Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Merry Thorpsmas! (Secret Santa)

XnMeX - 11-13-2010 at 06:20 PM

Ok, so here is the thread where the Secret Santa info will be. I have a list of people from the other thread that showed some interest. Hit me up with a PM (I will clear out my box) to confirm you wanna do the exchange.

People invovled in the exchange:

XnMeX
XHonusWagnerX
Vanilla Gorilla
lifeisabitch
sentrand
Furly
tireironsaint
morgan
ChadBeantown
REV.PAULIE
ShawnRefuse
BD
thedog

We need to work out a guideline of the ammount to spend. I say we set an ammount ($10-15?) for people to plan around.

Also, when you send over your confirmations send over some LIKES / DISLIKES such as (just for example)

LIKES: Black Flag, Oakland Raiders, The A-Team.
DISLIKES: Lester Green ;), Taco Bell, Nintendo Games.

Any other ideas, post em' up!!!

***EDIT***

I need to know who is doing it by next Friday (11/19/10) and I will need your name and address as well to exchange.

I will then let you know who you are matched up with next Monday (11/22/10) and send you the name, address, and likes / dislikes.

Gifts will then need to be sent out no later than 12/15/10 which I think should give people enough time and hopefully make it so the gift arives before Xmas.

Sound good? Hope so!

I am gonna have an independet source (my wife) help me pair people up at random so good luck!

Furly - 11-19-2010 at 02:05 PM

Are you actually pairing, so like, I'll know whoever I have has me?

Apposed to I have BD, who has Honus, who has Morgan, who has Sen who has Paulie ect ect...... Either way is fine..... I just like a surprise. :)

BDx13 - 11-19-2010 at 02:15 PM

i'm sorry, i haven;t read through all of this, but monty, you shouldn't need an even number.
like furly said, it's more like a 'pass the gift to you the person on your left' thing so you know who you're giving to, but don't know who you got. and it should be completely random, but there's been enough hooking up going on between paul and honus. mix those two up!

lifeisabitch - 11-19-2010 at 02:26 PM

isn't the idea is you get an address and send it off...
you don't know who it is for
and they don't know who sent it
that is what makes it secret

BDx13 - 11-19-2010 at 02:55 PM

i always thought the secret part was you didn't know who got for you. but i guess, technically, your way is secret, too! monty's putting it together, he'll tell us what we need to know!

thedog - 11-19-2010 at 05:26 PM

If it is an odd number then either someone would have to give 2 people presents or one person would get shafted...

I plan on having it so it is a random choice of who gets who. The person you get is not necesarily the one that gets you and you will know who you are giving to, but not who you are recieving from (thats what she said?).

I tihnk I have the "oddness" figured out...

Lets say we picked names from a hat. and we have (as names picked totally at random) Jim, Dwight, Pam, Stanley and Michael...

Jim pulls Stanley
Stanley pulls Pam
Pam pulls Dwight
Dwight pulls Michael
Michael pulls jim

Ok, just had to make sure it worked... I have only been IN a Secret Santa, never set one up. ;)

XnMeX - 11-19-2010 at 08:07 PM

Problem solved!!!

http://www.boogspace.com/secret-santa-name-picker.asp

lifeisabitch - 11-19-2010 at 08:11 PM

but with an odd number it works
person 1 sends to person 2 person to person 3 to person 1

BDx13 - 11-22-2010 at 11:44 PM

got it, thanks, monty.
when are we meant to get the gifts out by?
and what's our spending limit?
looking forward to trying to guess who had us!

I had the same questions too. And, seeing as I've never really done a secret santa thing, are we supposed to say who we are when we send them the stuff? If that's supposed to still be a secret I won't include my username in anything, but I'd like to know who got me whenever I get something...

BDx13 - 11-22-2010 at 11:57 PM

i like the idea of trying to guess who had us, but that'll be tough if we put a return address on the package.

sentrand - 11-22-2010 at 11:58 PM

now the fun part, trying to figure out what to get.

lifeisabitch - 11-23-2010 at 02:59 AM

i hope whoever I get likes t-shirts

XnMeX - 11-23-2010 at 08:22 AM

Gifts will then need to be sent out no later than 12/15/10 which I think should give people enough time and hopefully make it so the gift arives before Xmas.

As for dollar ammount I was thinking $10-15 would be good.

You can decide to reveal who youi are when you send it, or not. That part is upto you (although since I sent everyone the address list it would probably be pretty easy to figure out). I had to send the list to everyone in order to keep everything a secret even from myself since I didn't want to know who got me or who got everyone else.

If anyone has any trouble getting their info, let me know.

Hmm... how many of these do you think will be sent?

Hope you guys have fun with it. Maybe the European Thorpsters should have done our own, since shipping to the US is crazy.

XnMeX - 11-23-2010 at 02:44 PM

There was someone (don't know who) that asked about shirt sizes and that everyone should post up shirt sizes.

I wear a 2xl (but I think I added that into my Likes).

Anyone can also feel free to throw out ideas or hints for their secret santa. This is the first year so this is the "work out the bugs" secret santa.
