Makes me want to build something. Like remodel the living room. Build a wall or something. Drink beer from a can. Listened completely and on my second spin before I sleep. I like it.

It's definitely more laid back and more friendly sounding than any album they've done before, but aside from a song or two I didn't like too much, it's still pretty good. I know everybody is citing the Rolling Stones influence on this record, but I hear at least as much Springsteen as Stones. That's a good thing in my book, by the way. I think they stepped a little further away from their standard formula in making this album and in all honesty, I'm surprised they finally did that. Social Distortion has worked that same formula for a hell of a lot of years now and while I think they did a pretty good job of not letting that get stale, it's nice to see 'em try something different. I think there will probably be quite a few guys with Sick Boy tattoos that might get tears in their eyeliner the first couple times they spin this album, but for anyone who can appreciate the songwriting a bit and not just wish for 10 more albums just like the majority of their back catalog, I think it will probably hold up pretty well.

^ What he said ^

I think this is dope. WLWHWT and Sex Love Rock N ROll were a bit too similar to me (although great records). This is still Social D through and through but with some great and acceptable detours. Into it.

just now getting around to listening.
track 2 - california hustle and flow - sounds like a damn ACO song!

generally, i like SD, but i only have sex, love and rock n roll and self titled. never seen 'em live, so the fans haven't had a chance to turn me off.

side note:
i really like the idea behind this promotion (the more streams, the cheaper the purchase price), but 500,000 in a week seems... aggressive.

ShawnRefuse - 1-12-2011 at 12:21 PM

musically I like it, but he uses the same phrases from songs of the past. Not sure I will buy it, but I will stream it a few times to see if catches me more. I am not digging the women backup singers. Seems like an attempt to just make it sound fuller.

BKT - 1-12-2011 at 12:38 PM

I am loving this album, but their finest moment for me is still Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell.

BKT.

I thought so too, but it looks like it only takes someone listening to a single song as a full stream, so if most folks stream the whole album it adds up quick.
I think the count jumped by about 17000 in just the time it took me to listen to the album once.

Going to have to check this one out.

BDx13 - 1-13-2011 at 07:12 AM

yeah, i guess that's supposed to be the idea behind 'social media' anyway - the snowball effect!

joey - 1-13-2011 at 05:18 PM

BD, you never heard ''mommys little monster''?!?!
Pick that one up

MikeFromInhuman - 1-13-2011 at 09:05 PM

At first listen of the first 4 tracks, it is very weak, and I am a mega-fan.
Need to get to the rest. If I don't like it, this will be the first SD record I do not buy.

BDx13 - 1-13-2011 at 11:16 PM

just about 200k.
not bad.

joey, i haven't heard that one, but will check it out. thanks for the suggestion.

I got the new cd. A friend of mine works at a record store and hooked it up. Nice packaging and fuck this cd is very good. I understand the glossiness of the sound but I always thought of SD as a glossy radio friendly band anyway.

CR83 - 1-15-2011 at 10:41 PM

I love the new album. My daughter and I are listening to it a lot together. It has been a very cool experience with me and her.

To me the album is a more "mature" album with Rock and Roll roots. It isn't punk to me, it is like good American Rock N' Roll. I'm a mark for this band though. I pretty much will like anything they do.

Diamond in the Rough is my favorite track.

clevohardcore - 1-15-2011 at 11:18 PM

"Still Alive" has a chorus that won't quit.

My five year old was singing song when he went to bed. Had the words wrong, but I knew what he was singing. AHAHAHA. We drove around listening to it today so....

^^^^^ I agree this is one of the best songs on the release.

AHAHAHA. SD fans are worse than Rush fans. At least Rush fans can claim they love the legendary drumming Neil Pert.

not sure about the eyeliner, but we know one dude who came to mind with a sick boy tattoo who's known to get teary eyed.....it might not be rockabilly enough for him

BDx13 - 1-18-2011 at 05:37 PM

over 400,000 streams, so the price is set at $8.99.
not bad!
