Check the link.
No more shows at the Khyber after this month.
Probably my favorite bar to see live music

Well that sucks. I have seen some kickass shows there. That is the first and only venue I ever saw Joe Coffee play and the size of the place made it a blast.

Plus I remember getting hit with a garbage can during an impromptu Bad Luck 13 reunion in 2006.

one of my oldest dearest friends has bartended there forever. i'd go down just to see the guy.
i seen Joe Coffee there every time they played there and like you said TONS of great shows.

Was he the guy who did a few songs with the Dramacidals at the Joe Coffee show in January of 2009?

Toronto lost one of its best places for shows this year. I couldn't even begin to count the number of shows I went to there. I hate when the good places are gone.

nah Tommy wouldn't be doing no songs.

aside from that, he texted me tonight and called bullshit on this.
he says it's just for a month or so, so I really may have jumped the shark on this one.

but all bs aside, I hope it is bs

BDx13 - 7-29-2010 at 10:58 PM

love the club, hate the neighborhood.
hopefully they'll keep doing shows.

Johnny Brenda's and North Star are decent venues, but have their issues. JB's feels too fancy, too club like with the velvet ropes and bouncers and measured shots and being clean and all. North Star has a lot going for it (easy access off 76, full restaurant, good, cheap bar), but there is NO DANCING (WTF?!?!) and it's in an absolute crap neighborhood. Last time I was there, EVERY car on the block I parked on had its windows smashed.

The Khyber is a rock club. It's dirty, no one gives a fuck what you do, and the booze is strong and cheap. Yeah, parking is a bitch and the people that frequent that neighborhood are just...wow, but it's worth it.

I am hoping that this is BS.

I only ever saw one show at North Star and it was Street Dogs/Ducky Boys in December of 2006, I hated the venue and the bouncers seemed to be extra dickish.

Big Bop?

Discipline - 7-30-2010 at 09:04 AM

Yup. It's being turned into a furniture store or something.

gavin - 7-30-2010 at 02:28 PM

word is closing down for a month
then reopening

BDx13 - 7-30-2010 at 02:46 PM

the whole venue is closing down, like for refurbishing?
or just closing down as in no shows?

either way, someone's gotta do something about that pisser.

gavin - 7-30-2010 at 03:05 PM

no shows for a month
then reopening having shows again
that's the word anyway
who knows
fuck old city anyway

BDx13 - 7-30-2010 at 03:59 PM

definitely fuck old city, but i'd still hate to see the venue go.

JawnDiablo - 7-30-2010 at 04:14 PM

I also hat old city.
always liked the Khyber though.
Loved Upstairs at Nicks as well back in the day.

JawnDiablo - 7-30-2010 at 04:15 PM

so the city paper are just a bunch of cunts then for causing an uproar in my apartment.
jerks they are.
