Selling Crap on Ebay

Todd - 5-31-2005 at 09:23 AM

So, do any of you youngsters have any experience with selling collectable records on ebay? I'm such a knob that I'm afraid to do it (or, more realistically, I'm too lazy). If I put very high minimum bids does that mean that noone can lowball me and walk away with my precious goods for a steal? Hopefully you guys won't be as useless and mean to me as I typically am to you, Todd.

Ive never sold anything on ebay, but Ive bought plenty of stuff. Setting a high first bid is a good idea if you dont want your stuff to go for cheap. You could also make the auction have a reserve that's set to about the amount youre looking for. That way if nobody bids up to the reserve, you dont have to sell it.

Things that I look for when bidding on records....

-pictures of the item.
-a thorough description of the condition
-any pressing info on the rarity, pressing, color, etc.

That's all I can think of. A seller having paypal is always a plus, because Im lazy and hate having to mail money orders. Also it gives me some security. A kid tried to rip me off once by saying he never got his money. I contacted paypal and they got me my money back.

Thanks alot MrMoron. I appreciate the help. I have access to a digital camera and most of my stuff is pretty mint so it should work out pretty good. Thanks again. Todd.

I'd have to agree with moron 100%. I'll just add that I like the idea of a reserve, but it is kind of annoying not knowing how much somebody wants as a minimum price if I'm bidding on it. I always hate it when I get a notice that I'm the top bidder but the reserve hasn't been met. The most important piece of advice I can give you Todd, throw a link to your auction up here so we can get in on it.

i want to RIP MOTHERFUCKERS OFF and despite my grumpy attitude, i actually like most of the dudes that hang out here. trust me, you do not want to pay me 500 dollars for an AF 7" and i would hate sellin it to you. i want some spoiled brat that's been into hardcore since last thursday to pay through the nose for these little pieces of plastic. i desperately need money or this wouldn't even be an issue. seems that starkweather may be going on a little trip...

One other piece of advice Todd, check the feedback of the people bidding on your shit. If theirs is horrible you may just want to tell them to fuck off cause they probably won't pay in the end anyways.

Post a link anyways. Might want to see the overpriced shit yer selling.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll definitely post a link and if I'm doing ok money wise, I'll hook up guys on the Thorp board, with Mr.Duane getting first crack at everything.

i have in all of my auction listings that i will not accept bids from users with zero or only negative feedback. unless they contact me first, i remove them and block them, for some reason hardcore kids are notorious for bidding on shit and not paying up....

thanks for the brotherly love, mrdiablo. i may just give someone 10% to do everything for me. i hate that shit and i'm usually too soft on people. i'd end up giving everything away for free. i'll use your site as a template if i do it since you obviously know what you're doing. thanks, todd.

the high starting price and the reserve are both good ideas. they offer the same protection, but appeal to different mentalities. i check completed auctions to see if my items have sold recently, and for how much. if i know my item is guaranteed to sell for a certain amount, i just start the bidding at $1 with no reserve and let people get emotionally involved in the auction. the lower the starting bid, the more who bid, the more passionate they get about winning, the higher the bidding goes.

like moron said... pics, good description. and juan's idea is a good one - mind their feedback.

Todd - 5-31-2005 at 10:41 PM

i'm gonna pay someone to do it for me. it sounds like i would just end up aggravated. imagine that. rennie says hello. i baked brownies tonight, mmm, mmm, good. I still have the starkweather test presses for you if i ever run into you.

BDx13 - 5-31-2005 at 10:44 PM

i saw ren and hacksaw pat higgins at Killing Time on Thursday. haven't seen him since you guys played cb's 3+ years ago. hell, haven't seen YOU since then either!

Todd - 5-31-2005 at 10:51 PM

i am deeeep undercover and have no plans of coming out until august 24th. check your u2u for the reasoning behind that. he actually had a pretty good time although hours in the car with higgins can insight murder/suicide.

I think it would be fun to get stuck in traffic with Pat and Todd. As long as Pat's driving.
