'em I think.

barc0debaby - 11-5-2009 at 05:15 PM

Those Shoot you neighborhood drug dealer t shirts are pretty fuckin dumb.

Not by a long shot. Supporting the meat industry in that case does far worse damage, add the upped production of methane because they are supplying your demand for the cow flesh... but then there's also the increased carbon production due to the consumption of fossil fuels to produce the grains the cows are fed, transport them, feed them to the cows, transport the cows to the slaughterhouse, give power to the farm and the slaughter house, then transport the shit to your local grocer or butcher.

You should hear stop talking - start revenging... that song's pretty much all Crass all the way.

As for politics, it's some of the reactionary bullshit in this very thread that Vegan Reich and the whole Hardline movement was a reaction to. People getting clowned and dissed for being vegan/vegetarian and moronic shit, like throwing meat or dead animals at them.

As for abortion, being pro-life is 100% consistent with an ideology that all life in intrinsically valuable(sacred, if you will) and that essentially, human lives are no different from animal lives. Hence why the guys were vegan, after all. They just took that a step further in consistency. And there were/are women who agree with them.

I don't know what merch guy you're talking about... but I can only imagine Sean saying that to someone 20 years ago when he was still a pissed teenager. And then probably after some sort of altercation. Of course, he was known for solving things with his fists more than his mouth anyways.

In my experience, there are a TON of boneheads out there in this hardcore scene... straight edge or not... and often times those that fall into the "not" category can be total douchebags to straight edge kids because they're "no fun" or whatever. I've dealt with that bullshit myself, it only made me an asshole right back. Same deal with veganism. I remember a kid trying to shove a hamburger in my friend's face for no reason than to just clown him for being vegan... that only pissed us both off and certainly didn't make us chill.

It's hardcore, if something pisses you off you say something about and it refuse to back down. That's just kind of how it is.
