new song

I mostly lurk these days given my schedule, but I meant to give this a listen a few days ago and never got around to it. Finally did.

To give a backhanded compliment which is itself a backhanded compliment to myself, it's a bit too well-done for my tastes. I like it, but I like it in the way I like classical music... it's very good, technically proficient, and I enjoy listening to it, but there's something missing that prevents me from forming a connection with it. For lack of a reasonable way of explaining it, there's some sort of authenticity that's lacking, which is my fancy way of saying that it somehow just seems too polished for me. That said, I'd buy the EP when it comes out and would enjoy it, but a big part of that is knowing that Brit, Mark, and Cannata were behind it.

All that being said, I can appreciate this as an extra step in evolving beyond Sinners and Saints. S&S managed to move beyond punk rock and hardcore while still maintaining the same authenticity, so I could still connect with it. Mark's solo stuff does the same, but went even further in that direction. Brit's music goes a step beyond, where I can still appreciate it, but it somehow crossed over into that territory that I just can't connect with... it's part of a world I've never quite fit into.

So, the backhanded compliment to me is that it's too good for me.

All that being said... when you guys (and gal) break through and become millionaire rock stars - like we all know can and likely will happen - don't forget us little people.
