good bad, anything, i wanna hear it. again i really dont know what im doing here so any feedback would be awesome. this is like the friendliest hardcore message ive certainly ever come across, and you all seem to be pretty supportive of each other and shit so i figured id hit you guys up with it

Murk - 5-20-2010 at 07:42 PM

looks good to me

spyderdog - 5-20-2010 at 07:43 PM

could anything be better or different or anything?

Murk - 5-20-2010 at 07:49 PM

not in my opinion.

looks like a professional CD layout to me.

Discipline - 5-20-2010 at 07:58 PM

Looks like you're going for the style of the guy who did the AF "Warriors" cd cover. It looks good. I like the artwork for the cd itself, it looks pretty cool.

The back cover looks a little bit too crowded at the bottom. I would move some of it to the inside of the liner, but then you'd have to redo that to fit it in. It's not like it's a major thing, maybe I'm just picky. Take it as you will.

spyderdog - 5-20-2010 at 08:00 PM

actually the same guy that did the AF art did ours too

and do you mean like the money at the bottom?

Discipline - 5-20-2010 at 08:27 PM

No, I meant the back cover. There's a lot of writing crammed in at the bottom.

spyderdog - 5-20-2010 at 08:49 PM

like the song titles on the back??

i can make that a smaller font easily

BDx13 - 5-20-2010 at 11:08 PM

overall, you've done a great job, sd.
couple comments. as always, just my opinion...

- the disk image is the only element i think needs to be reconsidered. what is it? does it have anything to do with the band or the album? i'd rather see you get some more distressed protester signs in there, maybe with the band name again as well. Or just mirror what's being used for the inside tray card.

- i'm not sure what Discipline is talking about - i think the back cover is well balanced. Might need to put band or label contact info at the bottom, but that's it.

- Discipline, is it the bottom of 'insert liner demo 1.jpg' you think is crowded? the thanks list? it is heavy, but it's the thanks list, so fuck it. besides, if you think i'm gonna suggest they pull me out of the list, you got another thing commin!

- the only other thing that caught my eye are the embellishments in the first panel of "front insert demo 1.jpg" - the lines before and after 'out for revenge is' and the ornaments before and after 'produced by'. You can see the black backgrounds behind the actual ornaments. are you on a mac? try using the font zapf dingbats.

Only other thought - please tell me you've laid this out with the mandatory bleed!

the disk image is the city of phoenix logo, and its missing part of one of its wings. i kind of agree that it needs a little more work(at least a band logo or something). ill see what i can do

and yeah on the back cover. when ever we get somebody to put it out well put label logos and contact stuff and legal things down there

as for the thanks, you gave me a lot of great advice man!! you deserve to be there!!

as for the embellishments, im actually surprised theres not a ton of those. i dont have a very good monitor. how do i fix that?

also, whats a mandatory bleed?....hahaha

i did it like kindergarten crayon party. i just tried to stay in the lines

BDx13 - 5-21-2010 at 12:40 AM

1. cool
2. now you're talking
3. my pleasure and thank you!
4. ultimately, that area is meant to be transparent, so you could cut out the offending backgrounds. i would use an ornamental fony like zapf dingbats to create those
5. the bleed is when your design extends slightly beyond the dimensions of the cd. if a booklet is 4.75", you usually make your design 0.125" wider all around,

tireironsaint - 5-21-2010 at 02:10 AM

I was gonna mention the disc image, but BD already did. I can understand wanting to use the city logo, but in all honesty, that thing looks horrible and doesn't fit with the nice art on everything else. The one other thing that stuck out a bit to me was that crowd shot, it's not bad, it just looks kinda awkward to me. There seems to be some weird choppy effect on it that makes it look like certain people were very poorly photoshopped into the photo or something.

well two folks not digging the disk = it needs to go away

that crowd shot isnt really that photoshopped. i had to cut out a pole and move a few things around though. but either way, ill see what i can do on that too

3 folks.

I looked at the artwork and that disc art is deffinetly what stick out like a soar thumb. Does not have the same feeling as the reast of the disc and it kinda looks like it might be slightly low in the DPI department.

I was also going to mention the bleed area as it looks like the way it is setup now you may end up with a "nice" white border around all the artwork...

XHonusWagnerX - 5-21-2010 at 08:52 AM

The disc print was the only thing that I wasnt really into either....

I mean all of the stuff under the picture of the band on the back cover.

spyderdog - 5-23-2010 at 08:34 AM

ok, i re did a bunch of it based on what you all were saying

let me know!

BDx13 - 5-23-2010 at 08:45 AM

spyderdog - 5-23-2010 at 09:02 AM

tireironsaint - 5-23-2010 at 01:18 PM

Looks much better, I do wonder what the hole in the middle of the CD is going to do to the lettering though. Looks like it may make it look like it says OUT FOR REVFNGE. While I'm sure that anyone who got the CD would know what it was supposed to say, it's the kind of thing that would drive me nuts if I was the one putting it together. Personally, I would put some space in the middle of the band logo so that OUT FOR is across the top of the disc and REVENGE is across the bottom, but that's just me.

spyderdog - 5-23-2010 at 03:24 PM

dammit

you can see though the cd to the trey card and it will work

but yeah

thats gonna drive me nuts too

:(

XHonusWagnerX - 5-25-2010 at 07:37 AM

but if you can see through some of the disc then you will see the tray card and if the print on the disc matches on the tray card then wont it look fine?

spyderdog - 5-26-2010 at 05:19 PM

im guessing thats how its gonna have to work

BDx13 - 5-26-2010 at 11:05 PM

the disc is a big improvement and if you're going with a clear tray, i think that'll look fine.
