What is it exactly. I've heard the name but never seen any.

BDx13 - 8-11-2010 at 06:16 PM

Falafel is on the menu in my house about once a week.
Dig it.

Absolutely love falafel. There's an incredible Lebanese joint 2 min down the road from me. Incredible falafels, along with the best tabouli in town. Making me hungry just writing this.....

Love falafel. Kinda surprised so many of you guys are unfamiliar. It's a middle eastern and mediterranean deal, little fried balls of ground up garbanzo beans and spices. Most places serve it wrapped in a pita with lettuce, tomato and tatziki sauce, which is a delicious yogurt based sauce. There's actually an awesome Egyptian place here in town that has family recipes from the owner's family from Egypt and they make some amazing falafel.

well apparently I had it before and didn't remember becasue I was actually in the one place I looked up like 18 years ago in Philly....fuck I'm getting old when I can say shit like that.
so we're going to hit it up on our next free weekend.
she bought a falafel kit thingy at trader joes today on a whim.
tasty and filling.

BDx13 - 8-12-2010 at 10:13 AM

yeah, i'm surprised more of you aren't familiar.

that's one of the great things about living in a place like nyc...you've got all these amazing food options literally on every block. ug, thainking about it TOTALLY makes me want meat truck.

Murk - 8-12-2010 at 08:19 PM

i never get tired of falafels!!!

tireironsaint - 8-12-2010 at 11:29 PM

This inspired me today, got a veggie platter from the place I mentioned in here yesterday. The platter includes three falafel balls, fresh made pita, two dolmas (fucking love dolmas) tabouli, hummus, feta, marinated eggplant, olives, and some lettuce and tomato. Exactly what I needed today.

BDx13 - 8-13-2010 at 12:30 AM

my kinds think baba ganoush is the funniest thing ever.

tireironsaint - 8-13-2010 at 12:49 AM

Fell in love with baba ganoush when I worked in a jewish deli. When it's done right, that shit is amazing, when it's done wrong it tastes, looks, and feels like cardboard that's been soaked in dirty rainwater for a week.

stateofdisgrace - 8-13-2010 at 11:41 AM

didn't get falafel last night....bummed. :grind:

clevohardcore - 8-13-2010 at 05:43 PM

Falafal is awesome. Greek restaurant called Aladdins brings it with that stuff. So good.
