Gonna close the boards for a software update one night this week. Probably Thursday around 8:30 Eastern. If all goes well, it'll only be an hour or
two. If all goes REALLY well, all these spam posts will be a thing of the past. Word.XnMeX - 6-8-2011 at 09:43 AM

OK, we're back and the board software has been updated. Ran into a small issue during the process that caused the delay, but we're all sorted. 24
hours isn't bad!
The default install of the software doesn't add much new in the way of spam protection, but there are two new hacks that do. The first is already
installed - all new user registrations will need to be approved by an admin before the user can post. I'll probably shut down again in a few days to
install the second hack which puts all posts from new member in a queue until they are approved by an admin. Kinda sucks for legit new members and
definitely requires extra legwork from your faithful admins, but between the two, there should be a significant reduction in spam posts.
If you notice anything not working correctly, just let me know and I'll look into it.Six66Mike - 6-13-2011 at 07:32 AM
Apparently the upgrade changes your name too BDx13 - 6-13-2011 at 09:37 AM
when i changed my username years ago, i did it directly in the database which, apparently, circumvented the three-character minimum built into xmb. i
wouldn't have been able to register that name directly, but the last version let me login with it, regardless.
that actually wound up being the problem over the weekend. you have to login w/ a super admin account as part of the the upgrade process and script
wouldn't let me since two-character usernames are prohibited. oops.Six66Mike - 6-13-2011 at 10:19 PM
