This is Hardcore

No April Fool’s joke here, folks! This is the beginning of the 8th installment of This Is Hardcore Fest: four days where we turn the biggest rock venue in Philadelphia into the nation’s biggest hardcore show. After expanding into our new venue, it was time to invite back some old friends of the fest and bring in some new names and faces to continue to raise the bar that has been set each year by TIH.

GWAR has held off for seven years but has since decided it’s time to come to TIH and destroy, enslave or devour most of the hardcore scene.

Kid Dynamite returns to TIH after playing their first TIH set back in 2010. This time around, they will be playing their entire debut self-titled LP from Jade Tree along with a special mini set of covers.

Modern Life is War has returned and TIH 2013 will be their first show back, with a new record coming out on Deathwish later this year.

Boston-bred but Philly’s favorite, Panic, are returning – and TIH will be nothing short of the perfect homecoming.

Earlier this year, Trapped Under Ice announced that TIH2013 will be their last performance before going on a long hiatus, while 7 Seconds makes their first appearance at TIH and on the east coast in some time.

After seven years and a growing amount of support for TIH worldwide, it was time that we put some overseas bands on the roster to return the love and support given to our friends from Asia and Australia. Relentless from Sydney, Australia have toured with everyone from Terror to Trapped Under Ice and will be in the states with Rotting Out this summer. Things We Say is a newer positive hc band from Seoul, South Korea who shares members of The Geeks. TWS will be out in the US for a short tour in the Northeast and parts of Canada with REACT’s Caught In A Crowd, ending at TIH2013. Black Train Jack, having previously announced a performance at this year’s BNB Bowl, will make their home-away-from-home return to Philly, while Delaware’s boysetsfire make their TIH debut along with Tragedy, who have been requested by TIH loyal fans for years. We can’t forget that some of the big names from last year’s fest were Nails, who will again make an exclusive appearance along with NYHC legends Killing Time as well as Negative Approach, all of which had sets that are still being heralded as the best of TIH 2012.

This is only the first installment of bands and an early chance to pick up Festival and Weekend passes..

We have plenty more on the bill across all four days and will be releasing more names in May along with single day tickets.

In addition to 50 bands, we will have a new update on our smartphone app, to include Android phones. If you have an IPhone, you can download for the app for free now under the name “This Is Hardcore.” You can also expect more info on food trucks, extra shows and more when we have our full announcement next month…
Thank you very much for the support, and we can’t wait to let you in on the rest of TIH 2013!

Gwar at TIHC? That's kind of fucking awesome.

Six66Mike - 4-2-2013 at 01:02 AM

Nothing really exciting here for me except finding out Trapped Under Ice are calling it quits haha. I haven't heard Relentless in at least 3 years so I have no idea what they sound like. Boysetsfire might be cool though, After The Eulogy was a wicked album.

No jaw droppers yet but an alright start.

XHonusWagnerX - 4-2-2013 at 07:46 AM

I think its amazing that Negative Approach playing has become common place again...

Discipline - 5-3-2013 at 06:51 PM

I can't believe how few bands I like are playing. Sunday is the only day I would show up.

sentrand - 5-3-2013 at 10:04 PM

Wish I Were Closer!

DaveMoral - 5-6-2013 at 09:33 PM

I suspect Saturday is going to be Judge.

BDx13 - 5-20-2013 at 02:20 PM

Full lineup, including four Thorp bands...and Judge.

JawnDiablo - 5-20-2013 at 02:32 PM

an impressive array of hardcore.....

DaveMoral - 5-20-2013 at 02:50 PM

I'm pretty much only interested in Saturday.

ShawnRefuse - 5-20-2013 at 02:59 PM

Saturday/Sunday but I really have a hard time in festival crowds.

XHonusWagnerX - 5-20-2013 at 03:18 PM

I might go on Sunday with Slapshot, BUT I would REALLY like to see JUDGE again plus 7 Seconds, H2O & Killing Time

DaveMoral - 5-20-2013 at 03:43 PM

When do tix go on sale?

Discipline - 5-20-2013 at 03:56 PM

Fuck. They really added some great bands. If I had the cash I'd fly in for the Saturday and Sunday shows.

When did Kill Your Idols start playing again?

JawnDiablo - 5-20-2013 at 03:59 PM

I hear beer is half priced during Judge.....

random - 5-20-2013 at 05:20 PM

Dave, tickets are already on sale. Check the TIH website.

No one day passes?

random - 5-20-2013 at 07:59 PM

One day passes are up. Go to http://www.thisishardcorefest.com and look on the left side of the screen for all the ticket options.

Not sure if this will work or not, but here's the link to the Ticketmaster page to get a Saturday-only ticket: http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/02004AA1EE34B3AF

And here's (most of?) the Judge set from Saturday at BnB Bowl, which I'm watching now. The music is great, but Mike isn't sounding so good...

sentrand - 5-20-2013 at 08:01 PM

SS76 - 8-12-2013 at 08:24 AM

DaveMoral - 8-12-2013 at 12:36 PM

I would argue Judge was tighter and Mike had more wind than at BNB.

MikeFromInhuman - 8-12-2013 at 02:38 PM

I was there Sat and Sun.
WOW.
I loved this damn Fest.

But Judge was better in NYC, for sure.
Slapshot was OUT OF CONTROL AWESOME!
More awesomeness - All Out War, Killing Time, Nails, Ringworm, Sick Of It All, Negative Approach.

SS76 - 8-13-2013 at 08:18 AM

Jason the Magnificent - 8-13-2013 at 11:45 AM

Of all the songs...they play the most nauseatingly campy one...

BDx13 - 8-15-2013 at 11:52 PM

JawnDiablo - 8-16-2013 at 06:10 AM

I never ended up going Sunday.
Started a bout with Migraines that lasted most of this week.

wondering how much that Hate5six guy was able to capture on film.......

Now I am going to pull out my Ramallah disc for the first time in a long time.

BDx13 - 8-16-2013 at 08:37 AM

sunny filmed everything. multicam. and len from my turn to win and bottomfeeder got soundboard audio. should be killer. see last year's clips for example.

JawnDiablo - 8-16-2013 at 11:21 AM

did Joe used to post on here ever?

CR83 - 8-16-2013 at 11:13 PM

Are they putting out a DVD of the event? Man I hope so.

JawnDiablo - 8-17-2013 at 08:28 AM

My buddy Volpe's fat head keeps appearing in all of the Sunday shots.....

BDx13 - 8-17-2013 at 11:44 PM

@Jawn - yes, a long time ago.

@CR83 - no, it will all be free online

Six66Mike - 8-18-2013 at 09:04 PM

hate5six didn't get Gwar video, every other band though should be online when he's done. Gwar wouldn't sign the release to be recorded apparently, they weren't into it.

I gotta download the TIH documentary on Vimeo but I'm worried a 4 hour HD file is under 800MB, the quality must suck. Has anyone grabbed it? It's on the hate5six channel there.

Well I feel like an idiot now. I went to watch the 4 hour documentary, after 30 seconds I realized it wasn't gonna happen. Skipped ahead to an hour, basically rick rolled. I was looking forward to it too.

Six66Mike - 9-20-2013 at 09:08 PM

Didn't like the vocals in the Ramallah set, got even worse when Colin got on stage. Music was great, the vocals just lacked passion/energy or something, it didn't have that recorded oomph.

yeah i agree, and maybe it sounded different there live, but on the recordings the lyrics are so angry and intense. but this seems mellow and like mailing it in vocally. I'm sure part of it is just knocking of the rust but its not what I would of expected and still would have liked to see it live

BDx13 - 9-20-2013 at 09:43 PM

here's the ramallah set. discuss.

You aren't alone.

Six66Mike - 9-21-2013 at 11:32 PM

hahaha awesome

SS76 - 9-25-2013 at 09:50 AM

I thought that whole Ramallah set was great with one exception. Having Colin sing on Kill A Celebrity ruined the whole song. Video made me feel like I was there and the sound was way better than average. Great job hate5six!

Six66Mike - 9-25-2013 at 09:11 PM

Yeah the guest vocals were definitely the low point but there wasn't a lot of high points at all when it came to the vocals.

Curious to find out what the Blacklisted set list was, if they didn't do any older stuff I'll just skip it.

SS76 - 9-25-2013 at 09:34 PM

Rob looks out of place without a guitar.

CR83 - 9-26-2013 at 10:19 PM

Just watched the Ramallah set. Anyone else notice the place go fucking ape shit the second they clue in on a B4B song? I'm telling you, people are very hungry for a live B4B set especially with Rob. There is just something about that music man. Just sets it off.

Whatever happened to the album they recorded before things fell apart finally?

random - 9-26-2013 at 10:31 PM

From what Mark has said before, Falzano updates all of Rob's pages. The discography on his site lists some anticipated upcoming releases: http://www.robertfalzano.com/index.php/discography.

Mark said long ago that the S&S EP was done and and ready to go but held back until the BFB stuff could be released.

Six66Mike - 9-27-2013 at 08:22 AM

All I wanna hear right now is that new EP, then Rob can do a new Ramallah album & consider re-doing BFB vocals or just letting that die & never being heard again.

I finally got around to watching this last night around 1:30 AM.
I enjoyed it.
Man, filming shows really has come a long way hasn't it?
Rob looks healthy, and seems to be into what he is doing here.

He seems a little snarky with his vocal approach at times but I get it.

They should have never let that Colin guy join in.

I had always considered Ramallah to be a studio band , and was happy to see them going a few songs that I didn't think would make it into a live set, definitely ones that didn't fit the vibe of TIH, or did they?

I am anxious to see what kind of recordings they produce in the future, and I think we will all be pleasantly surprised.
