The Storm

necrobutcher - 10-29-2012 at 01:04 PM

I know a lot of regular posters on here are east coasters.

Everyone holding out ok so far? I'm in central NJ, thankfully on a hill so I'm not worried about flooding. Last year during Irene didn't even lose power. I have a feeling this one is going to be a little worse.

BDx13 - 10-29-2012 at 02:27 PM

we're in the country between philly and lancaster. lots of rain and wind so far, but still have power. friends in nyc are having a rough go of it - east river is already overflowing.

ShawnRefuse - 10-29-2012 at 02:35 PM

windows are rattling we are right on the edge of the "not evacuated" but it's not even here yet, right? I heard something about 7pm going to be the worst? I don't know. Just strong wind here now.

MattyA - 10-29-2012 at 02:36 PM

Windy and rain were I am in Mass. Lost power for 45 minutes but that was it so far.

clevohardcore - 10-29-2012 at 03:16 PM

In Ohio its been raining for 5 days now. Obviously nothing like the east coast. Lake Erie does have 15 foot waves. That's unheard of. Supposedly it will hit 20 foot near the end of the day. I'm going to take photos.

A buddy of mine is in Brooklyn and the area a few blocks from him is flooded out.

Glad I am a bit inland. Hoping my car will withstands any water that does come up this way.

BDx13 - 10-29-2012 at 04:45 PM

Nice and sunny here in Texas,:D
Stay safe everyone.

JawnDiablo - 10-29-2012 at 07:14 PM

we're right outside Philly.
Windy as hell and rainy.
Power was out for a bit then back on, then off, now back on.
Not even sue about work tomorrow as they closed all the highways.
swell.

went out to a diner earlier cuz we were bored.
the waitresses did not give us that welcome feeling.
figuring one spit in my chicken fried steak.

morgan - 10-29-2012 at 07:53 PM

Stay safe and as dry as you can.

necrobutcher - 10-29-2012 at 07:54 PM

There is a flagpole at the school across the street from my house. I have no idea how that thing has not gone down. This is getting intense.

clevohardcore - 10-29-2012 at 09:03 PM

Big ass waves in Lake Erie. Very windy. Lots of branches down. All local schools closed now.

BDx13 - 10-29-2012 at 09:16 PM

power has cut off for a just a minute or two twice this evening. storm just hit land a little bit ago and is headed directly toward us. i was just outside - not raining much at the moment, but very windy. between now and 2 am it's supposed to pass over.

BDx13 - 10-29-2012 at 09:18 PM

alphabet city in nyc is getting JACKED!

BDx13 - 10-29-2012 at 10:14 PM

NYC Con Ed plant explosion.

CR83 - 10-29-2012 at 10:58 PM

Man, keep safe all you East Coast heads. I am in the middle of the US. Basement is finished and we welcome visitors. BD, I'll set up the family bunks. We have plenty of fresh beef too. Door is open.

clevohardcore - 10-29-2012 at 11:54 PM

All of the surrounding cities and counties have no power. My city Elyria still does. Pretty grateful. No class tomorrow. Settling in and watching TWIN PEAKS on netflix. Just started season two.

Man please be safe everyone and get some peace.

BDx13 - 10-30-2012 at 12:10 AM

"the falls at ground zero"

BDx13 - 10-30-2012 at 12:12 AM

this photo is from brooklyn looking across the east river toward manhattan. you'll notice most of lower manhattan is dark - 700,000 are without power. the river completely consumed the park and pier that are (were) in the foreground of this photo and apparently manhattan looks about the same on the other side.

mattybar - 10-30-2012 at 05:30 AM

That shit is crazy.
Hope you're all ok. Be safe, people.

clevohardcore - 10-30-2012 at 10:05 AM

Wow.

ShawnRefuse - 10-30-2012 at 10:06 AM

again I will say that I am grateful I was just far enough from the water that my apartment was not affected other than the occasional flicking of lights. Working from home again today though because the city is still pretty much shut down.

clevohardcore - 10-30-2012 at 10:07 AM

What is the Con Ed plant?

lifeisabitch - 10-30-2012 at 10:54 AM

Glad you all are doing okay...

JawnDiablo - 10-30-2012 at 11:02 AM

we just saw on the news that there are a lot of doctored up NYC photos circulating.

clevohardcore - 10-30-2012 at 11:11 AM

It got real calm all of a sudden. Weird.

BDx13 - 10-30-2012 at 12:57 PM

@Clevo - Con Edison is the power company in NYC. The facility in that video is on 14th street in manhattan, right on the east river. After the explosion, power went our for most of lower manhattan. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/30/coned-explosion-hur...

@juan - there definitely are fakes out there, but they're pretty damn obvious. http://mashable.com/2012/10/29/fake-hurricane-sandy-photos/

i think this is my favorite real photo so far - cars floating out of an underground parking facility in the financial district.

JawnDiablo - 10-30-2012 at 01:58 PM

Seems like my area got passed over for the bad stuff.
Bunch of trees down and stuff.
Glad I moved my car.

BD, I wasn't referring to yours bud.

Looks really bad up there.
Something like 50 houses caught on fire?

DaveMoral - 10-30-2012 at 04:44 PM

That pic looks like cars floatting in the slime from.Ghostbusters 2.

We have a lot of leaves and branches in the yard. No power outages, though I saw a sparking transformer across the street around midnight.

We went out this afternoon to tey to go get something to eat... lots of roads blocked with downed trees and wires. We gave up the ghost and came back home.

JawnDiablo - 10-30-2012 at 05:08 PM

Dave, you still in Ardmore?
Ever try Firingi?
It is in the corner across from the municipal building.
We love the place.

BDx13 - 10-30-2012 at 06:04 PM

Yeah. I haven't been to Firinji yet. Heard good things. Not sure what kinds of vegan options they have.

If you ever get the chance go check out Vge in Bryn Mawr on Lancaster. My wife bakes cupcakes for them. Good stuff.

JawnDiablo - 10-30-2012 at 07:28 PM

nice, I meant to ask where she baked for

random - 10-31-2012 at 12:14 AM

hope all of you in the area are doing ok. this is also reminding me of matty and martine being in the center of the london riots a while back.

the only positive result that i see coming from the situation is that people from across the spectrum will probably come together to help each other out and fix the wreckage.

it's nice seeing some of you posting up here. it lets the rest of us know you still have power and are safe. i hope it stays that way.

necrobutcher - 11-1-2012 at 09:07 PM

I just got power back, almost exactly 3 days after it went out.

Has anyone heard from Paul Bearer?

JawnDiablo - 11-1-2012 at 09:52 PM

Paul seems fine from his postings on FB

MattyA - 11-1-2012 at 10:38 PM

Glad to know everyone is all right, man this storm did some damage!
