when organizing your music...the word THE

JawnDiablo - 6-26-2010 at 09:57 AM

Just wondering,
I know some of you may be as gay as I am about organizing their music files.
I just went thru a bunch of folders that had the word THE before the band name.
such as :
The Sex Pistols
The Skatelites
The Bad Brains
The Bad Vibes.
I took the word THE out becasue I felt it made it ...well more ...better.
The word THE had been getting on my nerves.
It is now gone.
do any of you do this?
there were just too many folders in alphabetic order by the word THE.
then again, it is clear that my mind is on the fritz lately.

I had The in front for years but earlier this year I decided to change it. With my CD's I always ignored it so it made sense to change my mp3's to match, so now I have Offspring, The or Black Crowes, The. Definitely feels better and looks nicer.

when a band uses THE on their album covers, then I use it but if the word THE is usually just added in, I dont use it.

example...

The Misfits are not actually The Misfits, they are MISFITS, but everyone calls them The Misifts so I use just MISFITS

The Clash is actually The Clash so I use THE CLASH

The Ramones are like The Misfits it only says RAMONES on LP covers so I use RAMONES

exception to my rule...

The Bad Brains, even though it always just says Bad Brains it seems like a lot of people (myself included) call them The Bad Brains so I use THE BAD BRAINS

This is my exact reasoning dudes.
My exact reasoning.
I mean "The who" can only be as "the who".
But yes MISFITS is a clear example of my reasoning.

I think that I Might do it a little different than I first said I did. I think that I kind of go with how I say the name in my head.

like....

RAMONES
MISFITS
THE WHO
THE BAD BRAINS
THE BAD VIBES
SEX PISTOLS
DESCENDENTS
THE BEATLES

I also just noticed that I have songs under BRUISERS and under THE BRUISERS... gotta fix that!

Honus did you break edge?

My Zune fixes this nicely... If it is listed as "The Ducky Boys" it will show up on my alphabetical artist list under "D" but will show up as "The Ducky Boys". :D

I win!

For my cd's, I just pretend that "the" isn't there and go by the first letter in the band name. On I tunes I don't care.

clevohardcore - 6-26-2010 at 10:10 PM

I do not include it but some names are not the same without it. Record stores never really use it so....

NEVER! I'm just crazy!

This has always bugged me. I just wrote an app recently that's related to band lists and one of the first things I did was set it up to ignore "the" when alphabetizing.
