While in Indiana last month on a family trip, I took the opportunity to stock up on a bunch of beers I had never heard of. I was looking for
offerings from smaller breweries, preferably in the midwest, but I pretty much bought anything I hadn't seen at home. Compared to PA, where you can
only buy by the case in a state store or sixes in restaurants that offers carry out, it's nice to be able to buy in every food store. Actually, most
of what I picked up came from Walmart, where even the beer selection gets 'roll back' treatment!
Between luggage for four people and all the crap we hauled back from grandma's house, I wasn't sure it would all fit in the trunk of the Sonata, but
that thing never disappoints.
Here's what we're looking at:
- Bell's Amber Ale
- Bell's Oberon Ale
- Bell's Two Hearted Ale
- Dundee Craft Pack
- Leinenkugel Summer Sampler
- New Belgium Craft Pack
- Shiner Bock
- Upland Wheat Ale
So... are you familiar with any of these?
Any immediate standouts?
Any guesses as to favorites?

I like the Shiner Bock of course and the Dundee Honey Brown too.

i've only heard of dundee and leinenkugel. dundee is usually super cheap (compared to similar beers) and much better than you expect given what you
paid. not fantastic, but usually pretty damn good overall, even if it was normal price. leinenkugel i've had on super sale at well's liquor in
b-more (BD, make a quick stop next time you're there... place usually has something or 3 that you haven't tried on sale for like $3-4). been a long
time, but i remember their beer being better than mass-produced ann.-busch et al but nothing great. nice to have on a hot day, but probably not worth
normal microbrew prices.

ah shit, i forgot about the shiner bock. they had it at a restaurant i worked at when i was 15-17. thought it was really good back then, and i
hadn't developed the fantastic beer palette that i have now. i'm sure the texas guys love this stuff. seems like it's what you would buy there when
lone star just ain't fancy enough.

I work at a liquor store, we sell the New Belgium, which are all pretty good beers, the Shiner Bock, haven't had it in a while but it's good, & we
sell the 2 of the Leinenkugel's beers as well, the Sunset Wheat & the Summer Shandy

Love Shiner, New Belgium is pretty damn good too, I've have the Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy before, tasted kinda like lemonade to me.

The Bells is solid...but Two Hearted is a bit hoppy if I remember your tastes, I love it though, but interested to hear what you think. Oberon is one
of the best American Wheats IMO...the amber isnt really my thing, nor ambers in general. The New Belgium stuff is ok too...surprised you don't have
that by you? I like that 1554 a lot but the Mothership Wit is horrendous.
