Killthehumans - 6-2-2005 at 02:44 PM

i listen to some neil young, public enemy, some metal like napalm death and punk rock...but if you listen to hardcore the fact that you listen to punk is a given so i dont know if that count as a different type o' music

Discipline - 6-2-2005 at 03:52 PM

Other then hardcore/oi/punk I like some metal stuff, mostly older. Psychobilly and rockabilly get a lot of play around here, as well a ska. I like some more mainstream rock, but generally only with female vocals like Garbage, Cranberries, Holly McNarland, etc. I like Irish and Scottish pipe & drum music, as well as Irish folk. I will also admit, with no shame, that I'm a big fan of Sarah McLaughlin and Enya. Oh, and Sinead O' Connor kicks serious ass!

BL - 6-2-2005 at 04:00 PM

You're right, I must be a queer for liking other types of music. Too bad we can't all be hard-to-the-core badasses like you. You're a fuckin joke.

i feel some germs comin on.....

besides punk/hardcore/oi etc., i can be found listenin to straight up rock'n'roll/soul/ska/reggae/old country/bluegrass/irish/folk etc etc etc. i could frankly give a shit what anyone thinks about what i listen to. way too old to worry about that nonsense. and i think you've stumbled onto the wrong board "BL". you've done nothing but act like a dipshit since you got here. isn't there some internet drama you could be occupying your time with over at B9 or something?

JawnDiablo - 6-2-2005 at 04:54 PM

i listen to nothing but shelter, all day long 7 days a week.
hare christna!

CR83 - 6-2-2005 at 05:28 PM

DEICIDE, Obituary, and other select Dath Metal. Also enjoy New wave. Yes, I said it. NEW FUCKING WAVE!!!! I love the 80's.

RomanticViolence - 6-2-2005 at 05:37 PM

I like alot of different music... motown is awesome

SAAAAARS - 6-2-2005 at 05:48 PM

old country, oldies, hip hop/rap, crappy radio rock, punk, metal, i pretty much can go any/every direction.

tireironsaint - 6-2-2005 at 06:32 PM

Word Bad Vibes, have you heard the Manic Hispanic cover of that Germs song? Fuckin' Vato goodness.

As for the question, I dig GOOD music. That generally falls under the categories of Punk, real Country (not this pop shit that gets played nowadays), old Ska and Reggae, good old fashioned Rock 'n' Fuckin' Roll (like old Stones, ACDC, Rose Tattoo, The Who, Kinks, and so on), Psycho and Rockabilly, sixties Soul and some other shit too.

Todd - 6-2-2005 at 10:00 PM

Of course Mr Tire Iron and NB Brian got that. I listen to jazz fusion and 20th century classical because I'm pretentious. I love Simon and Garfunkel and just about anything Springsteen has ever done, PJ Harvey, Sixteen Horsepower and Woven Hand (dark and evil fire and brimstone christian shit), The Who, Zeppellin, Esquivel-Space Age Bachelor Pad Music, John Cash, Sinead O'Connor... could go on for days. Listening to just hardcore and metal would make me shoot myself.

newbreedbrian - 6-2-2005 at 11:06 PM

you diggin the new springsteen todd? it's really good. i was happy to see another acoustic record since i love nebraska and ghost of tom joad a whole lot

the new boss is the best thing he has done in years i think
i really like it alot

Todd - 6-2-2005 at 11:27 PM

I think it's fucking haunting and intense. I always wanted to get rennie to do a cover of Nebraska, since it's about our namesake, Mr. Starkweather. I've seen him 3 or 4 times and the dude rocks harder than I ever hope to. 3 1/2 fucking hours!!! Anyone that likes Motown stuff might like Solomon Burke-Don't Give Up On Me. That song almost makes me cry. I also like some oddball stuff like Secret Chiefs 3 and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, which I couldn't even describe. Also been listening to some Pink Floyd. Not a hiphop fan but I like that dude Mike Jones cos he uses his real name and puts his cell phone number on his shirts. MrBad, do you know that Sinead song off of her 3rd album called 'Hold Back The Night'? That song gives me chills and when I was in the "hospital" I listened to it over and over. The chorus is mind numbing.

gavin - 6-2-2005 at 11:30 PM

i dont think i know that song
which was her third album?
what else was on it
its been so long since i have listened to her

Todd - 6-2-2005 at 11:35 PM

"Faith and Courage" is the album. Chorus: "Do you wanna be, my dying day, my darkest hour, my overdose, cos that's what you'll be". Just imagine-wife left me, caught in some bad habits, and relinquished of my belt and shoelaces, and I'm listening to this over and over and over... Maybe you had to be there.

gavin - 6-2-2005 at 11:40 PM

nah i understand about certain songs

there are songs that make me cry everytime i hear them no matter how many times

theres this CASH song called "as long as the grass shall grow"
holy shit

for some reason i find this to be the saddest song ever and its really not

its him and june singing together about how much they love each other and johnny will love her as long as the grass still grows

god damn

im getting chills just thinking about it

im gay i know
and emo too

so sue me

thedog - 6-2-2005 at 11:59 PM

some non hardcore/punk/oi stuff i listen to...
ska... madness, specials, etc.
eighties stuff... police, talking heads, cars, etc.
old country... cash, hank, eddie arnold, george jones
some rap, mostly older stuff... biz markie, beastie boys, house of pain, wu-tang, jurassic 5
for laughs... Dennis Leary " no cure for cancer" cd ...still funny
irish music
other random stuff
everlast
soulfly
portishead - great "chick" music

i will listen to almost anything

geneterror - 6-3-2005 at 12:06 AM

Hip Hop
Black, Thrash and Death Metal
Sublime
and Johnny Cash!

I wish I had time for more stuff but I keep goin' back to Blood For Blood and Sheer Terror all the time, sometimes other stuff gets played as well like those listed above.

geneterror - 6-3-2005 at 12:07 AM

Oh yeah and like thedog said above me I am partial to a bit of Portishead as well.

gavin - 6-3-2005 at 12:12 AM

the cure RULES
i dont care what anyone says
pictures of you is one of the best songs i ever heard

todd, im listening to that sinead song now.
holy crap its good
i never really got into this cd all that much i guess
i went up and found it
none of it seems familiar to me but i am really digging it now

and portishead rules too
love them
along with mazzy star
i love them too

BDx13 - 6-3-2005 at 12:17 AM

i can't watch that cash "hurt" video without tearing up. and shane macgowan's "you're the one" duet with maire brennan was the song my wife and i did our first dance to at our wedding, so that one always makes me a bit emotional.

BDx13 - 6-3-2005 at 12:17 AM

on the flip side of that emotion coin, i've gotten into more fights while listening to startweather than any other band. by a long shot. the songs take so fucking long to crecendo, by the time the do i can't fucking control myself any more.

"thanks guys."
- duane's bloody knuckles

Todd - 6-3-2005 at 12:27 AM

Duane, you and my other misanthropic friends on the thorp board are making me feel better. the thing that was supposed to be announced today about the band is quickly falling apart and it's breaking my heart. I've never seen a band insight more violence than the mighty ALL OUT WAR!!!!!

newbreedbrian - 6-3-2005 at 12:34 AM

always been partial to "pornography" by the cure. the soundtrack to a mental breakdown

BDx13 - 6-3-2005 at 12:46 AM

i don't know what misanthropic means, but i will tell you that of all the fistacuffs i have engaged in while listening to starkweather, few have occured at actual shows.

remember that time in the mid-90s i was supposed to meet you guys in south philly to drive up to a show in poughkeepsie, but i never showed up? i was at a red light up in north philly when some guy on a bike rode by and hit the side view mirror on the plymouth acclaim. so i got out of the car and smacked him in the back of the head with a snapple bottle. guess what was in the tape deck at the time?

not six months ago i laid a guy out in the frozen food section of my local bodega while listening to croatoan on my ipod.

that shit ain't right, todd. it ain't right. the general public ain't ready for that, and i am getting too old for this shit.

gavin - 6-3-2005 at 12:54 AM

what happened in the frozen food section?
that sounds like something i would do

as a mater of fact, i havent been in a supermarket in 3 uears cuz i was close to killing a guy in line the last time i was.
my wife and i think its best i dont go anymore

Todd - 6-3-2005 at 01:01 AM

Man, Duane, i always thought you were kind of a peaceful dude. It's fucked up when you're a dad or weeks away from a terrible birthday and you're still getting in scraps. the fucked up thing is that I used to care whether I won. Now I'll start with groups of people and just take a beating. it feels good. my last fight, 5 drunken mexican fellas, one broken arm, broken nose, fractured ribs, completely split open lip, but all that mattered to me was that i caved one of the motherfuckers heads in with one of those big ass hotel phones. I WON!!!

BDx13 - 6-3-2005 at 01:04 AM

fortunately, we get most of our groceries delivered, so i don't often have to deal with the GP in the FS, but i was out picking up a few things and ran into one of those dudes that refuses to give an inch when there's not enough room to pass in an isle... three strikes, you're out.

--

this sounds like total cheese, i know, but...
when i saw rennie last week, i was telling him how after 9/11 and my kid's ordeal, i've really been trying to not let shit get to me. feels good overall, but clearly, there is still work to be done.

BDx13 - 6-3-2005 at 01:09 AM

before that guy in the bodega, it had been YEARS since i was in a fight. i ain't gonna lie, i hate fighting; that shit hurts. and i always feel kinda depressed afterwards, like "why did he have to go and do something SO dumb, that i had to hit him?" that shit weighs on me for days afterwards.

gavin - 6-3-2005 at 01:09 AM

yo me too duane
9/11 was a huge thing to me
changed my whole life
between that and the kids, im trying
really i am
the fuckers wont let me though
keep tempting me to do wrong
bastards

BDx13 - 6-3-2005 at 01:21 AM

i swear, i thought ren was gonna kick me in the nuts for saying that shit, but it's true. seeing those buildings come down, then walking home with my wife, people passing us all covered in soot and blood, wearing those useless little construction masks... that shit can't not have an effect on you. i've been trying to eliminate all drama from my life since that day. the way i see it, i've got one shot at being here, and i'm gonna enjoy it. if that's not hardcore enough for ya, i honestly don't care. i focus on me and mine and that's it.

Todd - 6-3-2005 at 01:25 AM

Duane, could you please add to my 'things i love' post. i know what's #1. no, not cheesesteaks,

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS THREAD ABOUT BEFORE I STARTED GETTING ALL EMO AND GRANOLA?

BDx13 - 6-3-2005 at 01:30 AM

i gotta get back to work.

gavin - 6-3-2005 at 01:38 AM

you get your food delivered duane?????

how the hell ya do that?
i want some of that action

BDx13 - 6-3-2005 at 01:40 AM

freshdirect.com. better quality and cheaper than the food store. nyc only, though.

Todd - 6-3-2005 at 01:43 AM

it's called freshdirect and becaus they don't have a store and crazy manhattan rent, they can sell the shit cheaper than a grocery store. another good reason to never leave teh house. that reminds me, Apocalypse Now, when the dude leaves the boat and see the tiger...don't leave the boat was a starkweather motto when we played live. we tried to hide in the van as long as possible. duane, don't worry about the new strkwthr causing chaos. the way things are going it will never come out.

Todd - 6-3-2005 at 01:46 AM

my belgian buddy just used the term "vegan straight edge nerdario". i give him many points for style and command of our language (which seems to be better than mine).

soulless - 6-3-2005 at 03:46 AM

almost anything. the only genres i completely avoid are rap and techno, there's probably. on my computer i've got killing time next to kenny chesney and although ordinarily i wouldn't admit to liking cheesy pop-country, i really don't care anymore. my sister said if i was her kid she would have disowned me for that stuff, but she'd probably say the same for the punk/hardcore/oi/rockabilly/psychobilly/pretentious indie pop/semi-indie semi-mainstream/old country/oldies/whatever the hell else i listen to.

i agree with whoeever that was that said the new springsteen is incredible. i forked over a good-sized chunk of my paycheck to see him on the tour for devils & dust when he came to boston last month and it was easily one of the best shows i've ever been to, if not the #1 best.

whoops. guess i should learn to read past the first page, now this is about groceries.

The best song I ever heard by her was the song she did with the Chieftains called "The Foggy Dew." I have never heard her voice sound as beautiful and haunting as on that track.

Somebody a few posts up mentioned All Out War. I love that fucking band but I have to laugh because their singer shares the same name with the singer from Flock Of Seagulls. I don't know why I actually know that fruits name but it still makes me laugh, especially when considering how opposite the 2 bands are.

sinister - 6-3-2005 at 08:36 AM

Loads of stuff... still into a lot of old 80's thrash bands like Nuclear Assault, Sacred Reich, DBC, all that kinda shit I grew up on alongside bands like Agnostic Front, DRI, Crumbsuckers, Suicidal. But other more laid back stuff like Bob Dylan, Johnny cash, Jewel, some old rock/metal like Rush, UFO and even a little rap/dance/reggae at times, it's all about the right music for the right moment.

viva hate - 6-3-2005 at 11:39 AM

i love depeche mode to nin to sisters of mercy.... death rock and new wave i guess, but i hate the cure.

viva hate - 6-3-2005 at 11:40 AM

oh and sinead o'connor IS awesome

brooklyn - 6-3-2005 at 12:13 PM

besides HC, punkrock, and some Oi:
Springsteen, Anouk, K'S Choice / Sarah Bettens, some bits of jazz (Van Morrison), Audioslave, some U2. The base is rock or jazz.

What I absolutely despise is nightclub music and Timberlake, J-Lo stuff and cheap, hitlist, fake hiphop. The hardhitting rap from NY from the late 80s, early 90s kicked ass. The new stuff is waterdown, MTV, suck-my-d* shit. Although Eminem is cool fro kicking some shit in the established rap world.

Anouk

Quality. I was gonna say Anouk but I thought no one would know who the fuck she was.

SHAKO KEN - 6-3-2005 at 05:01 PM

don't listen to much hardcore so most of it is other stuff. lots of types of metal and any other genres really. some favorites include the gun club, kyuss, palace brothers/music, cryptopsy, cephalic carnage, nuclear death, os mutantes. soft "girlie" stuff like denali, kaki king. and i hate you when you're pregnant for lyrical content.

btw i seriously didn't know anouk was popular outside holland & belgium. whenever she's on the radio i switch channels

clevohardcore - 6-3-2005 at 05:35 PM

my bloody valentine
cranberries
coldplay- I don't give a fuck what any of you say they write great songs
Tom Petty
Neil Young
Portishead
the Cure
Harry Connick Jr- Dude is wayy rad and writes some great tunes. Seriously Check some of his shit out.

KyleOz - 6-3-2005 at 08:56 PM

I listen to bands/artists that range from sense field, mission of burma, fugazi, murder city devils, glen miller, meatjack, dire straits, harakiri, government issue, ensiferum, big elf, blood for blood, chick corea, liquid tension experiment, journey, stigmata, toadies and it seems like millions more at times.

I really enjoy music as long as it appeals to my taste.

tireironsaint - 6-3-2005 at 10:54 PM

I first got a taste of both Sinead and Shane MacGowan when Sid & Nancy came out. That song Haunted made me wanna explode. I still love that song and I was just reminded of how awesome it is when I watched If I Should Fall From Grace (the Shane documentary) the other night. That DVD is amazing and not that I didn't like 'em anymore or anything, but it totally reignited my love for The Pogues.

tireironsaint - 6-4-2005 at 01:00 AM

Wait, now that I've been thinkin' about it, I can't remember if the version of Haunted on that soundtrack had Sinead or Cait O'Riordan. Fuck. Well, the version that has Sinead is amazing, actually any songs with Cait singing are awesome too. Come to think of it, there's something about women with Irish or Scottish accents singing that just slams me in the chest.

gavin - 6-4-2005 at 10:02 AM

yeah tire iron, there are 2 versions of that song.
you're right
one is from sid and nancy with cait singing
the other is from shanes first solo album with sinead and shane singing

both versions rule

newbreedbrian - 6-4-2005 at 12:03 PM

agreed. and that dvd is worth checkin out if you haven't mr vibes. even better is his autobiography. its done q & a style with his girlfriend interviewing him. plus someone else (who i really don't envy) has gone through all the trouble already of figuring out what the fuck he's saying for you.

tireironsaint - 6-4-2005 at 12:23 PM

Yeah, the book, I think it's called A Drink With Shane MacGowan, is amazing. Crazy fuckin' life he's had.

gavin - 6-4-2005 at 02:00 PM

yeah i read the book and have the dvd
both are awesome
i have to dig that book up again
i havent read it in a while

BDx13 - 6-4-2005 at 07:52 PM

i probably watch that dvd once a month.

you know at the very beginning, when shane is sitting outside drinking (duh) with victoria and a few others at some restaurant... then mid conversation, they cut to some old guy with HUGE gray chops standing a doorway? I am very proud to say that I've hung with that guy on more than one occasion. A friend of ours owns a shop in camden right around the corner from his, and the two of them are friends. what a set of chops on that fella!

gavin - 6-4-2005 at 07:55 PM

i am currently trying to grow chops like that dude
so far, so good

tireironsaint - 6-4-2005 at 08:10 PM

Man, I nearly shit myself when I saw that guy. I was all involved, tryin' to decipher Shane's drunken, toothless mumbling and then BAM! here's Cap'n Chops himself!
