I got to let out a little hot air I got bottled up right now so don't mind me......
So, I'm a landlord. I rent out a total of 6 units, 4 of them in Maine, and 2 in Mass. Last month I got 3 notices, my best friend of over 15 years gave
me a week and a half fucking notice, moved out the end of March after ripping out 2 rooms of paneling, I know, who the fuck wants paneling, I offered
to paint it but he wanted to wallpaper. He got through 1 and a half rooms of wallpaper befor realizing how bad he sucks at it, not to mention, how
ugly these wallpapers were. So now I got to actually drywall these rooms to make them rentable, plus do some electrical work and prob update the
bathroom that hasn't been touched since the 60s.
The other 2 tenants are out compleatly tomorrow (April 30), 2 of these 3 tenants were my highest paying, so I now got a paycut of 65%, with a shit ton
of work that needs to get done.
I guess that's just life of a landlord, ups and downs that come with the job.
I've kinda kept this to myself, but I guess at this stage it doesn't really matter anymore (plus, like any of y'all are going to judge
). My dad has been in the joint for over 3 years now. Tomorrow, I pick him up (deal
with tenants, visit my gram, check in at probation, try to get his licence)and bring him home to live with me and meet the boyfriend that lives with
me. My dad is my best friend, but he gets on my nerves about everything, constantly questioning everthing I do with the buildings, constantly on my
back about everything I do in general. I havn't lived with him in 15 years, it's going to be very interesting....... and fucking stressful.
So yeah, between work, which is somthing that consumes my homelife, and the old man, I'm about ready to just run....... and it han't even fully
started yet.
and breath...........

it will all work out... Just scale back while you do the work on the apartments and I bet they will be filled sooner than you think.
I'm sure that things will be okay with your dad too!

That sucks. Furly, I'm gonna tell you a story about an asshole tennant in hopes that it makes you appreciate the fact he's not renting from you. His
name is Jason Messina circa 1995.
He rented this place in Everett, MA. Like your tennant, he didn't like the wall paper. But we're talking about Jay here. Rather than strip the wall
paper and put up new wall paper he just decided it would be good to paint over the wall paper. Let me give you all a moment to soak this in and think
about what could happen as a result of this. More after the break.......
So what happens, evidently, when you paint over wall paper is that the wall paper become very heavy with the added weight of paint over it. So it
peels off the walls. But it doesn't come easy. It pulled chunks of the dry wall right off the wall. I went to this apartment once and there were just
sheets upon sheets of wall paper hanging all over the place in a similar way to a peeled banana: still connected at the base but not on the rest of
the wall or in various stages of peeling. Chunks of wall and plaster everywhere.
He also had a german sheppard then that he didn't take care of or walk. So it just shit everywhere. I walked in and there was mountains of shit
everywhere. He didn't even bother cleaning it up. It was by far the most peculiar way I've ever seen anyone live. I think he ended up at this place
for only a few months and then he was out. Not sure if that was his decision or not.

stick your old man in one of the open units.
it may mean a decrease in income, but the mental health factor may be worth it.
hell, put him in the unit that needs the renovations and tell him to get to work, earn his keep.

Mark.... holy crap, as much as I love Jay, he's an ASSHOLE! The worse that I can remembering happening with one of our tenants is, about 10 years ago
my dad needed to evict someone for not paying their rent. Before the tenant left they poured chocolate sauce and ketchup up on the walls. Some people
are just assholes, this is actually why as a rule of thumb I try to rent to people 30+.
I'm actually trying to rent them to section8. a lot of people think I'm nuts for that, but guaranteed income, plus, if they loose their section8
(which is easily done with one complaining landlord) they will never be able to get any sort of housing support again, Keeps the tenants clean.
BD..... apartments are second and third floor, my dad can't do that many stairs...... motorcycles accedents have ruined his legs so he's mostly in a
wheel chair.........
I must say it's tempting to move out with my female cat and leave my dad, boyfriend, his son, and their male dog to fend for themselves.

so out of curioustiy what do places run in thsoe neck of the woods...
not that I am looking to move yet...
but I am always open to the idea of bringing the print world back to my family on the east coast
oh and don't stress...
be thankful your dad is home and everything else will work itself out

I have 3 bedroom apartments in Maine that go for $600, and 3 bedroom apartments in Mass (90 minutes away) that go for $1,200 which is actually very
fair compared to apartments that size near by. (though with no bites that may turn into $1,100 soon.
But......... the unit vacating in Maine is one of my 2 commercial units. It looks like that will be taken over by the guy who rents the other one who
has a breakfast joint. There is a doorway that connects the 2, he is planning on expanding and doing dinners also...... What this means..... I m
actually giving him use of the newly vacant side for 2 months free of charge, why? because I don't need him going broke the second he expands.......
What this also means, if this one guy's bussiness goes belly up I've got 2 vacant commercial units, and one of my apartment tenants up there is out a
job (cook).
That's when you should move on up.
