I hope this hits torrent websites today.

wez138 - 9-8-2010 at 10:59 AM

To elaborate Paddy Considine the lead in dead man's shoes is in This is England 86! If you ain't seen dead man's shoes then you really must.....Considine is one amazing actor He's like a modern day nicholson/liotta.......But Northern English. The story line so far has been solid.....Bouncing back from character to character but hell of a lot more in-depth. Plus the music Ain't bad too. I heart LoL..........But don't tell my missus!

mattybar - 9-8-2010 at 11:44 AM

just found out it's co-written with the guy who wrote Skins.
I haven't even watched it yet but this has instantly made me lose interest.

This is England 86 passed the test. I'm looking forward to seeing the next episodes.

gavin - 9-9-2010 at 02:45 AM

loved it

mattybar - 9-9-2010 at 04:55 AM

i thought it was totally wack.
just completely dull sitcom drama.
the leader of the bike gang was comedy gold but other than that it was shit.
hope it gets better as that kinda pissed on the legacy of the movie for me really.

mattybar - 9-9-2010 at 05:32 AM

also, i am kinda curious as to how the two older guys who played full-on obnoxious nationalist cunts in the film are suddenly mates with everyone else.
i'm guessing they will explain what happened with Combo and so on.
i'm definitely curious to see how it unfolds and i'm not really sure what i'm expecting but that first episode was a real disappointment.
the scene with Milky and Lol on the rooftop for instance... that was just terrible.

mattybar - 9-9-2010 at 10:03 AM

speaking of TIE the film, I was just reading this interview with Shane Meadows and he said this about Combo's character which i found quite interesting.

http://www.film4.com/features/article/shane-meadows-on-this-...

"Stephen Graham - the amount of people that have spoken to me and said I felt really sorry for his character, that probably is one of the most rewarding things. I thought I was going to have to come out with a shield, defending and deflecting, and trying to convince people that I wasn't a racist. When Stephen's on the bed at the end, looking at Milky, he's not getting upset with him because he's black, he's getting upset with him because he's fucking black as well. Stephen wrote a back story for Combo's character, and Combo's father was mixed race. But he's never been able to admit it. None of the characters knew, but everyone involved on the film knew that Stephen was going into it from a mixed race background.

So Combo's antagonism is motivated by something deeper than blind racial prejudice.
He thinks that Milky is going to end up like him. Combo's brother and sister were darker skinned, but he was born looking, to all intents and purposes, white. But half of his family, his Jamaican side, he never seemed to fit in with it. He got into trouble when he was a kid, went to borstal, and got adopted by a white family. So in his head, he's thinking Jamaican men just leave their wives. He thinks that this kid Milky is not going to have a family. You never know as a director whether people are going to pick up on it. If the power of that doesn't work, you haven't got an ending, as you're trying to end the film, literally, in a tiny flat."

BDx13 - 9-9-2010 at 10:19 AM

it's been a while since i watched the movie, but right before combo attacks milky, isn't milky talking about what a large family he has and how well everyone how well he gets along? i remember thinking that part of combo's anger seemed to be coming from jealousy.

I found it more of a "large family=invading my country" kind of anger.

gavin - 9-9-2010 at 12:50 PM

i thought it ruled

Is that pirates bay pretty safe? I heard some scary shit about these torrent sites..

BDx13 - 9-11-2010 at 11:49 AM

i don't have the faintest ides how torrents work.
i can download a massive mov or mpg file from a sendshare type site, but that's it!

random - 9-11-2010 at 11:58 AM

I haven't watched it yet, but you can watch it online (no download necessary) here: http://www.megavideo.com/?v=AYJV7DDU. After you click, you'll probably get a Party Poker ad that pops up in a new tab. Close it, and then click on the same place on the Megavideo, and the stream should start.

I'll be watching it later tonight or tomorrow. Just got my laptop back from being repaired, and the one I was using in the meantime was running slow as fuck when trying to stream video.

You just need a BitTorrent client (like mu-torrent, www.utorrent.com) and a link for the file. You can often see the "health" of the torrent when you find a link. More recent and/or lots of seeders are what you want. Seeders have the full file, while leechers only have part. If you have a good link, downloading the torrent is super fast. If not, it can take forever.

Thats fucking great! Thank you!!!

newbreedbrian - 9-12-2010 at 01:02 PM

I enjoyed it, it'll be interesting to see where they go from here. I'm betting on some more flashbacks for sure. I was thinking Woody was going either mod or maybe suedehead more than soulboy. I liked the whole thing about Woody's dad being an ex mod, pretty cool storyline there, as well as overall going a bit more into individual character's background/lives. Can't wait for the next one!

Actress Vicky McClure 'numb' after winning Bafta
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-1350092...

An actress from Nottingham said she felt "numb" with shock after winning a Bafta for best actress.

Vicky McClure played Lol in the Channel 4 drama This is England '86.

Ms McClure, who has only recently left her office job, beat Anna Maxwell Martin, Natalie Press and Juliet Stevenson to the award.

She said: "There was always a chance [of winning] but never in a million years did I expect that to happen."

"This is all so new to me," added Ms McClure. "I just hope it brings some really interesting and fun work. I think it opens a few more doors."

'Vibrant and focussed'
Vicky McClure was born in Nottingham in 1983.

She was a student at Nottingham's Television Workshop where Hollywood actress Samantha Morton started her career.

Ian Smith, the workshop's director, met Ms McClure when she was 12 years old.

"Vicky was a vibrant and focussed youngster from the early days," said Mr Smith.

"Vicky has an instinct for performance, she always had. She absorbs the role and connects with it 100%."

Vicky McClure will return as Lol in This Is England '88, broadcast date to be confirmed
Director Shane Meadows first cast Ms McClure as Lol in his film This Is England, in 2006.

Her part was small as the film focussed on the character of Shaun, played by Thomas Turgoose.

However, when the TV spin-off, This is England '86, was commissioned, Meadows gave Ms McClure the drama's major storyline.

As Lol, she dealt with issues such as incest, rape and murder.

"It's been such a journey for me," said the actress. "It's not come easy. I've worked hard for it.

"Everybody has been so supportive and they've believed in me."

Despite winning such a prestigious award, Ms McClure said she was determined not to forget the city she was born in.

"I'm not moving from Nottingham, it's where I'm born and bred," she said. "It's a city I'm very proud of."
