Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

What movies have you seen recently?

BDx13 - 2-14-2011 at 03:01 PM

Outsourced
The TV show is based on (and borrows heavily from) this movie. Nothing obscenely great, but different and funny. It was shot in India, so the scenery is great.

Dinner for Schmucks
Oh, man.

Transsiberian :umm:
Meh, forgettable. The plot had potential, but didn't really deliver. Got the Netflix queue in part for the remote shooting locations, which didn't disappoint.

Iron Man 2 :umm:
Not really into superhero movies, but the first one blew me away. This one just didn't have that same touch.

The Wolfman :umm:
The English countryside locations were the prime draw for me, but overall this wasn't so hot. I was surprised how lacking in suspense it was.

True Grit :thumbup::thumbup:
Saw this in the theater last night. Loved it. Bridges was amazing. I thought it was better than other recent westerns - the proposition, assassination of jesse jame, 3:10 to yuma and appaloosa - but that was in part because jeff bridges' character was SUCH a character.

XHonusWagnerX - 2-14-2011 at 03:32 PM

From BD's list....

Dinner For Schmucks -
a few of my other friends saw it and hated it too, but I thought it was funny!

Iron Man II -
Thought it wasnt as good as the first one, but still liked it a lot.

The Wolfman -
I assume you mean the recent remake. I thought it sucked. Super boring!

Stuff I've actually seen recently....

Lemmy -
but I understand why some people (Gavin) didnt like it. I just thought the parts about Lemmys normal day to day life were awesome and seeing his $900 a month rent control apartment in Hollywood was awesome!

Pirhana 3D -
I downloaded this, it was my first pirated movie! Its a great BAD movie. Lots of blood and even more boobs! Seeing it in 2D kinda sucked becuase the effects that were in 3D looked pretty shitty in the 2D version, but I still liked it.

Also recently rewatched -

Fanboys -
this is one of my favorite movies and I finally bought it on blu-ray. It really is awesome. Even if you're not super into Star Wars its a great 'Friends' movie.

Zack & Miri Make a Porno -
Funny shit, Seth Rogan, lots of Boobs... whats not to love!

Discipline - 2-14-2011 at 03:49 PM

Inception :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: - Best thing I've watched in the last few months.

Red :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Really fun movie

The Girl who Kicked a Hornet's Nest :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Whole trilogy is amazing 5/5 for all three flicks

John Adams (HBO mini-series):thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: I'm a sucker for historical shit

sentrand - 2-14-2011 at 04:05 PM

Dinner for Schmucks i liked it
The Town
Lemmy wll be watching in the next couple of days.

Discipline - 2-14-2011 at 04:39 PM

I forgot about The Town. I was surprised at how much I liked it considering Ben Affleck was in it.

lifeisabitch - 2-14-2011 at 05:01 PM

the town:thumbdown: too unbelievable... I'm robbing your bank... I'm kidnapping you... I'm stalking you... you're my girlfriend....
repo men:thumbup: more graphic then I expected... twist could be seen from the start
no strings attached:  good date flick, way funnier than I ever expected
black swan:  good not great, had me going ouch in a few places
127 hours: :thumbup::thumbup: hardstance

JawnDiablo - 2-14-2011 at 07:44 PM

Hot Tub Time Machine
Black Swan
Lemmy
Half of Inception
I liked all

necrobutcher - 2-14-2011 at 08:10 PM

I went to see True Grit last night. It was good but not great.
I could have done with a little more action and a little less of the goofiness from Bridges. I was expecting something a lot more bitter and grim, like the Proposition.

DAK - 2-14-2011 at 09:10 PM

Lemmy
Machete
The Social Network

clevohardcore - 2-14-2011 at 10:55 PM

social network put me to sleep

Dinner for..... was awesome in the theaters and I rented it again. Very good

I got to see this Lemmy movie. I wonder if its on netflix

wild white of west V on a suggestion by this board. I watched it 2 times for some fucking reason. IF I want to see people like this all I have to do is go to work.

BDx13 - 2-14-2011 at 11:52 PM

what did youz like about dinner for schmucks?
it was SO slow.
the actual dinner scene was hilarious, but that was about it for me.

Discipline - 2-14-2011 at 11:55 PM

I thought Dinner... looked really fucking stupid, so I've avoided it like the plague.

Six66Mike - 2-15-2011 at 12:38 AM

I got a huge list of stuff I need to watch but I can't remember when the last time I watched a movie was :( We're on a huge TV kick, not enough time to watch movies with work & a baby who doesn't chill or sleep on his own.

clevohardcore - 2-15-2011 at 01:08 AM

I thought most of the movie was great. It did feel like it was long but it kept me entertained the entire time. Heck that is why I rented it again. I've heard several people diss it so, what do I know. I thought it was very good.

Colin - 2-15-2011 at 02:44 AM

oh fuck...mostly a bunch of stupid shit. Not stupidly....There Will Be Blood was a good one I just watched over the weekend.....but 2 months ago this was what it was ALL about......

SHAKO KEN - 2-15-2011 at 03:17 AM

i'm trying to watch most of the oscar nominated films before the ceremony. but usually i feel more like watching dumb & entertaining stuff than something artistic.

fair game
good insight in the situation around the outing of cia agent valerie plame in 2003. naomi watts is super hot
little fockers :thumbdown::thumbdown:
horrible
animal kingdom
excellent aussie crime film. i think most of you would like it.
due date :umm:
alright, not a masterpiece
blue valentine
good relationship film although depressing. great acting.
the king's speech
maybe it's getting a little too much praise at the moment but i liked it.
127 hours :thumbup::thumbup:
harrowing shit, great film.
winter's bone :thumbup::thumbup:
chilling ozark white trash atmosphere. my favorite of the year so far.

mattybar - 2-15-2011 at 06:13 AM

saw a bunch of films on the plane to and from Asia recently...

The Town - great, definitely the best film i saw out of the few available.
Inception - watchable but i couldn't get into it. just reminded me of The Matrix.
Clash Of The Titans - awful
Social Network - better than i expected being that it's a film about a website
Predators - watchable but overall a bit lame despite the numerous references to the first film

i wanted to watch Winter's Bone but fell asleep :(

jcarter - 2-15-2011 at 08:28 AM

The Town-

Crazy Heart-:thumbup: Watched this last night and really liked it. Nothing groundbreaking, just a really good flick.

I'm confused. Was that making fun of British gangster flicks, or the fact that many Americans can't understand plain English?

BDx13 - 2-15-2011 at 10:00 PM

gangster flicks.
well, i guess maybe just the english in general.

sentrand - 2-17-2011 at 04:37 AM

the stranger it was alright.

mattybar - 2-17-2011 at 05:57 AM

that Very British thing wasn't too bad but Russell Brand still makes my skin crawl.
Such an irritating cunt.

there was a pretty funny pisstake of Lock Stock... and Snatch on an old UK sketch show called The Fast Show.

Some good flicks I've seen recently you guys might enjoy too:

Looking for Eric (2009) - really good UK drama with Eric Cantona starring as himself
Fair Game - Sean Penn, Iraq; was nice too
The Tillman Story - awesome documentary on Pat Tillman's death and the government cover-up; fuck all that Zeitgeist pseudo-doc crap; this is the real deal.
The Fighter - I thought it was OK, but Bale's performance is awesome
Animal Kingdom - crime drama; rough stuff, depressing, but in a good way
The Company Men - good acting, decent story
The Sunset Limited - just saw it; two guys, sitting in one room, talking for 1,5 hours; great performance by Samuel L. Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones, based on Cormac McCarthy's play
