Sepultura Chaos AD

A perfect record for it's time.
Hell, it still is.

Can't believe it is nearly 20 years old.

One of the best shows I had ever seen was them on that tour with Fudge Tunnel at the troc in Philly.

I saw them on that tour. They also had Clutch and Fear Factory with them when they hit Toronto. A great fucking show.

great cover art too.

saw the clutch, fear factory leg, in KC one of my favorite shows ever and I still have the record in constant rotation

Not a popular opinion on this at all I realize but..
I have gone from LOVING this record, to thinking it ....well....killed SEPULTURA.
It def. started the killing of SEP, that's for sure.
ROOTS finally did them in.

CHAOS AD has great songs for sure, but coming from ARISE and BENEATH before that, it is my #3.
It lacks the brutality and dark vibe of the the 2 prior records and well, some of it sucks too much HC dick for me.

So yeah, I know some may think I am nuts, but I was there when SEP came to the USA and NYC in 1989 and watched "the next Slayer" get far too trendy and then go Nu Metal and it actually broke my heart.

BDx13 - 8-16-2013 at 08:39 AM

ShawnRefuse - 8-16-2013 at 09:37 AM

There is one song that was good enough to steal the name. ;)

Amazing show, but one sour note for me. For whatever reason, that show had the highest prices for merch I've ever seen. I almost always buy shirts at shows, but not that night.

As for the death of Sepultura, I have to say it was Roots. What a fucking train wreck. Giant case of the drizzling shits.

JawnDiablo - 8-16-2013 at 11:19 AM

Yeah with Roots, they dropped their guitar tuning to Korn levels and he started over doing it with guests participating and too much experimenting.............. it was headed to the pooper .
and then after that Max departed....

I did like a few songs though.

Max yelling mothafuckah! like he was in biohazard......not so cool.

Roots is dogshit. And most Soulfly is dogshit for the same reasons. There are a few Soulfly records that are decent though.

JawnDiablo - 8-16-2013 at 07:55 PM

anyway, Chaos AD rules.

CR83 - 8-16-2013 at 11:09 PM

The live version of Chaos AD from "Welcome To Hell" is so strong. Chaos AD is a great album. It certainly paced the to Roots which killed them. I have only seen Sepultura without Max. I then saw Soulfy. They were great live. Their albums never grabbed me.

I listen to Sepultura weekly, almost daily since 92.

JawnDiablo - 8-17-2013 at 08:27 AM

Seen them a few times.
Once at the empire on the beneath the remains tour
once on the arise tour with Sacred Reich, Napalm Death and Sick of it all
On the Chaos AD tour with Fudge Tunnel
and later on the roots tour with Ozzy, which wasn't so great.

the first 3 times blew my mind.

if he got back together with Andreas and Igor to tour playing only old stuff, I would sell my wife to go.
