So you just turned your first EP for Thorp (Records). What can you tell me about From Heartache to Hatred?
The record is kinda like a testimonial of my life. Like I have all these great friends and stories, good times and bad times, that I wanted to chronicle and why not do it through punk rock and hardcore music, where I met all these people and all these stories came from? I'm at a point in my life where I feel really good about things that are happening around me, but I keep memories really close by so that I don't forget the bad times. The actual title for the record, "From Heartache to Hatred" came from a good friend of mine. She had said to me once, "Shane, you go from heartache to hatred in less than 60 seconds". She's kinda right about that and I immediately thought that this would be a good title for the record we were writing. It just seemed to go well with the subject matter that was layered throughout the entire record. When we first started putting pen to paper for the songs, it just seemed to flow as memories came flooding back. I thought a lot about my family, my friends that had passed away, friends that were locked up, people who I love and people who I hate. There's a little humor in some of the songs too, it's not all tough guy rantings. The song punk rock princess is one of those songs that makes me laugh every time I hear it because of how ridiculous that time in my life was. All in all, I feel like we made a really good record that can stand on its own and not be easily compared to, or lumped into any certain style of punk or hardcore, it really has a little bit of everything.
