Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

What's the farthest you've gone for a show?

Discipline - 7-1-2013 at 02:02 PM

I was thinking about this earlier. I didn't count shows that just happened to be where I was going to for other reasons. In Canada I've driven to Montreal and Ottawa which are both a good 5-6 hour drive if traffic isn't bad. I've driven to Buffalo which isn't that far from home. I've also driven to Detroit and NYC. I've flown to both Boston and Milwaukee for shows.

You?

DAK - 7-1-2013 at 02:52 PM

San Antonio. It's about 200 miles.

BDx13 - 7-1-2013 at 03:23 PM

Growing up in the philadelphia area, any show between NY (100 miles north) and DC (140 miles south) was an option. I've only made a couple trips up to Boston for shows, that's 300+ miles. But without a doubt, the furthest i've traveled for a music event is NY to London.

Traveled from Philadelphia to Milwaukee by bus. Friends of mine made flight plans in advance to go to the Milwaukee Metal Fest in 99. I didn't have my shit together and ended up past minute taking the greyhound there. Fortunately when I got there we found out that the Social Chaos tour was playing at the fest. Sloppy Seconds, The Business, D.R.I, Murphy's Law, One Way System and a bunch of other great bands. The bus rides were horrible but worth it.

panzerkreuzer - 7-1-2013 at 04:47 PM

normal distances to shows are about 100 miles for one way. but when it comes to something special i make it up to 300 or so miles.
the farthest show was definately the sheer terror show in boston. then i flew a few times to madrid or dublin and drove 12 hrs to prague to see slapshot.

That was the show I flew in for. Also got to see the Social Chaos tour a week or two later here in Toronto, which was awesome except some bands weren't allowed across the border.

Boston to NYC to Ireland to travel with Black 47 on tour. Stateside, I'd have to say driving up to Bangor for the DKM Shamrock 'n' Roll festival, although technically that doesn't count, since the Gobshites were on the bill. But I did watch the show when we weren't playing...

Dennis Mc - 7-1-2013 at 05:09 PM

It was so nice that it was in a smaller room. A fest within a fest. More recently My girl and I drove from Oakland to LA for The Bouncing Souls when they did all 8 albums in 4 nights. I love road trips.

XHonusWagnerX - 7-1-2013 at 05:25 PM

well if you could trips with Slapshot I've traveled from home (Rhode Island) to Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, England etc), but the furthest I've gone for a show without them is from RI to Philly to see Sheer Terror at 'This is Hardcore' but that was just as much about meeting BD, Andy and Gavin as it was about seeing ST.

MattyA - 7-1-2013 at 05:37 PM

Farthest I've gone is Hartford, all the bands I have wanted to see have come threw Boston, Worcester, and Providence. So I don't have to travel very far.

Furly - 7-1-2013 at 06:39 PM

I live 3 miles from NH in Mass.
I drove to Georgia for an oi fest.... I think it was 20 hours.
NY for a few shows.
I flew to Illinois for Provokes last show.

Mark Lind - 7-1-2013 at 06:48 PM

To play..... Atlanta for a one-off.

To see...... NYC twice.

Both times from Boston.

Furly - 7-1-2013 at 08:41 PM

Ohhhh I stalked DB and B4B one weekend... That was jersey maybe??
Also went to Jersey for a metal fest back in the day.

sentrand - 7-1-2013 at 09:39 PM

flew to cali for rev fest last year.
drove from cincy to philly for ST,about 10 hour.
drove down to Atlanta last weekend for slapshot! about 8 hours
drove to dc in 2001 for superbowl of hc, about 10 hours.

CR83 - 7-1-2013 at 10:53 PM

St. Louis to Dallas. I flew and technically was for business.

mattybar - 7-2-2013 at 05:29 AM

Flew out to New York from London for the Sheer Terror reunion/funeral weekender back in 2004

Six66Mike - 7-2-2013 at 07:01 AM

From Niagara I never really went further than Buffalo to the south, London to the west or Toronto to the North. Really no further than around 180km in any direction.

That tour had the best lineup of bands I've ever had the chance to see in one show. I'd love to see it again.

JawnDiablo - 7-2-2013 at 12:01 PM

CBGB 2x.
1 for the Sheer Terror "Funeral" in 2004.
1 for Joe Coffee I think the year before that. I had hooked a friend up with Ray to do their T Shirts.

Then in 98 for the Sheer Terror goodbyes show at Coney Island High, for which I drank far too much St Ides beforehand , so thank god for video footage years later to refresh my memory!

Then a few shows in and around PA when my friends band For Life was playing between 96-99 which might not have been all too far, to places like Moosk and Jim Thorpe, but riding in a car with those guys and my bud Volpe made it seem like an eternity. Those guys farted a lot.

Murk - 7-2-2013 at 09:46 PM

England 2000 & NYC 2010, same band

morgan - 7-3-2013 at 07:57 AM

the furthest I've driven for a show was probably about 250 miles.

Jason the Magnificent - 7-3-2013 at 08:03 AM

950mi Chicago to Framingham, MA for one of the back to school jams to see slapshot/stars and stripes and blood for blood.

Drove straight through, with piss breaks and food think it took us 16 hrs.

Spent the whole day in a Chinese restaurant bar across the street drinking scorpion bowls, maybe saw 5 minutes of each of those three bands. Class.

ShawnRefuse - 7-3-2013 at 10:05 AM

Amsterdam to see Sick Of It All with Roland. :)

Ah I forgot.
Newark to see Suffocation on a chartered school bus.
Newark is a great little city.............not

BDx13 - 7-3-2013 at 04:41 PM

definitely not.

random - 7-3-2013 at 07:00 PM

if you ignore the cross-atlantic flight that started the whole thing off, probably nyc to vegas for punk rock bowling last year.

and beer olympics in atlanta were only ever a few hours away, but other people brought them up... those weekends were always a blast.

I went to a show at the Pipeline in Newark, must have been around 1996. People at the show seemed genuinely stunned that two English guys had gone there. I asked some older guy how bad an area it was really was and he just laughed and said "Walk two blocks that way, and you WILL get robbed. Walk two blocks the other day and you'll probably get shot before you get robbed."

wow this is pretty funny because we had almost the same experience at that place, however, my friend and I were 16 and 18 at the time and none too wise of urban dangers. we were on a bus full of South Philly Metal nerds chartered by this band Insatanity. We were the only ones who wanted to drink so we ventured off to find beer. We walked a few blocks and found some big dude on the corner, clearly selling bags, and asked him to get us 6 packs from the bar. he clearly thought we were nuts, we were just dumb. got our beer, sat on the railroad tracks near the venue, and ran into the one other white guy in the area at the moment, who tried to sell us hookers for the bands, and also gave the 2 block warning you got.

years ago I made a delivery on a job to a hospital in Newark and some crack heads trued to rob the truck.

Never been back since.

Maine to New Jersey for Mr Bungle. Well worth it
