someone help me? (designers etc.)

I'm thinking about getting a varsity jacket with custom lettering on the back. I got all the info about letter sizing, but the site that I might get the jacket from doesnt have a program set up so you can see what it would look like. I'm concerned about how big the arch of letters across the top will be (I want an arch, but not a horseshoe).

The letters that they sew on the jacket are 3" tall and depending on the letters they are about 1.5"-2" wide. The size chart says that the "Chest" of the jacket is 52"-52" so I THINK that means that the back of the jacket would be about 1/2 that from shoulder to shoulder right?

Anyway, what I want to see is how the letters will look with
RHODE ISLAND in an arch across the top, STRAIGHT in a straight line under that and EDGE again in a straight line under the word STRAIGHT.

Can anyone that knows design (and math) help me out?

I want it to look like these, but as you can see the one that says Massachusetts looks really akward. I know Rhode Island is long, but can it fit without looking stupid?

If you want an arch and not a horseshoe, you're gonna need to use small letters.
Massachusetts only has one more character than Rhode Island, so it's gonna be long/big.

That third photo you posted works, but it's no where near as strong (in my opinion) as the first (Boston).
Could always do Rhode and Island on separate lines.

You could also just say Pawtucket or Providence or something. I mean, do you really care what the skinheads in Little Compton are doing? :bouncing:

Also, I think BD's idea of the two separate lines is good.

You might want to try doing Rhode on top and Island on bottom in an arch, kind of like how a lot of MC cuts do it, like here:

Do the "Straight Edge" part in straight letters on one or two lines in the middle.

If you go this route, you might want to get a nicer embroidered patch that has something a bit more, even if it's just "STRAIGHT EDGE" sitting on top of a bigger X in the background.

Actually, that Super Death Star one illustrates what I was trying to describe. Do Rhode on top where SuperDeath is and Island on bottom where Star is. The guns on the image cross over giving you a sort of X, and you can put STRAIGHT EDGE on top of the big X.

I dont know... all good ideas, but I'm just very partial to the classic look of those other jackets. I also like longer words so RI SXE isnt really the look I'm hoping for. damn... decisions!!

I measured my Slapshot jacket today and I'm gonna try and see how stuff looks.

last thing I sewed was probably a Megadeth logo on a jean jacket in 1989! I'm not gonna spend that much on a jacket and try and sew it myself!

Honus...there has to be some shop in your area that does embroidery like this for locals colleges/HS's...why not just take a jacket there and see what letter sizes they have and how they fit...
