Bill Hicks

Watched a documentary on him this morning called "American - The Bill Hicks Story." I highly recommend it if you're a fan of his as it gave a lot of insight into who he was. I really liked it.

Bill Hicks is dead yet fucking Carrot Top lives. The world is an unfair place.

Hicks was one of the all time greats, definitely. The only problem is, a whole generation of comics decided they were going to emulate him, but forgot about the being funny part. I can't tell you how many times I had to dig out of a hole created by some shithead in all black who invariably blamed his laugh-free set on the audience "not wanting to hear the truth." No jackass, it's because you didn't have any punchlines.

I never met the man, but I know a lot of guys who worked with him years ago. They said he was a decent guy when he was sober.

I used to love Denis Leary's stand up routine, but then somebody told me I should listen to Bill Hicks to hear the same material done right. I was really amazed at how much material Leary lifted directly from Hicks' act. After hearing Hicks I never had any interest in listening to Leary again.
