Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Collecting stuff

Voodoobillyman - 8-22-2005 at 04:45 PM

Alright, so I've noticed a couple of people on this board are pack rats like myself and I just wanted to know what kinds of treasures they are holding. I found a spectacular deal on the Nightmare On Elm Street sticker album and stickers.........unfortunately I had to go into Hot Topic to get them, but they were dumping the album off at 99 cents apiece, you cant beat it, and the stickers (6 to a pack) at 50 cents. I went nuts, I also found the old Crypt Keeper in the electric chair that lights up and laughs on Ebay and somehow squeeked out with a win, I feel good about myself now:) What kinds of gems have you encountered lately and what price (blood, first born etc...) did you pay?

hollymaconmovies - 8-22-2005 at 06:29 PM

Lately, all I want are records. Lots and lots of records. They sound like shit, and no one wants to buy them used (MINT CONDITION, NEVER PLAYED...um, why did you buy them then?), but I buy them and play them and love them. Goodwill, online, anywhere I can get my grubby little paws on vinyl cheap. I'm not collecting for sport, but for love of records.

i used to pour money into old skateboards and records, and my wife collects pez dispensers and edward gorey books and illustrations. these days, we collect money. save, save, save. i was totally stoked today because i found out my wife is now fully vested in her company's 401k matching contributions. such a nerd.

GabeTexasGAMC - 8-23-2005 at 03:00 AM

i collect memories, because im too poor to buy anything.

I rememeber that one time i got drunk with some awesome tequilla.

I have a couple of unused pieces of FREEZE LP artwork. There on glossy paper and were never folded up for use with the LPs. Cliff said that they were really rare because they were limited to begin with plus these are un-used and un-numbered. Anyway.... The point to all this is that its Edward Gorey artwork and if your wife would be into it you can have one.

Voodoobillyman - 8-23-2005 at 07:32 AM

I also like to find really obscure movies, mostly horror, but anything interesting is cool. I found one called "Six String Samurai" It came out in the late nineties, and it looks real good, but I have'nt gotten it in the mail yet. Sometimes I think I pack rat a little too much, bhut I will only start to worry for real if I pull a Howard Hughes and begin to collect bodily fluids.

XHonusWagnerX - 8-23-2005 at 07:42 AM

Oh yeah... I collect way to much crap! The thing is that I never sell anything even after Ive lost interest in it so I still have all the collections that I started from years and years ago.

Past collections I still have:

Stamps
Coins
Baseball Cards
Matchbox Cars
Star Wars crap
Action Figures (stuff I dont care about anymore)
Guitars & Bass'

Collections I still add to:

Records (only special stuff)
Action Figures (not as much as I used to)
Devils Rejects/House of 1000 Corpses stuff
Serial Killer stuff
T-Shirts
Anything I can get of a few specific bands
I recently got into horror movie stuff

One of the coolest things Ive bought was actually the first thing I ever bought on Ebay. Its a signed "self portrait" of Richard Ramirez 'The Nightstalker'. I was never sorry I bought that.

Most expensive thing I bought to add to a collection was my Chung King record.

I also have a pinball machine and wish I could collect more of those, but they are expensive and I definitly dont have the space.

I totally want to downsize, but everytime I try to throw something out for some reason I cant let myself do it! Im a HUGE packrat and sometimes it sucks!

Dave - 8-23-2005 at 07:55 AM

Comics and records, would have to be my 'collections' i guess.
But lately it's been more comics than the records.

oh yeah and DVD's, i have a movie obcession.
(thank god for DVD-R's)

so these are basically the printed album jackets, but not folded up or signed? interesting! i'd definitely like to add one of those to the collection, thanks for the offer. shortly after that freeze album was released, i bought number "A" off of cliff.

I think Im explaining it right, but in any case its the center picture of these 3 (there all one image so I couldnt post just the record cover)

Voodoobillyman - 8-23-2005 at 04:46 PM

Dave, you collect comics, who's your favorite artist, I am partial to Sam Kieth myself, he still does the best Wolverine bar none I have ever seen, I use to spend alot of time sharpening my skills by copying pictures of his, he is still one of my favorite all time artists. I really like Glenn Barr too, but I prefer his paintings to his comic work.

Dave - 8-24-2005 at 07:01 AM

yeah i'm a comic geek, i get 5-6 books a week.
my favorite comic artist would have to be Mike Allred(Madman, Atomics, X-Force/X-statix, Feeders, etc.)

Discipline - 8-24-2005 at 07:45 AM

I mostly just buy cd's and dvd's. I have about 750 cd's, plus assorted tapes and vinyl, and I have about 300-350 dvd's.

I also collect some of the McFarlane toys. I like the Movie Maniacs series, as well I also have the Twisted Land Of Oz series of figures, and the Famous Historical Killers figures. Cool shit.

hollymaconmovies - 8-24-2005 at 11:16 AM

I was just given a huge tupperware bin full of vinyl someone was getting rid of! Hells yeah.

moron - 8-24-2005 at 11:23 AM

cds and records. I dont really have room for them anymore though. I used to collect rocks when I was younger, and for a short time I was into baseball cards. Not anymore though. The rocks and baseball cards are still at my mother's house. Im sure she'll make me take them with me one day when I go to visit her. I'll just drop them off at my dad's house though.

Voodoobillyman - 8-24-2005 at 12:17 PM

McFarlane toys is a definite, I have seen some of the best stuff come from them. I started collecting those when a friend got me the Leatherface from series one for my birthday. After that I went hog wild!!!!! I have bookcases full of them, and I am such a geek that I buy two of the ones I really like, one to open and display, the other to keep in the package. I also really like Mezco toys, if you havent seen them yet Discipline, check them out for sure, they are right up there with McFarlane, more cartooney, but cool nonetheless.

Voodoobillyman - 8-24-2005 at 12:18 PM

By the way......Discipline, is that after the band from Holland or wherever, if so..I have several of their CDs and I must say, very good choice in OI.

BDx13 - 8-24-2005 at 01:00 PM

a good friend of mice works at mezco, and has passed along a few rejected stewey samples from china. we also play on the mezco roaches softball team. out jersey is sick!

tireironsaint - 8-24-2005 at 01:15 PM

Damn Duane, that's a hook-up I'd LOVE to have. I've got a very few Mezco toys, but I fuckin' love 'em. I also collect toys, books, posters and anything else based on the classic monsters, Frankenstein and his Bride are my favorites, but also werewolves, vampires, mummies and the like.

RomanticViolence - 8-24-2005 at 01:30 PM

Before my house caught fire i used to collect:

alot of the old misfits stuff.

I also liked to collect flyers, stickers and "Halloween Stuff"- Skulls & monsters.

I saved all of my old H.R. Giger calenders too.

Yeah, I love Discipline so it became my screen name here and a few other places.

thedog - 8-24-2005 at 04:09 PM

MEZCO is doing the toys for The WARRIORS, which are really cool looking.
They also did really cool Blues Brothers and Animal House figures.

I checked out their website. Seems they also did some pretty kickass Scarface figures.

Voodoobillyman - 8-25-2005 at 12:05 PM

I like their mini Mezz's, they have all kinds of sets from aliens to freddy, leatherface and jason, to army of darkness, even robocop. I love em, they just released the second slashers set and the detail rules.

Unbound - 8-25-2005 at 12:47 PM

I just saw the second slasher set the other day. Totally blows away the first set away. Gotta give them a big thumbs up for using the bag over the head jason too.

XHonusWagnerX - 8-25-2005 at 01:39 PM

I jsut got the 18" Captain Spaulding and Patrick Bateman from Neca and they are really cool. Pricey, but definitly cool!

Voodoobillyman - 8-25-2005 at 07:36 PM

Yeah Neca is doing some good things, i definitely dig the Capt Spaulding, but the bateman I am not so sure about, I like it, but that movie was a dissapointment, after you read the book, there is not one twisted fuck in Hollywood daring to make a movie following the book. It can be done. And yeah the Jason with the bag is classic, I will always stand by the fact that part two is still the scariest and best in that series of movies, part three a close second becuase of the hockey mask steal from Shelley after he harpoons him, I love that shit.

sippers - 8-26-2005 at 08:28 PM

stuff i collect
pushead decks
bronze marvel horror books
