Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

a blog about saving $ that my friend started

A friend of mine (Monty knows her as K2U Jen) recently got married and had a baby. A month ago she freaked out that the baby was turning 1 and she wanted to start saving for college for the kid. At that point she realized she had .70 cents in her savings account so she started this blog with 'funny'/interesting stories about how shes saving. So far in about a month shes up to $75.70 so its working.

I decided that I'm gonna open a new savings account and try to cut stuff out and match what she saves. I know money is tight for everyone, but thought maybe this blog would give some people ideas.

Very good idea. Shit like this is proactive and positive. I am all about learning how to make things better.

Just posted my lattest haul on facebook. 12 12packs of Coke Zero for less than $10. They cost me $0.77 each and after recycling the cans (since I live in Maine I get $0.05 per can) they will have cost $0.17 each 12 pack.

I have the facebook of one of the sites in my area that does matchups and when I see a good deal pop up I jump on it.

Just did a decent Peanut Butter haul with some Planters $1.50 off 2 coupons that just got posted the other day which is great because the wife and I are PB junkies and our supply has been gone for a bit now since it seems like there has been a PB sale / coupon drought. I bought 19 jars last night at $1.25 each instead of $2.00. Not the best deal, but the best there has been for a while since the prices went up.

^^^^ I know exactly. We landed a huge amount of PB around summer but haven't since. We had around 35 or 40 jars of regular size smuckers, jif and skippy all natural PB. Between us using them and me passing some to friends and family we are down to I think 3. Been looking for the next PB haul, but they have raised prices so much on PB.

Also, thanks for the link I sent it to the wife.

XnMeX - 1-26-2012 at 07:15 PM

Link is mostly only good for the area stores that she lists the matchups on like Shaws, Rite Aid, CVS of which you may or may not have in your area.

The wife shops rite aid and cvs often. Obviously we live quite a distance form you. Hopefully it may work.

The wife just came back from a Giant Eagle shopping trip that would have been $98.65 and the bill was $33. Pretty good scores on salad dressings, soups and cereals this time.

Jenn added another $25 to her savings and is now up to $100.70 in about a month & a half. Not to bad really. I went and started a new savings account and I'm trying to match her with what she saves, but its a little harder because I want to do in in addition to my normal saving, but I've done it so far and I have $100.70 in a new savings account and its money that would have been spent on something.
