Carcass - Surgical Steel

Jason the Magnificent - 8-3-2013 at 11:43 AM

I have returned from an unintentional posting hiatus to inform you of one thing.

Carcass - Surgical Steel is way better than it has any right to be.

Top 10 "comeback" albums ever.

panzerkreuzer - 8-3-2013 at 11:52 AM

yes, itīs a legitime follow up to heartwork.

Discipline - 8-3-2013 at 12:27 PM

I'll have to check it out. I wanted to hear what people think beforehand, that way if it sucked it wouldn't lessen my opinion of them.

MikeFromInhuman - 8-3-2013 at 01:49 PM

I have it and I love it!

But, after a few listens, it is really WAY more brutal than "Heartwork"....so it kinda sounds like a record that would have come out after "Necroticism.." in a way. The vocals are SICK and the new drummer is a beast.
One slight complaint - Bill Steer really only does back ups on this, not full vocals on any songs or parts like we were lead to believe. Oh well.

I must say Bill Steer's guitar work is OUT OF THIS FUCKING WORLD!
He can probably replace any guitarist in any band, in any type of music....for real.

JawnDiablo - 8-3-2013 at 02:10 PM

this is the first offering I have really enjoyed since the Necroticism record.
that one was a masterpiece and this one is right up there with it.

anybody have the peel sessions from 1990?
that shit is rough and brutal.

DAK - 8-3-2013 at 06:17 PM

good stuff

lifeisabitch - 8-4-2013 at 12:26 AM

haven't gotten it yet, but I was really unhappy with heartwork when it came out, it has grown on me, but necroticism is my favorite grind/death record of all time...

I cam not wait to hear this

JawnDiablo - 8-4-2013 at 06:51 AM

I was thinking The Sword with the Intro and then it's like, yeah there it is.....

JawnDiablo - 8-4-2013 at 06:36 PM

THIS THING IS A FUCKING GUITAR BONER MAN

Jason the Magnificent - 8-5-2013 at 08:42 AM

This is probably the most consecutive times I've listened to a new album in I don't even know how long.

This makes me want to call out Bolt Thrower and be like enough with that 'Those Once Loyal' was a perfect album crap...it CAN be done.

XHonusWagnerX - 8-5-2013 at 02:18 PM

where is everyone hearing this album?!

Jason the Magnificent - 8-5-2013 at 03:25 PM

Leaked mid last week. Grabbed mine off soulseek.

Wasn't about to wait till late Sept for my vinyl to come.

BKT - 8-6-2013 at 01:09 PM

That album is madness and destroys Heartwork in my opinion. I like Heartwork, but this album is totally on par with Necro and sounds like the follow up that never was to that album.

These guys are so on point it's actually ridiculous.

BKT.

XHonusWagnerX - 8-6-2013 at 01:17 PM

can anyone hook me up?

BDx13 - 8-9-2013 at 11:34 AM

i dug carcass, but not as much as i did entombed or bolt thrower.

didn't find a stream, but here's a track:

JawnDiablo - 8-9-2013 at 11:46 AM

I remember seeing them in 92 with ND, Cathedral and Brutal Truth

Agreed. I always loved the way the two different vocal styles complimented each other as it just increased the intensity on some songs, especially on the pure genius that is the Necroticism album.

JawnDiablo - 8-9-2013 at 01:03 PM

back in the day in Napalm Death didn't Mick Harris do the high vocals?
or am I remembering incorrectly?

Jason the Magnificent - 8-9-2013 at 02:06 PM

I know Mitch Harris the guitar player does, Mick was the old drummer.

JawnDiablo - 8-10-2013 at 07:24 AM

right.
I swear he did some though, on recordings.

SS76 - 8-16-2013 at 03:34 PM

Can't get the Master Butcher's Apron out of my head. Great album.

Jason the Magnificent - 8-21-2013 at 08:20 AM

So I took a break for a week from this to get perspective...listened to it today at the gym...it's still amazing. Can't wait for the Chicago show.
