Anyone ever done this? I have thought about doing it but have never known anyone that has done it. Seems like a fun way to help a kid in need out.

never have. Thought about it myself. But then I don't think I could commit properly. I am always doing too much.

If you have the time it could change a kid's life for the better.

i know a bunch of girls that do this. they are all HUGE train wrecks and i think its been really good for them in all honesty. im sure the kids benefit a lot too. one girl in particular that i know stopped stripping and doing cam porn because she didnt want to be a bad example for her little sister. that decision pretty much totally turned her life around. shes in college and shit now and is like a totally different person

But to be serious, I am thinking of doing this. Sounds like a fun time and I had a real big brother that was never really there for me. The irony of it is is that he had actually gotten a Big Brother thru BBBS. I guess he didn't get the point that HE was supposed to be the Big Brother.

I've known a couple people that have done this and they said it was one of the hardest things they had done, but one of the most rewarding as well.

I'm a huge fan of volunteering. I tried to become a big sister when I was straight out of highschool, but got denied. Looking back I can understand why, but at the time I was bummed.

After that idea was gone I took a volunteer course on teaching English as a second language, did that for a couple years then couldn't keep up with it because of things going on in my homestead.

Almost 2 years ago I took a course and started doing hospice volunteer. I LOVE it. It's the most rewarding thing I've ever done. Over the last couple weeks I took the siting vigil training to sit with people as they are actively dying. I got my first call today but had to turn it down since I need to go to a meeting at my work.

I commend anyone who will go the extra mile to help someone in need. We all have our own shit to deal with, but to me, helping someone else who needs the gift you got, and making someone smile on a really shitty day is the best reward out there.

Plus Monty, you are just a big kid yourself (I actually mean that as a huge compliment) this is SUCH a great thing for you to do.

Not quite the same but i been doing a saturday or two a month for Habitat for Humanity and I like it, i work in an office all week so its nice to be able to build stuff. Even better when its a demo day and i get to destroy stuff.

Do you need to have "skills" to do that? I know how to use a hammer and measuring tape but nothing "official" to back it up. I LOVE building stuff and LOVE destroying stuff so...

EDIT: Just checked out the site. I might have to look into doing that as well.
