Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Have you seen Greenday's "When September Ends" video?

nevermind the eyeliner and whether or not they've sold out and however many vmas this won yesterday... what do you think of this video? is it making a statement one way or another about the war, or is it just telling one individual's story? is it good that this is out there? what effect do you think it has on the mtv-watching youth of today?

That video is horrible. Not a fan of the whole mini-movie thing. The beginning was insipid, sappy and utterly intolerable, and whoever's idea it was to stop the song to let those two saps whine and argue with each other should be fired immediately. Just awful.

Now, the politics. The only thing I could guess they were attempting here was to show how the war affects family, friends and loved ones here at home, and a look into the trials of our youth as they become soldiers. Frankly, it's so sappy and melodramatic, the only people I see watching this repeatedly, or caring, are their 10-14 year old teenie bopper demographic. So as far as affect, I'd say there will be less 10-14 year old girls enlisting in the armed forces.

In my opinion, piss poor attempt at sending a relavent and important message. Total disappointment.

Exactly 100% dead on. It was like reading my own thoughts on the video.

Music videos should NOT be mini soap operas..... Speaking of which *starts new thread*

Thanks.

I love Green Day and I think their new album is phenomenal. I'm going to see them this weekend, and I'm really psyched for it.

As far as Green Day and political commentary, why shouldn't they express what they feel? Everyone should be entitled to have and express their opinions. You don't have to listen, and you don't have to agree.

gavin - 8-30-2005 at 01:35 PM

its not about if i agree with them or not
i just dont need some "rock" dick telling me anything
that includes bono, sting, green day or whoever else

it has nothing to do with their music(which i dont like but thats not the point)

its a certain kind of arrogance these bands have thinking they are so "in the know" and need to let everyone else in on what they think is right

please
i aint interested in what green day thinks about anything

I can speak from experience here, I was on a unit deployed for six months when the war broke out. We all knew it was coming but they were still playing smoke and mirrors back home. When it did come time to take care of business, we were one of the first to set in place and launch. None of those rock fuckers has any idea what it is like to stand six on six off at a 50 caliber mount in that heat while some gruff ass Chief is telling you to watch for suicide bombers and the like. Fuck them.
