2000 Tons of TNT Cancelled

necrobutcher - 6-5-2013 at 08:44 PM

Just saw this on the Brass City Boss Sounds Facebook:

"2000 Tons of TNT 2013 is canceled. Refunds for vendors and 4 day passes will be processed before July 1st. Please be patient during this process. There are a few shows in the works that will be announced by the end of the month. They will be held in CT over Labor Day Weekend.
If your email does not get answered immediately, please forgive us. We are currently dealing with a high volume of messages. We thank you for your patience, support and understanding.
BCBS"

shit and i thought i was gonna actually be able to go this year

MattyA - 6-5-2013 at 09:20 PM

Sucks, wanted to go to it to. Same old stupid bullshit.

Johnny_Whistle - 6-5-2013 at 09:20 PM

So, can someone fill me in on exactly what happened? I've only gotten snippets of info here from reactionary posts on Facebook.

Glad I didn't bother seriously looking at plane tickets yet.

I'm surprised. I was looking around last night and noticed something about Offensive Weapon getting dropped because of complaints from one or two bigger European bands. Not the first time they've had "controversy." I remember some bullshit about Condemned 84 playing, so they ended up getting "dropped" from the festival only to play at the, ahem, unrelated pre-show.

But I am seriously surprised that the whole thing got canceled. I feel really bad for the organizers, since they must be out of quite a bit as a result.

MattyA - 6-5-2013 at 10:00 PM

From what I get, one of the bands didn't want Offensive weapon to play because of there views. They dropped off so they wouldn't ruin the whole festival, then people started blaming Perkele and Booze &Glory saying it was them. Perkele dropped off because of threats to them when they came over. That was last week, not sure what else happened to caused them them to cancel the whole fest. I am guessing it stems from that.

hogwash i tell ya, hogwash.

Oi....

Where the music is secondary to grown men pretending they care about politics all while having an extensive collection of Skrewdriver rarities.

I wish that statement wasn't the full and complete truth 99.9% of the time. Everyone loses out.

Johnny_Whistle - 6-6-2013 at 03:46 PM

I know so little about the current Oi scene, admittedly, but it's kind of hard to figure out sometimes who's telling the truth about whom. I don't know anything about Offensive Weapon.

There was a similar controversy a year or two ago in Providence when a bunch of folks got all up in arms about a band that was booked on an Oi show. They may or may not have been Nazis, but when all of your song lyrics basically boil down to "I want to beat the shit out of everyone who likes things I don't like," you're really not making much of a case for yourself.

I also find the crucified skinhead meme a bit silly.

That said, I have a lot of skinhead friends, and I like a lot of the music and some of the style. I think it's too bad that Pete felt he needed to cancel the whole thing. Hopefully some of those bands will get booked on other showsin the area. I was really hoping to see Poison Idea.

Six66Mike - 6-6-2013 at 10:53 PM

Isn't that the one Ramallah was playing? Screw cancelling it, just book a Ramallah show with half a dozen other bands.

BDx13 - 6-7-2013 at 12:36 AM

in the original post, he mentioned trying to line up a few one-off shows.

Six66Mike - 6-7-2013 at 02:06 AM

Good point :P I noticed that first time I read it but forgot about it when I was posting.

necrobutcher - 6-12-2013 at 11:07 PM

Now Ramallah is playing Friday night of This Is Hardcore. I don't think that weekend lineup can get any more fucking nuts.

ChadBeantown - 6-13-2013 at 10:12 AM

The Trouble are still playing the Webster Theater on Sept. 1st!!

barc0debaby - 6-13-2013 at 04:29 PM

Happened to Sound and Fury as well, a week after they announced all the bands.

BDx13 - 6-13-2013 at 04:47 PM

I heard that it happened, but didn't read into it - why did S&F get cancelled?

IT’S OVER. WE ARE SORRY TO BRING YOU THIS UNFORTUNATE NEWS BUT THE 2013 EDITION OF THE SOUND AND FURY FESTIVAL IS CANCELLED. WE APOLOGIZE TO EVERYONE FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS FOR HAVING TO DO THIS, BUT IT WAS UNAVOIDABLE. IN ORDER TO QUELL SPECULATION, YOU WILL HEAR THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH FROM US. DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES AND THE MASSIVE FINANCIAL RISK IT TAKES TO RUN A FESTIVAL, WE HAVE TO CANCEL THIS YEAR. WE ARE JUST TWO PEOPLE, RUNNING A FESTIVAL THAT BRINGS IN OVER 60 BANDS AND 1,800 KIDS TO SANTA BARBARA EVERY YEAR. THE AMOUNT OF LOGISTICS AND HEADACHES THIS ENCOMPASSES ONE CAN ONLY IMAGINE, NEEDLESS TO SAY FROM MARCH TO JULY OUR LIVES DON’T FEEL OUR OWN. THIS YEAR, WE PUT TOGETHER WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS AN AMAZING LINEUP WITH AMAZING SPONSORS THAT ALL SPREAD THE WORD OF THE FESTIVAL FAR AND WIDE. WE AS ORGANIZERS HAVE TO WEIGH THE PRO’S AND CON’S OF DOING A FESTIVAL AND NOT LOSING TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN THE PROCESS. PLAIN AND SIMPLE, WE COULDN’T TAKE THAT RISK THIS YEAR. TO ALL OF THE BANDS, SPONSORS, FRIENDS, CO-WORKERS AND ATTENDEES, WE ARE VERY SORRY. TICKETS WILL BE FULLY REFUNDED AT THE POINT OF PURCHASE (NO SLEEP RECORDS) AND SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY WEEKS END. IF YOU BOUGHT A TICKET, YOU WILL GET YOUR REFUND BUT BE PATIENT AS WE ARE SORTING OUT THE BEST WAY TO GET THAT TO YOU.

barc0debaby - 6-14-2013 at 01:04 PM

Was a real bummer. While Southern California has a pretty active scene, we don't seem to get many big names. Sound and Fury guaranteed you could see a few bands that otherwise would never be in the area, i.e. Wisdom In Chains. There are only so many times you can see Terror or watch a bunch of 50 year old men in play in their Nardcore band.

Nice!! Just looked at some of the other shows on the site, are they still happening? That Poison Idea/Zero Boys show looks awesome!

ShawnRefuse - 6-28-2013 at 05:12 PM

I saw that they are calling it 20 tons of tnt now. A scaled back version. So yes John, they are.
