Olde Tymers in Hardcore

XHonusWagnerX - 8-26-2010 at 12:04 PM

I was looking up birthdays for people in bands to see how old some of the guys that are still 'active' are and thought it was interesting....

Lemmy 65
Lee Ving 60
Marky Ramone 58
Chuck Dukowski 56
Glenn Danzig 55
H.R. 54
Johnny Rotten 54
Jello Biafra 52
Earl Hudson 52
Pat Smear 51
Jerry Only 51
Dr. Know 51
Henry Rollins 49
Darryl Jenifer 49
Tom Araya 49
Dez Cadena 49
Ian MacKaye 48
Choke 47
Roger Miret 46
King Buzzo 46
John Joseph 48
Harley Flanagan 43
Walter Schreifels 41
Keith Morris 57
Bobby Steel 44
Greg Hetson 50
Dicky Barret 46
Brian Baker 45
Dave Brockie 47
Steve Risteen 43
Jaime Sciarappa 49
Jimmy Gestapo 45
Tesco Vee 54 (I think)

I think the Olde Tymer award goes to Lee Ving because even though Fear doesnt play that often, hes still playing shitty small places compared to Lemmy or Marky and hes pretty damn old!

Anyone know how old Stigma is?

panzerkreuzer - 8-26-2010 at 01:11 PM

stigma is born in 1955, so he´s 54. i think his birthday is in december. i remember he celebrated his 50th in essen on stage during the persistance tour.
what about kevin seconds? 7 seconds celebrate their 30 th band anniversary this or next year.

XHonusWagnerX - 8-26-2010 at 01:12 PM

I couldnt find Kevin Seconds birthday either, but I would guess 48 or 49
.

it already feels weird at times being at shows at 36. and while i fully intend to STILL be at shows when i'm Dukowski's age, i expect it will feel that much more weird!

Dave - 8-26-2010 at 01:43 PM

its like being surrounded by a bunch of kids whenever i hit a show now...

lifeisabitch - 8-26-2010 at 02:08 PM

so is it too late for me to start a band, I'm older and wiser

I'll second that.

never!

Johnny_Whistle - 8-26-2010 at 02:17 PM

I don't think it's ever too late. I joined the Gobshites at age 39. That's a 16 year gap between bands, my friend. Rock on.

Dave - 8-26-2010 at 03:12 PM

yeah, i'd rock a band again, if i had the opportunity.....it's been a few years now, miss playing.

Colin - 8-26-2010 at 03:37 PM

you forgot Charlie Harper of UK Subs/Urban Dogs. 66 years old, born in May of '44. Still fuckin' playing too

lifeisabitch - 8-26-2010 at 03:49 PM

37 and looking to start a band...
I got guitar or bass covered... I can write riffs for days...
backing gang vocals but can not sing to save my life
I'd like to be somewhere between Motor head, and minor threat, slayer and sick of it all... a lil metal with a lot of good punk hardcore
I will never find anyone in NOLA

ShawnRefuse - 8-26-2010 at 04:35 PM

I told you and Josh we could start one if you move up here.

Yep!

And I wouldn't class myself as a fan but I caught one of his sets in Blackpool last year and I can honestly say he's still got it.

XHonusWagnerX - 8-26-2010 at 06:57 PM

MOTORTHREAT sounds good!

lifeisabitch - 8-26-2010 at 07:30 PM

I got a friend that can play drums or maybe I can

tireironsaint - 8-26-2010 at 11:49 PM

No John Brannon on the list? I found one thing that says he's 47, but I'm not gonna spend too much time digging for proof.

Dave - 8-27-2010 at 08:21 AM

i saw UK Subs a year or so ago, and it was awesome...

I couldnt really find any of the Detroit guys. Even Tesco Vee is a guess based on when he graduated college.

JawnDiablo - 8-27-2010 at 10:34 AM

Duane Peters has to be as old as some of those above

BDx13 - 8-27-2010 at 10:48 AM

DP turned 49 in June.

spyderdog - 8-29-2010 at 06:12 AM

this list really says something cool to me about hardcore. i got friends in all kinds of more mainstream bands, and they know full well that the shelf life of their scenes in often times only a few years. its cool to see that people can do this 30 + years and still be putting out good relevant shit. really says a lot about the staying power of hardcore vs a lot of other genres

JawnDiablo - 8-29-2010 at 12:28 PM

as long as misfits of society exist punk rock shall remain.
