Sheer Terror

BKT - 4-7-2011 at 02:34 PM

Why the fuck did I never listen to this band more in the past? Been pumping "Just Can't Hate Enough", "Thanks Fer Nothing" and "Loved Songs For The Unloved" for the last while and fuck I love this shit.

Can not wait to see them live tomorrow night.

Ok here is the deal. I first heard Sheer Terror back when I was a wee lad on some compilation album. I don't remember which one it was. The song was "Here To Stay" and I shit my fucking pants when I heard it. I spent forever trying to find that album and this was well before the days of the internet making finding music a breeze. Over the years I kind of forgot about it and then ended up seeing "Just Can't Hate Enough" at a show and bought it. Wore the album out I ran it so much. All that being said I never really got into Sheer Terror as much as I should have and as much as so many other people have. Better late then never though.

Im partial to Ugly and Proud even though it's disliked by the band...it's just a dirty, raw punk rock album. and fucking 'sin of pride' is on it...that song is perfect.

XHonusWagnerX - 4-8-2011 at 07:56 AM

I loved them back in the day and saw them a few times in Boston & Providence, but nothing compares to the last few shows and they keep getting better! Philly was great, NYC was awesome and I think Quincy was the best so far!

MattyA - 4-8-2011 at 08:55 AM

I didn't get into them until recently, I always had a hard time getting into bands that I thought I would never see live. I had one of their CD's for a while, listened to it hear and there, but when they did their first show a couple of years back and there was talk of them doing more shows I started listening to them more and more. I still do that with a lot of the older bands to, you can tell me how awesome a band was back in the day and tell me how good they were, I will buy a couple of albums and listen to it a couple of times but then I just tend to forget about them.

MattyA - 4-8-2011 at 08:58 AM

That being said, you guys have fun this weekend. You won't be disappointed ! Their Quinzee( HAHA!) was one of the best shows I have been to in a long time.

BDx13 - 4-8-2011 at 09:18 AM

shiiiit, i got a tape of that live at cbgb 7" in 89 or 90 and have been down since then. the rawness of the recording, the lyrics, the aggression, the taunting and jeering.... just like with the first live AF, as soon as i heard it, i knew i had found my people. twenty-plus years later, here we still are. crazy.

if you've never heard it, go listen to the 7" right now:

What comp had ''here to stay''? Just wondering.

Discipline - 4-8-2011 at 04:36 PM

Sunday Matinee- The Best of NYHC. It was on Another Planet records. I've probably listened to that 1000 times since it came out. I think it was released in 1994-95.

obviously it was yours man.
it had Do It by Rollins Band on the flip side.
I never returned it
i think Moody stole it off of me....fucking crackhead.
nah but that tape blew me away when i heard it.
so much different than the posi core stuff that was popular.
dark and angry, and honest.
inspiring.

Murk - 4-9-2011 at 10:24 AM

i found a copy of Where The Wild Things Are on yellow in a used bin at the local alternative record store for $4 somtime around 90. i liked all the tracks, but Life's Blood, Sheer Terror and Outburst were my favorites. Sheer Terror really lived up to it's name soundwise and it was dark and gritty. a few weeks later they had Just Can't Hate Enough in the new section. bought it and was tripped out by hearing dark, sludgy hardcore that had guttural screaming and actual singing. sold my record collection like a fool 10 years ago, but found a sealed copy of Bulldog Edition on Amazon Marketplace for $8, thanks to BD. can't wait to hear what the new stuff sounds like.
