I was invited by a group called College Bound to speak at a Career Services class. College Bound helps underprivileged kids get through high school,
into college and then graduate from college. Mentoring, coaching and so on.
So as a "professional" they asked me to go to a high school and talk. It was me and another dude. His name was Brent, he is an entomologist (works
with bugs)
Brent brought some bugs with him and started:
"My name is Brent and I'm an entomologist and I thought it would be cool if I brought a dozen Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches..."
I immediately knew I was upstaged and thought what my rap would be. My first crack at it was going to be:
"Hi, I'm Chris. I work in HR. I'll show myself out."
All in all we had a great time and Brent was cool. Those fucking things do hiss. It's fucked up.JawnDiablo - 5-12-2011 at 10:41 PM
it's all good and I am sure the audience got a kick out of the bugs
and not for nothing, any person trying to make some kinda positive difference for the youth is ok in my book.

Thanks Dude. The bug guy was cool as shit. The jocks dug me because I played sports. We had a fun time and some dude asked me if I was straight
edge thinking he had me. I told him I certainly was and I'm a die hard Minor threat fan. I left with a full pocket of street cred. Felt good.clevohardcore - 5-13-2011 at 01:15 AM

how did SxE come up?clevohardcore - 5-13-2011 at 03:13 PM
Its like the scent of blood for a raging Great White Shark. Straight Edge is noticed and then approach happens.
"Dude, you straight Edge?"
"Um ya, you?"
"Ya"
"Sweet"
"How old are your camo's"
"15 years old"
"DUDE"
"I'M NOT WORTHY. I'M NOT WORTHY" *Waynes World reference*
Joking aside, straight edge seems more and more appealing as I age. Colin - 5-15-2011 at 01:26 PM

There was one final statement that they asked for and it was an answer to this question, "What is the one piece of advice you'd give to someone in
high school."
My answer (long story short) was to be aware of your influences. I don't know too many people who surround themselves with negative influences and
become a success. Surround yourself with positive influences to help you be successful...and so on.
Then some smart ass said, "Like staying above the influence." My response was "Always above." That spawned some other kid, "Like straight edge? Are
you straight edge?" I guess he thought I was some old head and wouldn't be in the know. That's when I dropped some Minor Threat knowledge. Thankfully
it worked out.Colin - 5-22-2011 at 07:13 PM

for real....while I don't see myself
ever being straight edge, it's a great philosophy, & as of late I've had a lot of friends realizing that they can't handle drinking/drugs even in
moderation, & are starting to quit. It kind of bums me out that some of these types can't even handle being around a friend who might enjoy a few
beers, but if that's really what it takes to keep them from relapsing, then whatever. I like to think I'm someone who can drink moderately, & I've
been pretty over hard drugs for a while now. I still see people my age & older who think doing coke makes them hip or cool & it's pretty lame, mostly
sad. I know tons of people who do have self control over what they choose to occasionally put in their bodies, but I/they never in a million years
would think that getting fucked up is glamorous. I like to support any of my friends trying to better themselves
