MattyA - 2-13-2012 at 07:45 PM

Want to go too, mainly for H2O.

DaveMoral - 2-13-2012 at 08:13 PM

I wish H2O was going to be in Philly. With GZA and Bad Brains.

last time i saw bad brais they played something like 3 songs and they were headlining. would like to see again.

BDx13 - 2-13-2012 at 10:48 PM

i can't do it. that motorcycle helmet nonsense at CBGB in 2006 was the last straw. i love bad brains and the band is still tight as shit, but the live show is just too painful these days. i can't tell you how thankful i am to have seen them so many times from the late 80 through mid-90s.

clevohardcore - 2-13-2012 at 11:56 PM

What is the motorcycle helmet nonsense?

BDx13 - 2-14-2012 at 12:13 AM

the last week cbgb was open, bad brains played three nights in a row. first night, hr wore a motorcycle helmet and (what turned out to be) a non-working wireless mic for the first 20 minutes. things didn't get any better after the helmet came off, other. the band played perfectly, but the rest was atrocious.

I saw the 2nd night at CBGBs and to me they were great. I didnt see them in their prime so I dont really have anything to compare it to, but I wasnt disapointed. HR was weird. it was almost like he was being the host of a childrens show. He kept saying (in an odd voice almost kind of like Jar Jar Binks )... "Its very nice of alls of you to be joinin us tonight. I'm so pleased that we can have a good time together"

In all honesty I spent most of the night watching Darryl & Dr. Know who were amazing!

this is pretty much how i feel.
i saw them in London... can't remember when exactly but Danny 3rd District was there too... the band were incredible but HR was mad awkward. I know he's an old dude and has pretty much lost his marbles but it just felt a bit wrong.

edit - in hindsight, i wish i'd gone to see the Gorilla Biscuits reunion which was happening the same night at a venue about two doors down the street (classic example of bad London promoting right there) and was apparently incredible.

Question.... Why is Megaforce Records promoting this show?

I had been hearing about so many of these weird shows, but when I finally saw them in '07 there were thankfully no motorcycle helmets involved......they all played great

BDx13 - 2-14-2012 at 11:46 AM

was hr able to keep up with the pace of the music? once he got the helmet off, he WAS singing, but he was constantly behind the music.

XHonusWagnerX - 2-14-2012 at 12:21 PM

I know most people will disagree, but I almost consider them a different band at this point and if I see them and I get "Crazy motorcycle helmet HR" I wouldnt be that upset because at least I had a story to tell and I saw 'Crazy Bad Brains'.

As far as keeping up with the music, I dont think he was TO bad the 2nd night at CBGBs. I would love to see some video from that night just because its the show I was at. I think I stage dove during I Against I... maybe.

clevohardcore - 2-14-2012 at 01:14 PM

I saw them in I think 2001 or so. Candiria opened. Bad Brains were fucking awesome, but HR was strange. Brought a throne style chair out and placed it in front of the crowd. Persisted to be super nice and and peaceful acting. Intro'd every song like we were all children. Weird. Eventually he got up and walked around, but he was reserved acting. He kept patting people on the head and back like they were dogs. Also sang the songs like he was super mello.

thats a great description of what he did when I saw them at CBGBs the last week they were open.

DaveMoral - 2-14-2012 at 06:11 PM

HR is one fucked up drug addled dude.

as far as I could tell, though I had quite a few beers

JawnDiablo - 2-15-2012 at 06:55 PM

again, my friend was blowing my phone up about this yesterday.
I am nay saying.
he is telling me I am a pussy and it is going to rule.
I am still nay saying.
not spending my dollaz on a potential motorcycle helmet experience.
holla!

so if any of you see a big loundmouthed fucker with a lion tattooed on his neck named Volpe at the Troc yelling "this sucks!" you can tell him "Quinn says he told you so"

3rdDistrict - 2-16-2012 at 04:33 PM

I am jsut going to say, people are awfully quick to judge HR. I believe its more of a mental issue, as from what i have seen in the last 10 years (HR lives 1 mile from me, and I used to see him quite often), he loves his herb.
Also, he is REALLY into his Human Rights band. My good friend dave stone, my man doc knight, and buddy pablo are in it.

JawnDiablo - 2-17-2012 at 08:11 PM

I just purchased a Ticket....all my usual locos are going so I figured I don't wanna be left out.
