i broke out muddy waters by redman (1996) the other day, and was kinda doing the same thing
i remember when straight outta compton and eazy does it first came out too. i had the tapes
im not sure if its more depressing how long ago that shit came out, or if its more depressing how much better that shit is then rap now.
i remember when fear of a black planet came out too!
i bought the welcome to the terrordome single at music land before that shit even came out!Jason the Magnificent - 5-8-2010 at 10:10 PM

I still listen to PE's Apocalypse 91 all the time. I remember having a conversation with a hip hop kid who had no clue who KRS ONE is...JawnDiablo - 5-8-2010 at 10:58 PM
i had my son's friends in the car the other day on the way home from a baseball game, and some jerk pulled up next to us in his pimped out 93 chevy
lumina complete with giant assed mismatched rims with some mega bass shit blasting thru blown speakers shaking his bondo ladent fenders to bits. I
turn to tha back seat and say, "guys, when you get a car, don't blast the rap like that. it pisses us old heads off". spyderdog - 5-8-2010 at 11:07 PM

WU TANG is legend. THe mehtodman first TICAL cd was fucking awesome too. I jam them out periodically. Esp the 36 chambers. I remember when they broke
out in 93. I was in 11th grade.
I love rap form this era. After 1994 I could care less. With the exception of that GANG STAR cd BD dropped on us from i think 1996. That is a fucking
awesome cd. Somehting fucking changed really badly for rap around this time. Not sure what but I think it was age groups. It was no longer about being
original it was now about stupid shit and being fake. emenem(spelling) is an exception. I own nothing of his but I should. Dude, has always been
groundbreaking in my point of view. DaveMoral - 5-9-2010 at 08:09 PM

That's just it, if the kids these days don't know who KRS is they sure as hell don't know who Afrika Bambata or any of the other originators are. How
can you have a decent scene that doesn't respect the originators or even know who the fuck they are?
Same thing with punk and hardcore, especially hardcore. Alot of kids these days aren't into the originators or the second wave... they are just into
Hatebreed and think Hatebreed is where hardcore started. So we get clone after clone after clone of Hatebreed. It's pathetic.
I'll say this, I generally hate Jay-Z but I saw the guy on SNL last night with the live band backing him and all his shit sounded better.spyderdog - 5-10-2010 at 05:57 PM
i saw nelly live a few years ago by accident, and although the dudes records suck ass he had like a 30 piece band, and a ton of dancers and shit and
the energy was off the chain!! it was a totally different deal (more like a gospel/funk thing) and it was awesome!
id honestly say its one of the 10 best shows id ever seen (keep in mind for over 10 years my job was to go to shows....ive EASILY seen over 5000 live
bands)
hip hop + the right live band can pretty much save anybodies live showbarc0debaby - 5-11-2010 at 12:46 AM
Can't be beat....
The ignorance of youth is widespread today, not just music. It is insane how many current professional athletes have only the slightest idea about
the history of their sports. Its like there is so much available to people these days that they only take in what they look for. Back in the day
everyone knew who KRS and Rakim were, and everyone knew the Oscar Meyer song, etc etc just on account of their not being an over saturation of media.wez138 - 5-11-2010 at 08:40 AM

Ghostface's output post Wu-Tang on the whole smokes any other post Wu output of any other member. I love Meth as a personality but his albums have
always bored me. Tical is so overhyped. GZA started off strong but now he sounds like he's falling asleep. Cuban Lynx is solid but meh...DaveMoral - 5-11-2010 at 08:14 PM
Liquid Swords is a hot album though.Jason the Magnificent - 5-12-2010 at 05:34 AM
no doubt. any of his appearances though in the past 10ish years...he literally sounds like he'd rather take a nap.DaveMoral - 5-12-2010 at 04:48 PM
