Danzig's new album

Mark Lind - 6-21-2010 at 11:25 AM

Who else got it? What do ya think?

gavin - 6-21-2010 at 11:33 AM

i cant imagine it being good....whats it like?

Mark Lind - 6-21-2010 at 11:50 AM

It's definitely better than anything he's done in years. It sort of sounds like a career retrospective type of album (just the Danzig years, no Misfits or Samhain). There's stuff that sounds like it came off Circle of Snakes but there's also stuff that sounds like it came off How the God's Kill or Danzig IV. If you like any of his stuff then I'd recommend it.

gavin - 6-21-2010 at 11:52 AM

i like the first 4 records...havent listened to em in years but i did like em
esp. the 4th one
really liked it a lot at the time
wonder if it holds up at all

Mark Lind - 6-21-2010 at 12:00 PM

See I didn't like the 4th one when it was released and that's where he lost me. I came back to his music like the prodigal son about 5 years ago and the 4th one had aged well and hooked me then. So maybe it's worth another listen to see if the same rings true for you?

gavin - 6-21-2010 at 12:01 PM

im gonna
i like that cant speak song a lot
or did at the time
we'll see if it's still the case

Monkey_Julius_BoWaffle - 6-21-2010 at 12:26 PM

The new one is definitely the best one since IV....I mean EASILY. It's not bad, not bad at all. The production is a tad muddy and not the greatest, but in a way, it kinda works with the overall vibe of the album. And the second track, The Revengeful or whatever it's called sucks mainly due to shitty Tommy Victor's overabuse of those damn pinch harmonics. I HATE pinch harmonics and Victor is almost like a Zakk Wylde Jr. at times. God I wish Danzig had a better guitar player on this and it would probably be that much better. But considering who it is and considering the fact that Danzig has been pretty mediocre since IV, this was actually a pleasant surprise IMO. After only 2 spins, I would give it about a 7 out of 10, which is not bad, not bad at all.....

I think you just hit on something that's probably been the problem all along. John Christ was a viruoso guitarist. That's probably what's been missing all these years. I've never really been able to put my finger on it. The riffs are still cool. The vocals are still cool. But there has been something missing and I bet that's it. Jerry Cantrell played on V but that album was so .... fucked with.... that his playing wouldn't have been able to shine.

I did like VI though. I think that one is underrated.

Discipline - 6-21-2010 at 01:44 PM

I love every Danzig album except Danzig V. I thought that was licked balls. VI is seriously underrated. I'm looking forward to checking out the new one.

XnMeX - 6-21-2010 at 02:10 PM

that one was a stand out for me on that record.

JawnDiablo - 6-21-2010 at 07:25 PM

I haven't really checked out anything since Danzig 4.
I heard that blackacidevil thing and didn't care for it one bit.
that's probably the last time i checked it out.
I have this one friend who has a man crush or something on Danzig.
buys every damn thing he can get his hands on

clevohardcore - 6-21-2010 at 10:19 PM

Am I missing something? I hated all the songs I heard from 1994 on.... Seriously it all sounded like a cheesy nin cover band.

BDx13 - 6-21-2010 at 10:29 PM

danzig 4 i did not like.
everything before that, including black aria, definitely.
mike inhuman was saying the same thing - if you're a fan of 1-3 to check it out.
haven't yet, but will do.
is there a stream somewhere?

thank you, sir.

Mark Lind - 6-21-2010 at 11:56 PM

I saw his live show tonight. Someone needs to stop the guitar player from playing so many pitch harmonics. Other than that, they sounded EXACTLY like the old records all the way down to the drum fills and guitar fills. Just too many bends from the records turned into pitch harmonics. The set list mix was excellent. The new stuff fit right in like the old.

Doyle's band opened and I was let down that they didn't jam out some Misfits tunes at the end.

clevohardcore - 6-22-2010 at 01:02 AM

You know its not that bad. I cna't speak for the other stuff after 94 but this is good. I listened to the entire record too.

BKT - 6-22-2010 at 11:51 AM

Just checked it out on AOL. Its streaming in full. It is terrible.

BKT.

Murk - 6-22-2010 at 08:16 PM

songs are good, but the production/mix licks balls.

Jason the Magnificent - 6-22-2010 at 08:48 PM

Listened to the first 2 songs...is the guitar player playing an Atari? Why does it sound like that? Danzing sound surprisingly good...but the music...

barc0debaby - 6-22-2010 at 08:55 PM

I thought the vocals were awful. It sounded like that shopping list parody.

spyderdog - 6-22-2010 at 10:29 PM

regardless of how good this new album may or may not be i cant back anything this guy does

suposed to be a tombstone.

BDx13 - 6-25-2010 at 11:21 AM

Just giving it a first listen now.

Right off the bat, i don't like to cover - all these comic inspired covers look goofy.

Next, pinch harmonics is that winey, strung out guitar sound right? Yeah, a little too much of that.

His vocals sound really good on some songs, others not so much. The first song starts strong, but about a minute in, there's this weird collision with just too many sounds. My ears don't like it. On A Wicked Night would be so much cooler if it was just him singing w/o effects. Despite the ridiculous name, Juju Bone has some tremendous, classic danzig crooning near the end of the song.

I'll listen to it again sometime soon, but for me, i'll stick with the first three.

Mark Lind - 6-25-2010 at 11:25 AM

RE: pitch harmonics.

In the song Twist of Cain, the riff goes "da dum da dum da dum, (pitch harmonic) dum da dum da dum". haha

^^^^^^^ That video makes me NOT want to buy the new cd used. Props again and again to DAnnyNSK punching him.

Colin - 7-8-2010 at 10:48 PM

I listened to half of the first song the other day, not bad, just sounded like it had already been done. I heard a few funny Danzig stories lately, one friend said she saw him & his airbrushed-on abs were running down his belly by the end of the show. Another friend said he has a mutual friend who played with Danzig, & after crashing at his house that had halls lined with alternating elvis portraits & mirrors, Danzig was running naked through his yard with his pack of wolves he owns.....don't know if it was true, but it was a good laugh
