My wife has been vegetarian for like 14 years (with stretches of vegan interlaced) so I rarely if ever cook meat just because it's kind of a pain in
the ass cooking for one. I do most of the cooking so I tend to eat more in her realm than anything else.
It's humorous to hear all the questions and grief she gets from family members who still to this day think it's a phase for her when it's obviously
not. Sometimes I think it takes a huge amount of dedication...other times I think shes just smarter than us and is doing what we should be doing. It's
never been an issue or a struggle for her (outside of stupid questions like "Where do you get your protein??"...like people have never heard of an
elephant or any other herbivore giant)...it's just what she does.
I'm trying to steer that direction for myself more recently...not for some animal rights reason, though if that's your bag, great...but because I
believe we've been sold a false bill of goods with our diets. Everything we eat in this country is industry. 90% of it's bad for us...yet we keep
gorging on lobbied industrial cuisine...then to remedy it, we gorge further on lobbied industrialized pharmaceuticals. We're rats running for the
cheese. |
