Yep.
I love the record.

But the 2 new songs I heard from the new record coming this year sucked.

BDx13 - 2-4-2013 at 11:28 PM

i thought this was a metal band. what am i missing here?

some of the music is interesting, i guess more doom than metal, but these vocals... i expected something MUCH heavier based on the pics i saw. this is like pop-black-metal.

Don't really understand the hype behind the band.

BKT.

They're not really my thing but they did blow me away when I saw them a few years ago.

JawnDiablo - 2-5-2013 at 10:22 AM

I had a friend mention them recently, but I skipped it on the neame alone.......
He's like, yeah, people keep talking about them so I downloaded them on Itunes.
I'm like, well whats the deal?
He's like, well they sing about satan a lot apparently......

clevohardcore - 2-5-2013 at 01:13 PM

Sounds like these dudes traveled back in time to the 70's and ate all the Quaaludes...Zzzzzzzz.

clevohardcore - 2-6-2013 at 01:11 AM

I came back to this thread just to reiterate how much that shit sucked.

Discipline - 2-6-2013 at 11:05 AM

Horrible

BDx13 - 2-6-2013 at 12:20 PM

mike and matty, help me understand this. seriously. are they considered a metal band? i mean, they're covered on metal news sites, they look metal as fuck, but there ain't nuthin metal about that sound. i was TOTALLY ready for some cradle of filth sounding shit there and i did NOT get it. HA!

Jason the Magnificent - 2-6-2013 at 01:57 PM

There's a lot of different variations of metal. This leans more towards some poppy 70's cult rock type shit, but it's still metal/hard rock.

It's easy to understand why this band is a hype monster. They write songs with huge hooks that are friendly to people of any genre...somewhere between King Diamond/Mercyful Fate and Turbonegro, with hugely theatrical live show that absolutely kicks ass and the music media latched onto them early further propagating the hype. They have spooky imagery...which depending on how uptight you are is either amusing at best, lame at worst. They have "mystery members"....it's pretty much a recipe for hype.

When you have bands rerecording their old albums trying to recapture glories because they couldn't write a listenable new song to save their lives...it's not hard to see why stuff like this takes off....at least its original for the most part.

Definitely not for everyone.

Well, i got into hardcore through punk, skating and indie rock so never had much knowledge of 'classic metal'.
Now despite not being a metal guy, i do like a lot of doom metal and stoner rock and what I gather from my fully qualified metal bro's is that Ghost are basically just a modern day version of Mercyful Fate.

I saw them at Roadburn fest a few years ago (annual stoner/doom/prog/weirdo metal fest in Holland) and the stage show was awesome... they had that spooky music from the orgy scene in Eyes Wide Shut as their intro tape, dry ice everywhere, all the band dressed up like cloaked druids (with faces blacked out) and the singer walked out in full corpse paint, priests outfit and carrying one of those incense dispenser things. It was a fucking sight and a half and I couldn't help get caught up in it.
I never listen to them on record but there was something undeniable about that live show.

Sure, it was cheesy as all hell but I think a hell of a lot of metal is cheesy as hell by default.

edit - Jason nailed it

Jason the Magnificent - 2-6-2013 at 02:04 PM

In Solitude is a band a little more of a Mercyful Fate clone than Ghost...but the comparisons are undeniable
