If people getting paid for doing dumb shit is the worlds downfall we may as well shut er down. Just about anything besides farming is not needed to survive and probably 90% of jobs have no socially redeeming purpose other than attempting to fluff our own bank account.

In the end, Joe Blow getting paid for skateboarding doesn't really effect my day. I wish I could get paid for something I'd do for free everyday anyway because I enjoyed it. May someone will sponsor me to drink and scratch myself.

We're all goin down, may as well make it comfortable.

You may be comfortable with the "We're all going down..." stance (or,SIT,actually),but I'm not.Never have been,never will be.That's why I create.Not for the profit (although,the pittance I've gotten has helped me sometimes in my hand-to-mouth financial state),but to remind myself - and,others - that it's not necessary to give up,and accept what's being fed to you just because it's easier.I'll continue fighting the good fight,not because it makes me feel at one with mankind,but because it's in my nature.Just as it's in yours to sit back,relax,and make snide comments.Hey,that's your right to do so.Everyone has a right to do nothing,or contribute even less.It sounds like a charmed existence.

You didn't say it would save the world, but you did allude to peoples cavalier attitude towards other peoples less than morally/socially significant means of income being the reason "America - Hell,the World,for that matter - is fucked. " Sure it's moderately frustrating to see some guy make money off something trivial like that when people are hurting and starving everywhere...the people who are creating the problems and hurt and starvation love to distract us with shit like and Tiger Woods love interests.

Live your life how you need to live it. That's all anyone can do. If you can make your corner of the world better by your creativity than more power to ya Paul.

I'm not going to go into some long diatribe about what I do to enrich my life, it doesn't have a whole lot to do with the initial comment and I don't feel the need to justify myself with references to some romanticized "good fight", especially when none of us are doing anything more than the equivalent of throwing pebbles in the ocean to try and create a tidal wave ourselves....at best.

All I know is what some dude does for gainful employment is not my concern if he's not harming or hindering other people from living their own lives.

A more soft handed approach to adressing your woahs over professional "extreme" sports and their effect on world culture. Sarcasm clearly had you contemplating our place in the world around us so I tried to put myself in the place of someone who gets riled over a man skateboarding for a living. Still not saying it has to make sense but stating that I could see how some people possibly could be upset over something like this at some foundational level.

Certainly every move that I make is not "spiritually rewarding".But the whole ,and I'm paraphrasing,"as long as he's not hurting anyone,why shouldn't he be a millionaire" train of thought is a fucking cop-out.It's not just some momo tooling around on a friggin' souped up moving dolly - but any "sports" figure getting paid millions upon millions that irks me.And those being duped into believing it's "justified".Whether it be corporate sponsorship,or raping fans at the gate with outlandish ticket prices - the whole consumerist "ethic" that makes me sick.

Two things:

1) A guy getting paid as a pro skateboarder is no more absurd then a football player, soccer player or golfer. They are all sports, they are all hard and there is no one on this board that has any where near the talent to do any of them.

2) Mike is by no means a good representation of a pro skateboarder. Many years ago he may have been something, but the guy aint shit compared to todays standards. He is not a pro skateboarder anymore.

As far as the state of the world, as long as I can still make money of people then I am more then happy with the so called state of the world. And that ladies and gentleman, is what the real problem is and I will be the first to admit and tell you that I don't care.
