Nice! Never had a chance to try that one yet. I love me a big Imperial stout. Have you tried the Oud Beersel or any other lambics yet BD? Now that's a shock the first time :shocked2: L-O-V-E me some lambics.

PA is on the map man.
tons of great stuff available all over.

BDx13 - 11-8-2010 at 11:47 AM

juan, the food there is quite good and reasonably priced.

lemme know when you're ready.

vg, when we moved here from brooklyn i was bummed on the lack of dining diversity. still am, actually. we have drive a good 30 minutes if we want thai or indian or japanese. but the number of brewpubs that have opened over the past few years has been a huge plus. we have a number of places now with good food at a decent prices and killer beer lists.

JawnDiablo - 11-8-2010 at 01:26 PM

We finally have a good local spot here.
http://2312garrett.com/
it's my go to place when I head out for a few.
Constantly changing beers on draft and bottled.

Jason the Magnificent - 11-8-2010 at 02:01 PM

It's a brave new world. Places everywhere are starting to fall in line and give people more options than your typical fizzy yellow water.

This place is literally a 25 minute walk from my front door:

These place are a 30 minute drive on side streets in either direction:

http://www.beermenus.com/cities/chicago/bars/bavarian-lodge

and if I want to travel in Chicago or further into the burbs there's a good 2 dozen more.

BDx13 - 11-8-2010 at 04:22 PM

i'm sure we all noticed the fact that the first spot is within walking distance!

that's a great site, too. juan's 2312 is listed, but only one of my local spots is on there:

BDx13 - 11-8-2010 at 04:27 PM

also, juan and philly peeps, have you been to monk's?
http://www.monkscafe.com

i was there two weeks ago and threw down a few glasses of Tripel Karmeliet w/ some frog legs and mussels!

Tripel Karmeliet
Blond, robust, smooth, and fruity three grain top fermented beer. Brewed with pride and patience after Karmeliet tradition with wheat, oats and barley. 100% natural. Has been brewed at Van Steenberge for Brewery Bosteels for some time until recently. "Karmeliet" is Belgian for "Carmel"... It's root beer and rocket fuel's love child. Highly carbonated, very nice head. Aroma vaguely smells of oranges, and coriander. The taste is sweet/yeast taste, and pressed oranges, with a perfectly balanced Belgian taste.

Monk's is a place that I have known of for 13 years and have heard many great things about but have never been there.
It is one of those place that is very popular and is always packed during regular bar hours.
I heard it is best to hit it on an off day like say a Tuesday afternoon.

JawnDiablo - 11-8-2010 at 04:58 PM

I never had frog legs.
I am curious.
That place in 30ths st station has a Crocodile dish that I am wanting to go back and try.

Jason the Magnificent - 11-8-2010 at 06:02 PM

D, tell your places to get on that list...easy to maintain and more and more bars are on their everyday.

Juan...they basically taste like dark meat chicken...but maybe not as fatty.

JawnDiablo - 11-9-2010 at 07:57 AM

It's now a mission.
I need to make it to Monk's and these other wonderful places.
I love beer.
I love going somewhere and trying a bunch of new stuff.
So many options these days.
Going with Porters lately since the weather changed.

newbreedbrian - 11-9-2010 at 04:28 PM

Went to Monk's when we were in Philly last month. Fantastic food and beer, really enjoyed my visit. Had a Saison Dupont on tap and a bottle of Cantillon Monk's Cafe Gueuze (!!!!!!!!). You guys have no idea how lucky youz are down there.
