Sold Our House Today

CR83 - 10-28-2011 at 09:08 PM

They are redistricting our area school district so my daughters 5 closest friend were being transferred to a new school starting next year. We put the crib up 3 weeks ago sporting a brand new kitchen remodel and accepted a contract today.

Drawback, very few houses up in the area we are targeting. In fact there are like 3, not real winners to select, and we have to be out of our place (assuming inspections go OK) in 33 days. Yikes!

Either way, we are moving up like George and Weezey. We are going to chill in our friend's vacant condo for a few months for when a property comes up we dig. Crazy times.

Damn, that was a quick sale. We have been looking to buy for since the summer. Going to look at 2 homes tomorrow. Not too excited about them though so. That is cool you got someone who will loan you a place to stay like that. That sounds like it works out great for you guys.

we tried selling 6 months earlier in the year. Then bit the bullet and did a total redo on the kitchen. Granite, stainless steel appliances, the whole deal. That was the ticket for us. We had a galley kitchen and blew that fucker up.

One of the houses we are still considering has a shitty kitchen. It's one of the reasons we are dragging our feet. Trying to get a much cheaper price to compensate for a remodel. What size was your kitchen and can you give a brother an idea of what it costs to remodel? I came up with 10k, but I am not sure if I am over estimating. The whole nine of course.
fridge - 1700
stove- 900
micro- 300
flooring 2,500k
dishwasher - 500
That's where I am lost. How bad was the cost for cabinets? and counter tops and sink?

All in, we did $15k. We had new cabinets from a semi remodel we did 5 years ago so we only needed like half of the cabinets. Lowe's was running a great deal (self shutting drawers which are badass). Our new cabinets were only $2,500. Granite $3,500. New fridge (counter depth which sucks) was $800 (best buy was running a deal and we found a place to match as long as we bought, stove/range, micro and dishwasher. We went with Frigidaire Gallery collection so it all matches.

I'll e-mail you the before and after pictures. Basically, we had a galley kitchen and a dinning room. We removed the wall between them and made a peninsula (half wall with granite counter) and combined the rooms. Makes an unreal difference. We had a contractor in our neighborhood do the work. Took about a month. For three weeks, we had no running water in the kitchen. It sucked but worth it.

Wow, great job. It doesn't even resemble the before pics. No wonder it sold so fast.
