trying to get to houston for this

wez138 - 3-5-2010 at 01:12 PM

I've always found it strange that punks really love iron maiden,i can understand the earlier stuff that had a punk feel to it,but not the later stuff.

JawnDiablo - 3-5-2010 at 01:25 PM

i really haven't heard anything they did after 1987

Not a punk.

Sometimes people just like good bands. Regardless of what scene or genre they're supposed to fit into.

Though I guess that would be punk?

All nonsense aside...Maiden puts on a better show than just about anyone on earth...regardless of how the album may turn out.

wez138 - 3-5-2010 at 03:14 PM

Of course,it was't a dig towards people who do like them, but i see punk as a kickback to big stadium rock bands...And iron maiden are well a big stadium rock band now...

Jason the Magnificent - 3-5-2010 at 03:26 PM

Steve Harris (their bass player) has talked down that element before.

He has a quote in American Hardcore actually talking about how people have said they had a punk vibe in the early days and that's the last thing he'd want to be compared to as they were all working class kids and couldn't relate to rich kids w/ funny haircuts or something of that sort.

Venom is another metal band that's always caused that "vibe" discussion...though their early stuff was way more "punk" sounding than maiden has ever been.

JawnDiablo - 3-5-2010 at 03:37 PM

I enjoy all of the records from the self titled one up to somewhere in time.
i liked a few songs off 7th son too.
somehow i just never heard anything after that, and i am sure i have those records on my hard drive too ironicly

Jason the Magnificent - 3-5-2010 at 03:59 PM

The last album Matter of Life and Death was pretty good...but it was also a bit drawn out. The songs were very long and kind of seem to blend together. Outside of a few songs on 7th Son and No Prayer of the Dying though...everything else has been forgettable at best.

Nicko has stated in an interview that this is their fastest material in years...what that means...who knows. But Dickenson can still handle the vocals better than any of that era of vocalists (Halford sounds like one of the skeksis from Dark Crystal now) so we'll see...it could be a solid album.

Damn right! Caught them for the first time on their last tour in which they ONLY played material from the Self Titled upto Fear of the Dark. Such a solid show and was everything I had hoped to see since I was a little kid and my older brother turned me onto them.

Anyone ever hear "The one you love to hate" from Halford's solo album "Reserection"? It has him AND Bruce Dickinson on ONE track! EPIC!

morgan - 3-7-2010 at 02:57 AM

They are good and I have never seen them live. Still need to see them.

BKT.

Discipline - 3-8-2010 at 07:15 PM

I like listening to Maiden every now and then. I don't throw them on too often, but I still enjoy their stuff.

tireironsaint - 3-9-2010 at 03:45 AM

I tihnk Iron Maiden gets a bum rap being catagorized as "Cheese Metal"... The lyrics are "epic" but not in an overly cheesy way like for instance Twisted Sister.

Jason the Magnificent - 3-9-2010 at 01:45 PM

hmm...TS lyrics are kind of hard. That band is long hair Oi.

sippers - 3-9-2010 at 03:03 PM

also booted some of the best lp covers of all time.

Twisted Sister I Believe in Rock 'n' Roll Lyrics:
Check it out
I pledge allegiance to the flag
Of the united states of rock
And to the point of view
for which it stands
One music under one god
Yes, even god loves rock 'n' roll
With liberty and
justice for all lands

Every day
I work so hard
Every day
I'm dealt the cards
Every day
I'm told exactly what to do
Every day
I lose control
Every day
I rock 'n' roll
Every day
It's gonna help to see me through

I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll

Do you take this music
To be your lawfully wedded rock
To have and hold in
sickness and in health
For richer or for poorer
For better or for worse
Together until death
comes to yourself?

Every day
[ Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/Rnar ]
I work so hard
Every day
I'm dealt the cards
Every day
I'm told exactly what to do
Every day
I lose control
Every day
I rock 'n' roll
Every day
It's gonna help to see me through

I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll

Sister says:
Oh, would that my words
were written down
Would that they were
inscribed on a record
That with an iron fist
and led zeppelin
They were cut in the rock forever
But as for me, i know that
heavy metal lives
And that it will at
last stand forth upon
the dust
That i myself shall see
My own ears not
another's shall behold
it
And from my flesh i
shall see it rock
My inmost being is
consumed with longing
This is the word of the rocker

I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll
I believe in rock 'n' roll

Jason the Magnificent - 3-9-2010 at 03:17 PM

JawnDiablo - 3-9-2010 at 03:35 PM

tireironsaint - 3-9-2010 at 03:59 PM
