Brisbane is fucked, the floods that hit the north & west is pushing toward us. The dams are all 100% and have been for a while. They keep letting
out excess but the main dam by the city is going to fill and tip over soon.
Spoke to the wife, house is still good, no flooding expected in our area but downtown Brisbane is slowly being deserted, some parts being forced to
evacuate, roads & bridges closed, Brisbane River breached it's banks.
Crazy shit. Waiting for the boss to come back from a meeting with HR, they already approved closure of the Service Desk 2 hours early but they are
trying to push for us to leave sooner. A lot of office buildings are being sent home, the big banks etc.
Yesterday Toowoomba to the west of Brisbane got hammered with a major flash flood, they called it an inland tsunami. First report was 4 dead, it's
currently up to 80 and over 70 people still missing. The rain & flash flood came so quick and with so much force that it literally resembled a
tsunami, cars were flying all over the place. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/01/11/3110285.htm should have some info but Youtube would be filled with videos of this thing.
Crazy ass day. Don't think we're coming to work tomorrow, city might be locked down.DAK - 1-10-2011 at 11:07 PM
Stay safe bro.Six66Mike - 1-10-2011 at 11:10 PM
Apparently we have a king tide due at 2pm (1 hour) so the river's gonna rise a bunch more lol. traffic is nuts, I'm just hanging at work, the water
will recede a bit after the tide is over, my bus seems to still be running.
Worst case I get stuck in the city and get put up in a city hotel free for the night courtesy of the employer BDx13 - 1-11-2011 at 12:03 AM
you shouldn't have put your place in toronto up for sale. Six66Mike - 1-11-2011 at 12:21 AM
lol that place is sweet. I love going to open houses, I'd kill to go in that one.
According to http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/01/11/3110450.htm the river should be worse tomorrow so we've got a number to call and find out if work
will be open or not. Chances are since we're closing 3.5 hours early today (huzzah I get 30 minutes free pay) we ain't gonna work tomorrow.
Bonus is I'm permanent, no more contracting like my old job. I get paid for this shit now
We're in Carina on this map so we should be good but look at how much of Brisbane city center & area is expected to get hit, shit is going to be
insane the next few days. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/01/11/3110157.htmBDx13 - 1-11-2011 at 10:22 AM
i heard on the radio this morning that the flood area is the size of german and france combined.
insane.Six66Mike - 1-12-2011 at 02:14 AM
Hah yeah I realized Australia was big as fuck after a story on the Adelaide news. Some priest had a congregation out in Port Pirie or something and
his area was the combined size of France & Germany... and that was just 1 part of South Australia lol.
Queensland's flood would cover all of New South Wales (atleast 2 weeks ago it was anyways, probably more now) which is 309,130 sq miles...
The size of Germany & France was December 30th... so probably add another country in to that lol. Back then it hadn't hit Southeast Queensland where
it's hitting now, didn't include Toowoomba, Ipswich, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast.
SEQ is 22,420 square kilometres on it's own, and a lot of that is flood impacted now.
Lockyer Valley is where Toomba is and the "inland tsunami" hit, most deaths and missing out there. Ipswich is being hit today and tonight, and
Brisbane will get worse tomorrow as it moves East.
Another day off work
watch this parking lot full of cars float away

Yeah Toowoomba was fucked up. River peak this morning was lower than planned, tide will come in again this afternoon but they don't expect it to be
as bad as first thought, still thousands of homes under water and the city is closed.
Was nice & sunny when I got up, cooled off compared to yesterday. Bit overcast now, there's no rain forecast today anywhere in the area.
They're tracking a cyclone which is currently projected to hit this area at the end of the month, waiting to see what happens with that. It'll cause
a whole new range of flooding if it hits this part of Queensland.Six66Mike - 1-16-2011 at 08:10 PM
Back to work today, didn't notice too much damage coming into the city, just some pumps emptying out parking lots & basements of big buildings right
up along the river.
