forks over knives

This documentary MUST be watched by everyone concerned with living a fruitful life. Just a thought. Not telling anyone what to eat, just saying. Watch it.

Six66Mike - 1-22-2012 at 03:09 AM

I've got it, haven't got around to watching it yet.

DaveMoral - 1-22-2012 at 08:55 AM

Definitely watch it. I'm trying to get my father to watch it. Check out Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead too while you're at it.

clevohardcore - 1-22-2012 at 04:03 PM

Going to watch that tonight. If its not too late I will watch forks over knives again. So much information in it, it must be watched several times.

You know there's a companion book? And I guess there is a recipe book coming out soon.

I intend to go a on a juice fast for about a week in the spring and then start the Engine 2 Diet by Rip Esselstyn. I'll really amp up my veggie eatin' and drop some fat. I may be vegan, but I'm pretty bad as it comes to eating veggies. Sad, I know. I eat too much bread and use a crap ton of veggie "meat."

Watched FSD. Wow, very good and not what I expected.

Fat Sick and Nearly Dead is really good. Moving. That trucker inspired the hell outta me.

I could never adapt to a vegetarian or vegan diet. A week without beef is a week not worth living as far as I'm concerned.

Me to my wife the other day: "You know, if Desmond (our son) comes out of the cloest some day I will be fine with that but if he comes to me and says that he is vegan, it will break my heart." :P

There's a lot of very interesting comparisons in that movie between western food culture and eastern. People still will probably assume the reason the west is covered in blubber, filled with diabetes and our assholes are falling out from cancer is just a coincidence though.

We'll all keep loving meat though and our GMO's and our kids well become fatter and fatter and sicker and sicker...but it's alright our red and yellow McJesus will save us.

My fiance does not really eat meat at all. Not for any health reasons or political beliefs, she just does not enjoy it. Rarely do I prepare meat at home at all. Only when my son is over and the mood strikes. I usually get it when we are out to eat though. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies throughout the day, and if I am having meat is is typically grilled chicken or turkey any more.
I grew up in a house where the dinner meal was always based on the meat being served. my parents did not experiment of try anything outside of their comfort zone. We are a lot more avant garde per say.

as of lately, it has been a Mediterranaean thing with a whole plethora of different fresh stuff .....

not saying that i don't enjoy a giant szed burger here and there......

oh and I eat Scrapple religiously so that is my cheat......

My wife has been vegetarian for like 14 years (with stretches of vegan interlaced) so I rarely if ever cook meat just because it's kind of a pain in the ass cooking for one. I do most of the cooking so I tend to eat more in her realm than anything else.

It's humorous to hear all the questions and grief she gets from family members who still to this day think it's a phase for her when it's obviously not. Sometimes I think it takes a huge amount of dedication...other times I think shes just smarter than us and is doing what we should be doing. It's never been an issue or a struggle for her (outside of stupid questions like "Where do you get your protein??"...like people have never heard of an elephant or any other herbivore giant)...it's just what she does.

I'm trying to steer that direction for myself more recently...not for some animal rights reason, though if that's your bag, great...but because I believe we've been sold a false bill of goods with our diets. Everything we eat in this country is industry. 90% of it's bad for us...yet we keep gorging on lobbied industrial cuisine...then to remedy it, we gorge further on lobbied industrialized pharmaceuticals. We're rats running for the cheese.

no doubt.

Exactly what I got from these films. They opened my eyes a bit. I am already making some strides in my consumption. Eliminating milk so far and upping my veg intake while lowering my meat intake. Almonnd milk with fruit and veg blend for breakfast.
