Those are nice looking but I've always steered clear of those because I hear the grip pins eat your shoes up.

I have these bad boys on mine. Great grip and with the length under the foot for support instead of jutting out both side where my feet aren't like most pedals I can wear sandals or shoes and be equally comfortable even on some of my 50 mile rides.

you just bought those? balla!

i use something similar (though less balla) on my mountain bike. i still put my feet down so g-d much when i'm riding that i don;t wanna be clipped in.

got these from a friend that works at a local bike shop:
http://www.odysseybmx.com/catalog/pedals/trailmix/

they're my third set of pedals this year. the first were a traditional bmx style that were flimsy and got completely destroyed hitting rocks and roots and whatnot. the second was a big fat plastic pair that my feet kept slipping off of. these are big and grippy and take a beating.

Jason those are bad ass. I was surprised at how many pedal brands and variations are out. I've been riding my factory pedals that came with my Gary Fisher. When I got it salesman was like you'll want new pedals. I thought fuck you bro, they are fine. Had the bike a year of just riding with my son and wife on roads and bike paths. No problem. This spring started hitting trails with friends and I finally understand the way of a good pedal. The hills, roots etc on the rides require it. I will not go the way of a clip on though. That seems too restrictive. So didn't want spend on them full price so I hit ebay and watched and watched and watched. Until I got these. Still expensive but a lot less them if I bought them from a store.

Yeah the "clipless" (the ones that you clip into, "clipless" is in reference to not being the strap in pedals...don;t worry it's not supposed to make sense) pedals are 90% hype.

You can tell the difference when using them in transmission of energy to the pedal, but unless you're doing to Tour de France...I'm going to say it's just something else bike snob culture is trying to sell you into believing you cant ride a bike without.

If you're riding a bike for exercise primarily, the little energy lost due to not being clipped in, is extra energy expended...aka exercise. I liked them riding around my parents house up in MI where I have miles of open road with very few stops...but by me where it's Asian lady death race 2000 I absolutely hated being clipped in and bought those battle axe looking things.

by far my favorite investment for my bike was these grips...

not my bike, but I have a flat bar commuter/road bike and hate the stock grips on those. These are great for changing hand position and adjustable to tons of angles...plus the flat palm is great too.

i have clipless pedals on my road bike and i absolutely LOVE them. aint no tour de france, but i can definitely feel a difference, especially on killer uphills.

out where i do most of my road riding, you pass more amish buggies than cars, so there's really no reason to click out of the pedal unless you're taking a break.

clevohardcore - 8-17-2012 at 05:20 PM

How do you click off of them? I imagine its not hard right?

Also I noticed those grips on a lot of new bikes now a days. I'll look into them. Might benefit my wrist. My right wrist has been in pain all summer long from riding. It's taken a toll on my workouts as I can't do as many pushups and power wheel walks. Should go to the doc now that i think about it.

You more or less twist your foot at an angle and they pop out...but if you have to unclip quick and you dont think first, you're going to try to pull your foot off and you're probably going down. That's mostly why I didn;t like them, I ride in the burbs and it's soccer mom and asian lady mayhem over here...I'm always almost getting hit.

I have a hand that has 2 working finger pretty much due to a work accident years ago...those grips are a life saver on my wrists.

How much they run?

Jason the Magnificent - 8-18-2012 at 07:21 AM

there's different models but i think i got mine on ebay for around $40?

Looks like you can get the ones with the shorter bullhorn for around $29...IMO the longer ones are the way to go though, those short ones aren't really much to hold onto.

clevohardcore - 8-18-2012 at 11:52 AM

Those would be a hazard riding trails. I dig the ergonomic grips, but not the extended tubes anyway. Beginning to understand that mountain bikes are like golf. An expensive sport to participate in. Booooo

Jason the Magnificent - 8-18-2012 at 03:04 PM

I don't have the longest ones, I have the mid size like the ones shown in the picture...i forgot there were even "longer" ones...those are a bit excessive.

clevohardcore - 8-18-2012 at 03:27 PM

I want to get a road bike and when I do I will definitely get the bar extensions. But for my mountain bike. No way. I've bit it a couple times going up hills (sounds crazy), but I ain't bullshitting. If I had those on my bike. O man it would have sucked. I do want those grips though. Bad.

Jason the Magnificent - 8-18-2012 at 04:38 PM

They're actually intended for and primarily used in mountain biking for changing hand positions or giving a different grip for climbs. Not sure why it'd be bad if you wiped out? I've spilled on my bike and they didn't encumber anything. Better then when I had my foot trapped in clipless pedals lol.

Most road bikes have drop bars...which if you're looking for a roady road bike, you're better off with anyway because they have the most hand selections for long rides.

My bike is kind of a bastard bike, somewhere between both, but not quite a hybrid.

One climb I had my left handlebar in my in my chest. All my dude said when I bailed was your lucky you didn't have these. And pointed at his handlebars. I was near the top and hit a patch of roots where my wheel got caught between. I went over with my handlebars and tumbled down.
