How Does everyone feel about Solo projects?

jonnynewbreed - 9-28-2004 at 11:13 AM

I only ask because i'm about to go into the studio and record a solo record. I'd like it to turn out like a mix between Billy Bragg and Steve Earle (without the twang). My first solo show is on October 11th and i'm nervous as hell.

Just in case anyone was wondering The New Breed www.the-newbreed.com is still a huge part of my life, i've just got more to go around.

Good luck witht hat. Hope to hear a few mp3's when it is done.

What a coincidence I have port city rebels in my bookbag, here until 6:45 tonight, might as well have some music right?

I used to think it was an ego thing to do a solo project, but now I realize that people have other things going on inside them that may not always fit with what their main band is doing and I don't think it would be right to just throw that away because it doesn't fit. I don't have a whole lot of solo records, but the ones I do have I love. I say good luck to you, Jonny.

Thanks guys. Yeah The New Breed has been my band since i was a kid. I learned so much over the years with those guys and will learn a whole lot more over the years with them. I just know that we'll be around for years to come to record albums.

But at this point in my life, its the only music i've ever made and i have so many songs that don't fit into the band thing. I'll definitly be sure to post some songs for ya'll to listen too when they're done.

Solo projects are cool as long as they're not the same as your main band, and yours sounds like it won't be so go for it. Nothing tried nothing gained as the saying goes. Good luck!

Solo projects never bothered me so long as long as it's clear that things are still cool with the band. Don't be a Justin, man!

yeah Jonny, you thinking of ditching us there tough guy?

:P

jonnynewbreed - 9-29-2004 at 09:35 AM

The band IS my life! I would just like to be playing more often, and i'd like to be able to tour a little more. The New Breed is my band and will be my band for a long time to come. When I mean solo, i mean solo, i'm not playing with other musicians. No one need worry about us breaking up or anything stupid like that. After 7 years together i think we're technically all married to eachother.:P

BDx13 - 9-29-2004 at 12:19 PM

will you create a new 'johnnyaccoustic' screenname on the boards? or are you gonna play all kinds of instruments, cause then you can be 'johnnyonemanband'.

jonnynewbreed - 9-29-2004 at 01:23 PM

I could use those names i guess. The style would be more like Billy Bragg than Bob Dylan. I use both acoustic and electric guitars.

Im pretty impartial to solo projects I guess. Good luck with that.

Jonny - found any name yet for ur solo thing?

jonnynewbreed - 11-18-2004 at 10:06 AM

I figured i'd just use my name, Jonny Stevens. The record is turning out really great. There are some real rootsy songs and some great rockers. I'm playing most instruments and getting friends of mine to help with the rest. It is very different than the new breed in sound. I'll make sure to post a song soon.

brooklyn - 11-18-2004 at 10:15 AM

yeah, keep us posted on website, mp3, records, labels, .... Always interested in new stuff, and although it will be different than The NB - which I REALLY like - it's good to hear new vibes.

jonnynewbreed - 11-18-2004 at 02:40 PM

Thanks brooklyn.

Dave - 11-18-2004 at 03:37 PM

i got the hear abit of the ol' solo recording, some of it sounds pretty good, i'd sit down and listen to some of it, and i'm picky as hell when it comes to music. ;)

nice work so far Jonny, if you want i can post a song on the site for ya, but i get to choose it! :P
