Into punkrock and hardcore?

Me: My dad went on about a band called the buzzcocks all the time and how he went to school with pete shelley, intrigued by:
A) The name (buzzcocks)
B) The word punk

I went into a music store and bought a mixed tape of what i little knew would be the sound track to my life thus far.

It cost me £3.50 (I was 12) and featured uk subs,xray specs,discharge,sex pistols,The damed,Adverts,sham 69,buzzcocks etc etc.

From then on after taking it home and listening to it untill it broke i've always been hooked.

Fucking intense. My new favorite quote.

Being a born and bred outcast tends to lead you down certain alleys looking for outlets. I found music was a great comfort to me at an early age and the more "outlandish" stuff tended to interest me more and more. By the time I hit junior high I had discovered The Stooges and The Cramps not long after that. By the time I moved on up to high school I had developed an affinity for Sex Pistols, Black Flag, Big Boys, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys and so on and was that guy who was always searching for more. Still am really.

I don't remember making you a tape.:wink1:

JawnDiablo - 1-21-2010 at 06:37 PM

i first heard Sheer Terror from Gavin's sister.
so this may partially be his fault.
I never returned that tape, and some crackhead stole it off me.
thanks bud.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie planted the seeds for me. There were tons of mohicans with leather jackets hanging out in the Foot Clan's compound in that one, plus the main kid character was always wearing a Sid Vicious shirt. TMNT was sort of one of my earliest exposures to skateboards to, having come from a small town, and later down the road that just blossomed into full on interest in skating and punk rock. I'll add to that when Green Day and The Offspring blew up too, and then some rock history special series on PBS. That was the first time I actually heard the Sex Pistols. I was maybe 15 years old.

CR83 - 1-21-2010 at 09:48 PM

KISS led to Sabbath which lead me to Misfits/Skateboards and the like. All around 85-86'ish. 5th and 6th grade.

Evil Live was the first tape I had with "punk" on it. I always thought it was "Eve Alive". I'm not smart

old skatevideos, and just skaters in general, circa. 1986/87.

Never looked back.
