Did your parents give you 'the talk'?

BDx13 - 12-7-2009 at 03:32 PM

How old were you?

Study shows 40% of kids are doin' the business before the talk:

Never had it.

JawnDiablo - 12-7-2009 at 04:21 PM

think i was like 9 or so.
it came about because a older kid on my block pretty much told me "you stick your pecker in a girl and out comes a baby"
i came home and told my mom while she was reading the newspaper......short stunned moment, then i got the low down from what i remember.

Vanilla Gorilla - 12-7-2009 at 04:46 PM

I honestly don't remember getting the talk, or if i did i blocked it out

newbreedbrian - 12-7-2009 at 05:09 PM

nope

tireironsaint - 12-7-2009 at 05:55 PM

My dad finally broke down and laid it on me when he came home and my girlfriend and I were making out on the floor. Funny thing is, had he come home an hour earlier, he would have known it was waaayyy too late to try to talk about it.

clevohardcore - 12-7-2009 at 05:56 PM

never had it. First time I banged a chick I was 14. Parents never gave a shit to think about that stuff.

never got one.

We got "sex ed" in 5th grade and then we had it in 6th when I switched to public school. We had it one hour every day for two weeks in 6th grade. I was "in the know".

My mom, God love her, tried in a car ride during 8th grade but I just sort of interupted and told her I knew what was up. She made a great effort. She really did. She went with "You know, some of your friends are going to try things..." She really made a good effort and I'm sure I didn't make it easier.

never got the talk. I think my mother came close when I was about 9, but she was drunk with a short attention span.

Got sex ed. in junior high school. Not long after that, my old man asked me if we needed to have the talk. I told him it was covered.

DaveMoral - 12-8-2009 at 12:56 AM

I had sex ed in 5th grade and I think again maybe in jr high health class. I don't really remember my parents giving me the talk, but I wasn't a super confident dude in HS... I didn't have sex til I was 20, and that was with my now wife.

Dave - 12-8-2009 at 08:21 AM

you know what i think, we had something in health class in jr. high...maybe grade 7...

gavin - 12-8-2009 at 10:14 AM

they are supposed to give it to me next week....

My mum would never have approached that subject, my dad however, told me from a very early age that if he ever found out i was doing anything with boys, then i wouldnt ever see the light of day again! not exactly 'the talk' but his own version i suppose, for years only my mum knew i had boyfriends and so on and my dad then sat me down a few years later and asked if i was a lesbian because he never saw me with any guys! haha.

M.Alki - 12-9-2009 at 02:55 PM

Also just to add, i was just on the phone to one of my friends and mentioned this post just asking her if either of her parents ever had the talk with her as shes a fair bit older than me and apparantly, as she hit 16, her mother asked her if she knew what a blowjob was and said she could come to her for tips and then imformed her that she had lots of porn and if she ever needed to use any it was in the top drawer by her bed! wtf?!

Six66Mike - 12-10-2009 at 08:35 AM

Never had a talk, I learned from Sue.

BDx13 - 12-10-2009 at 11:16 AM

i grew up w/ my mom and step-dad. i was given a book at some point, maybe around 4th or 5th grade. couple years later, maybe around 7th grade, my step-dad decided to broach the topic while we were on a FIVE HOUR DRIVE. conversation wasn't that long, but the awkwardness lasted forever. my dad just talked about it straight up, like i was one of the guys, but always in his rodney dangerfield voice.

so now that you're older, what do you think would be (or would have been) the best way to handle it?
those of you that are parents, do you have a plan?

DaveMoral - 12-10-2009 at 11:39 AM

^Rodney Dangerfield voice???? "The talk" would be awesome coming from Rodney Dangerfield!

BDx13 - 12-10-2009 at 12:45 PM

it was never so much 'a talk' from my dad.
more like he just talked about his exploits...in the rodney dangerfield voice.
