Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

I think I'm moving...

XHonusWagnerX - 6-24-2011 at 08:37 AM

I made an offer on a house and after some back & forth on the price they accepted it yesterday afternoon. I got pre-approved for the mortgage, but theres still a lot to do. Next is the purchase & sales, then the home inspection, insurance, mortgage papers etc etc etc.

Its a big move... I just checked and its 472 feet from where I live right now! I'm thinking if we got enough people we could do a bucket brigade style hand off to move everything!

Mark Lind - 6-24-2011 at 08:42 AM

Congrats! You joke about it now but I bet you'll bitch and moan more about that move when it happens than if you were moving 472 miles.

I'm scheduled to close next Thursday. If you have any questions about the process from one ignoramus to another then message me.

Six66Mike - 6-24-2011 at 10:05 AM

Wouldn't the home inspection come before forking out all the bucks?

XnMeX - 6-24-2011 at 10:10 AM

Congrats! Looks like a pretty nice place. I went thru LOTS os meet up / paperwork / etc and thought we would never close. Just keep at it and if you think somthing is not getting done right / at a decent pace, say somthing! This is the only house you are working on getting but everyone else involved are working with multiple properties.

Do you mind if I ask what the price is? I just got mine (3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath, 2 floors, walk out basement, 0.17 acres) for $92,000. I live in Maine now, which is still weird for me to comprehend / accept. ;)

clevohardcore - 6-24-2011 at 10:20 AM

DUDE HUGE CONGRATS! I am looking and we bid on one last week. They didn't bidge on the huge list price so we are looking at others. I want a deal. It's rediculous how much people are asking for houses in this market. Plus, its B.S. what banks are asking on foreclosed houses. They are supposed to be unloading them for what is owed but they are not in my area. They are listing them for just under market value and not what is owed. They claim to not be in the housing business and don't want to sit on them but that is exactly what they are doing in my area.

Honus what is the SQFT of that house? It's looks spacious. Again congrats!

Side note, someone asked about getting inspections earlier. You bid, they accept pending inspection.

clevohardcore - 6-24-2011 at 10:21 AM

IF inspection finds problems then you iron those out or walk away free and clear minus your inspection fee.

The most recent median house price for Carina Heights is $530,000 and the median unit price is $380,000.

Seriously. Prices in Australia for housing is fucked hard. 3 bedroom post war house, no air conditioning, no renovations, no basement, dishwasher... anything modern and you're still pushing $400,000 right now.

less than an hour from Boston

and about a mile from the South Attleboro, MA commuter rail train stop

It's only an hour or so away from Boston, but Pawtucket is like a whole different country...

M.Alki - 6-24-2011 at 12:26 PM

These prices are crazy compared to here. For a 2 bed apartment outside of London you are looking at around £200,000 (around $330,000) and for the same size place within London, even if we're talking on the outskirts where you are lucky if you're even anywhere near a rail station it's about £250,000 at least for a place that probably isn't even that nice.
I need to leave this country!

BDx13 - 6-24-2011 at 12:34 PM

London Is The Reason.
I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Very nice Honus. Congrats.

clevohardcore - 6-24-2011 at 01:24 PM

WHAT THE HECK DO YOU GUYS DO FOR A LIVING? We qualify for much more house, but in no way do I want my mortgage to be over $1,100 a month. THis was the house I bid on but they barely refused to budge. We offered $100,000 including closing costs and they countered with 124,900 and no closing. House has been on the market for over a year too.

Link didn't work at my work. I'll post it up tonight. I'd like to knwo what you guys think.

Do you live in Cleveland? The cost of living is a lot higher in Boston, NY, San Francisco than it is in many other areas. So we might get paid more but it's all relative. The ultimate coup would be to get in with a multi-location company in one of the most expensive markets and then transfer to a cheaper location while maintaining the same pay. If I transferred to our Wisconsin office or our South Carolina office then I could probably live like Hugh Heffner in those places with Boston pay.

clevohardcore - 6-24-2011 at 09:40 PM

I may bid on this house around $100,000. It's a 3 bedroom split level that needs minor things done to it. This is 1200sqft. Yard is .37ach yard. with fence.

I bid on this one for $100,000 however they feel its worth $130,000. This is a 3 bedroom ranch 1497sqft with .28ach yard

Both houses in Amherst, about 30 minutes west of Cleveland.

XHonusWagnerX - 6-25-2011 at 11:31 AM

Discipline - 6-25-2011 at 04:09 PM

Congrats Josh, you really scored. The only thing around here you could get for $200,000 is a tiny little condo.

clevohardcore - 6-25-2011 at 04:42 PM

NICE!
